That should be Canas instead of Cans. And I think the topic should be changed to the tennis world is getting interesting again!
SportsRe: Tennis Is Interesting Again! by profade1(m): 7:29am On Apr 03, 2007
She was. twice in a row. Same with cans , Federer. Though watching Canas play, I have a feeling he's still on steroids.

Anyway I am happy he clubbed Federer twice, that will show the other players that Federer is just human. And I am also happy Djokovic beat Canas, before people start feeling Canas is a cyborg or something.

The tennis world is definitely getting interesting. Now if only Blake can stop spoiling my day, and starts to win matches again!!

Lawyerchap, what can I say? Your powers of summary/incisive analysis are awesome. If I ever need a lawyer for a case I'll choose you. ( assuming you are actually a lawyer).

Anyway the fact that Lara George was left out was terrible, I hope the judges can live with themselves after that. It sort of diminishes the impact of the judges' impartiality for me.Anyway let's see how it goes.

Thanks.

Hi people,

For me an equally good way to wind down after a stressful day is to come to nairaland and read people's comments. ( Love you guys !!)

Anyway, does anyone have the names ( and if possible , pictures) of the 24 singers that moved to the next stage? it will be much appreciated.
TV/MoviesRe: Nigerian Horror Movies Are More Scary Than American Horror Movies! by profade1(m): 12:18pm On Jan 30, 2007
There are oh. The most annoying part is the make up of the ghosts. How come they usually wear bed sheets? Black, white , red; all bed sheets. and the make up, ugh!

Nigerian horror movies are not too horrific sorry.
SportsRe: For Tennis Lovers: Australian Open! by profade1(m): 11:23am On Jan 26, 2007
Haas just lost in straight sets.
SportsRe: For Tennis Lovers: Australian Open! by profade1(m): 2:50pm On Jan 25, 2007
And the winners are:

Men's final: Roger Federer

Women's final: Serena Williams ( she had better win, since the first time Sharapova really came to limelight was by beating Serena at Wimbledon ( 2, 3 years ago?). So let the situations be reversed.

And I think Nadal's injury was more shock than a$$ bites or leg tremors or whatever. Somehow you don't expect him to be comprehensively beaten like that except by federer or maybe Blake. There is still perception that While Federer might be the sole inhabitant of cloud 9 ( a class of his own); that Nadal inhabits cloud 8.2 alone. Suddenly we find Gonzalez on cloud 8.45.

What a shock for Nadal.

Meanwhile going by statistics, let's see what Federer will do to Gonzalez.
SportsRe: For Tennis Lovers: Australian Open! by profade1(m): 1:55pm On Jan 24, 2007
The funny thing is no matter how on fire a player is destroying all others en route to meeting Federer, he usually manages to douse the flames, thrashing opponents without expression and then crying at the awards ceremony. Weird, uh? cool

The guy must be part cyborg.
SportsRe: For Tennis Lovers: Australian Open! by profade1(m): 12:44pm On Jan 24, 2007
Nadal is out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SportsRe: For Tennis Lovers: Australian Open! by profade1(m): 12:01pm On Jan 24, 2007
Davidylan, that's my point exactly. Blake is better than that. But I believe he'll still redeem his image as the season progresses. Meanwhile i guess Nadal is actually on his way out.Gonzalez is reaaly hot. I need to watch this game tonite.
SportsRe: For Tennis Lovers: Australian Open! by profade1(m): 1:05pm On Jan 23, 2007
Blake's problem is psychological. Just like Federer had against Nadal earlier. And you are right Fed has found the formula against Nadal, who by the way reminds me of a bull. So much power and aggression.

And on upcoming defeats for Fed, they will surely come . Remember the season is still young.

i totally agree on sharap's case, that runaway engine shriek must stop. quite annoying.

What makes you think Hing can't silence sharap?
SportsRe: For Tennis Lovers: Australian Open! by profade1(m): 12:33pm On Jan 23, 2007
PDF, just seems like that. I like Gonzalez too. And Hingis, Acasuso and a few others. But after the way, Federer beat Blake in the finals of the season ending masters series last year, i just feel it's time for him to be on the receiving end too. And it's going to happen. He's still the best so far, but he's human and the others are fast catching up.

He's going to lose more games this year than last year but if he happens to play Nadal, then definitely I'll be supporting Federer all the way.

By the way, I don't want sharapova to win the ladies either.
SportsRe: For Tennis Lovers: Australian Open! by profade1(m): 9:47am On Jan 23, 2007
Blake's loss yesterday totally ruined my day. I did not know how much I had invested in the guy until he lost, but he'll be back. Mark my words. Serena almost did the same thing early this morning. I was rushing to go to work ( VI) and I was still stuck in front of the tv . Thank God she won.

I feel Roddick has a good chance of winning this tournament.

Francine Rivers ( the best) She wrote Scarlet thread, Redeeming love ( already mentioned), Leota's garden etc;
Tess Gerritsen ; Gravity ( wonderful book), the Surgeon, Body double
Chimaamanda Ngozi Adichie , she's Nigerian and she's good
Pat Conroy, Prince of tides

Just a few of the authors I enjoy.

Says who? If you mean they have a lot of very good chess players. then yes , i guess. but chess did not originate in russia. at olympiads it is not a given that the russian team will come first. and on any given day, there are a lot of other nationals that will give them a run for their money. take the topalovs, anands, sasikirans, negis, carlsens, adams' etc. it's a wonderful jungle out there.

cristino do u play?

GamingRe: Vladimir Kramnik: New Reunified World Chess Champion by profade1(m): 11:54am On Oct 16, 2006
I have always believed that while Topalov is a very strong super GM he's actually not the strongest. Now I know that the battle is not always to the strong etc, etc, But I always felt Kramnik had the upper hand in the match due to their contrasting styles of play. Checking out the two players' games, you will see that Topalov excels in tactical positions, he seems to have a penchant for exchange sacrifices while Kramnik does very well in technical games, strategic etc. As every chess player knows, one tends to get more of 'dry' positions than wild ones. By the way Kramnik must be congratulated for managing to neutralize Topalov.

Now I'll be rooting for one of my four favourite players to win it next year( Anand, Adams, Carlsen and Morozevich).

By the way it's nice to have a chess lover on this site. do you play online or over the board chess?

TV/MoviesRe: Sitcom Vs Soap Opera Vs TV Drama? by profade1(m): 4:12pm On Sep 25, 2006
TV dramas. That way they can follow the format of short stories. You can get a lot across in such a short time and still have an interesting story.

Soap operas are like extended heart attacks. They could be very agonising ( and annoying!). Sit coms: when they are funny, they are very good, when they are not, they are horrid.
LiteratureRe: Famous Books Of African Authors by profade1(m): 7:48am On Sep 22, 2006
I know it's been mentioned over and over, but Mariama Ba's book ' So long a letter' is exceptional.

Also the landscapes within by Ben Okri.
LiteratureRe: 'Purple Hibiscus' By Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie by profade1(m): 7:41am On Sep 22, 2006
I read purple hibiscus last year and loved it.

The prose is very descriptive and evocative, when she describes stuff, u can taste it on your tongue and she wields words to devastating effect. It's simply about a domineering father who physically abuses and batters his wife and two kids and the effect this has on the family. They all reacted in different ways, but one thing was clear, they all still loved him.

The title comes from the flowers planted in their compound at home. Nice characterization and incredible plot.

After that, try reading '26a'. Another incredible book, but with a darker subject matter.
TV/MoviesRe: Any Comic Book Fans On Nairaland? by profade1(m): 7:31am On Sep 22, 2006
