If you're pursuing one of these careers, you may want to think about changing your focus. Check out these five alternatives instead.

It's been said that if you're not growing, you're dying. Well, that seems true when it comes to careers, too. Unfortunately, in today's fast-paced, technology-driven world, sometimes it's hard to predict which jobs will be winners and which will be losers. But understanding the likely trajectory of your chosen field will be crucial to your professional success.

"People need to ensure that they're in an industry, or working to enter one, that has long-term potential and security," says Debra Wheatman, a certified professional career coach and president of Careers Done Write. She says that if you're not careful, you could find yourself putting your best earning years into a dead-end job.

Or worse: By the time you do see the light, you might be stuck. "A career change often times means you have to start over at a more junior level," says Wheatman, "If you have a family or other debt obligations, it could be really difficult. These things have to be considered."

With your professional future in mind, we combed the U.S. Department of Labor, the authority on the nation's job trends, to find five common careers that may not be so common by 2020. And while they might not be completely phased out by then, they'll likely be either on their last legs or barely staying afloat.

And yet there is a silver lining. We also identified five alternatives that the Department of Labor says have a more promising future. Read on to see if your career goals are destined for success, or headed to the unemployment line.

* Dying Career #1: Desktop Publisher

Desktop publishing was revolutionary during the printed media era, helping organizations avoid the cost and complications of using large printing presses to print everything from advertisements to magazines. Today, desktop publishers still design layouts with computer software for newspapers, books, and other printed media, says the U.S. Department of Labor, but the printing party has come to an end.

Projected decline: According to the Department of Labor, desktop publisher jobs are expected to decline by 15 percent from 2010 to 2020. That's a total of 3,300 lost jobs, which is sizable considering the profession had only 22,600 jobs in 2010.

Why it's dying: The Department says that advances in user-friendly desktop publishing software will allow other workers, such as graphic designers and copyeditors, to perform the tasks desktop publishers do now. Automation will also lead to job loss. Finally, the Department says, opportunities in desktop publishing will be stronger "for those with a degree in graphic design or a related field."

Which begs the question: Why not consider...

Alternative Career: Graphic Designer

Not only does the career of graphic designer have a better outlook for job growth, according to the Department, it also gives you the opportunity to be more creative. That's because graphic designers use computer software, and sometimes even draw by hand, to create visual concepts for logos, websites, or product illustrations.

Projected Growth: The Department projects graphic designer jobs to grow by 13 percent from 2010 to 2020, which translates to 37,300 possible new jobs.

Why it's growing: The Department says that due to the increased use of the Internet, graphic designers will be needed to create layouts and images for such things as websites, electronic publications, portable devices, and video entertainment media.

"Companies need artists to create packaging, branding, marketing/PR materials, trade show/billboard signage, online and print ...

Nollywood actress Judith Opara Mazagwu popularly known as AfroCandy has incurred the wrath of some Nigerians and her fans across the world, for producing a hard core porn movie.

There are very real sex scenes in the movie and some of the men can be seen slapping some ladies’ big fat asses and also joyously squeezing their well sized and shaped boobs.

AfroCandy, known for her explicit lifestyle, posted a link of the trailer on facebook and added the comment: “No time for Haters and no shame in my game. I do what I do, don't need your stupid opinion cos it doesn't count at the end of the day. So you either get with it or get lost, or better still, stick your foot in your mouth. Politics / Police Arrest Senator Yerima Over Comments On Radio by 2864: 4:48pm On Mar 11, 2013
http://nigerianbeacon.com

The police on Saturday arrested former Governor of Zamfara, Sen. Sani Yerima over alleged “inciting’’ comments on a live radio programme run by Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Kaduna.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Olufemi Adenaike , led policemen in six hilux vehicles to surround the radio station and arrest the senator immediately after the Hausa programme, Hannu Da Yawa, at about 12:30 p.m.
Though Mr. Yerima was allowed to drive in his car to the state Police Command Headquarter, his car was sandwitched by the police vehicles.
After over two-hour long interrogation of the senator, the police commissioner told newsmen that Mr. Yerima was not under arrest.
“The senator was not under arrest, all we did was to find out what he said that they were going to go on a peaceful demonstration. I am satisfied with what he said and he is free to go.’’
Mr. Adenaike blamed journalists for blowing the matter “out of proportion’’, saying that his concern was the peace and security of Kaduna State.
“I am highly disappointed in you journalists, in the sense that nothing is happeniing and you are blowing it out of proportion.’’
In his comment, Mr. Yerima said the police was uncomfortable with his call for a peaceful protest, “should in case we meet all the legal requiremets and INEC refuse to register APC”.
“We will mobilise people, just like what happened in Egypt, we will sit there day and night, until INEC changes its decision.”
He said that protests are part of democracy, but “I am not calling for the peaceful protest now, I am just sounding a word of caution”.
NAN reports that the radio programme had focussed on the merger of Yerima’s All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).
During the programme, Yerima had said that the new party, All Progressives Congress (APC), would meet all conditions for registration by the Independent Nationa Electoral Commission (INEC).
Responding to a question by a caller on what they would do if the party was not registered, the senator said leaders of the party, including Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, Bola Tinubu, Ibrahim Shekarau and others, would stage a peaceful protest to ensure that INEC “do the right thing.”
“We have no doubt that the party will be registered, we are going to fulfil all the constitutional and legal provisions for it to be registered, and we have no fear whatsoever that INEC would abide by the statutory conditions for the APC to be registered.’’
He said that leaders of the political parties involved in the merger would meet on March 27, to adopt the constitution and manifesto of the new party, after which it would be sent to state congresses and the national convention for ratification.
Mr. Yerima described the emergence of the APC as a good omen for the political development of the country, adding that “it is important to have two strong parties in the polity so as to give Nigerians alternative choice during election’’.
“Nigeria and its interest is paramount in this effort, and we are doing everything possibele to ensure that our efforts are not scuttled either by INEC or from within.’’
He acknowledged that already, there were efforts to scuttle the merger from within and outside the party, but said thta measures had been taken to ensure the success of the merger plan.

Politics / Nigeria's Boko Haram Terrorist Group Seeks Alliance With Al-qaeda by 2864: 3:39pm On Mar 11, 2013

A relatively unknown Islamic terrorist group in Nigeria is seeking an alliance with al-Qaeda and they're believed to be responsible for a series of bomb attacks in that African country, according to an intelligence source who spoke with the Law Enforcement Examiner.

Boko Haram (translated: "Western or non-Islamic education is a sin"wink is a controversial Nigerian Islamist group that seeks the imposition of Shariah law in the northern states of Nigeria. The group's official name is Jama'atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda'awati wal-Jihad, which in Arabic means "People Committed to the Propagation of the Prophet's Teachings and Jihad".

A radical Islamist terrorist organization, Bokom Haram in the Nigerian capital of Borno were reportedly retaliating for a military crackdown on the group's headquarters. The battle between the Nigerian soldiers and the Bokom Haram has displaced thousands of villagers fleeing the violence.

According to the intelligence source, Boko Haram was formed by Muslim cleric in 2002 in Nigeria. While claiming to be a peace loving religious group, in the Summer of 2009 the radical Islamist organization launched a rebellion in the hope they would establish Sharia law and an Islamic state the northern part of Nigeria.

In the aftermath of Boko Haram's battle with the military in July 2009, over 800 were left dead, and hundreds more were wounded.

After the battle, Boko Haram's founder and leader Mohammed Yusuf and several ranking members including Yusuf's father were killed while in police custody.

Since January 2010, surviving terrorist group members have bombed targets and conducted guerilla warfare -- or hit-and-run -- operations. In one attack a police stationhouse was bombed last month. The group claimed responsibility for the bombing attack on the police force headquarters in Abuja that occurred the previous day. Officials believed that the attack was the first suicide bombing in Nigeria's history and that it specifically targeted Police Inspector-General Hafiz Ringim, according to the LEE source.

In another bombing, Boko Haram attacked a church -- the All Christian Fellowship Church -- in north Nigeria.

The Law Enforcement Examiner's intelligence source claims that Boko Haram members had received training in Somalia.

Other reports have suggested the same thing, saying Boko Haram already has links to international terrorist organizations such as Al-Qaeda, and has the potential to link with Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb which operates in nearby regions, according to Wall Street Journal.

Politics / The Igbo People Of Nigeria-jews Of Africa? by 2864: 3:52pm On Nov 24, 2012
In a White House memo dated Tuesday, January 28, 1969 to President Nixon, former Secretary of State, Henry Kissinger describes the Igbos as “the wandering Jews of West Africa-gifted, aggressive, westernized, at best envied and resented, but mostly despised by their neighbors in the federation”(foreign relations document, volume E-5, documents on Africa 1969-1972). Kissinger's description aptly portrays the Igbos and their experience in Nigeria. Over the years, the Igbos have been the victims of numerous massacres, that they have lost count. Most of the violence directed against the Igbos have been state sponsored. One can say that the Igbos knew how to spell “state sponsored terrorism” before the rest of the world did. The state sponsored terrorism directed against the Igbos in 1966, led to the declaration of the Republic of Biafra by the Igbos and subsequent civil war. Over two million Igbos died in the civil war, primarily by starvation. One will not be wrong, if they call the Igbos the “Tutsis” of Nigeria. However, the Igbos are one of the largest and most distinctive of all African ethnic groups. Predominantly found in Southeastern Nigeria, they number about 40 million worldwide, with about 30 million in Nigeria. They constitute about 18% of Nigeria's population, with significant Igbo populations in Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon and the Ivory Coast. Igbos predominate in five states in Nigeria-Imo, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Abia. In three other states- Rivers, Lagos and Delta, they constitute almost 25% of the population. During the slave trade, Igbo slaves were known to be the most rebellious. Most of the slave rebellions in the United States, Haiti, Jamaica, Belize, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados and Guyana were led by Igbo slaves. In South Carolina, Igbo slaves were reported to have drowned themselves, rather than be kept as slaves. Today that place is called Ebo Island in commemoration of the slaves who died there. Igbos were one of the 13 African ethnic groups that provided the bulk of the slaves who were brought to the Americas. Majority of the slaves who ended up in Virginia, Alabama, Tennessee, Maryland, Arkansas, Mississippi, South and North Carolina and Georgia were Igbo........read all at

Olanifesi: Innalillahi wa innalilehi rajhul!
We are from almighty Allah, and to him is our return!

Subuhannalah!
Why must the sister convert to a khafr (disbeliver in Allah, the creator and his prophet Muhammad, including Al-Qur'an). When ALLAH (swt) says in the Qur'an that any mankind nd jinn must not die except in the state of Al-Islam! ie u must not die except as a "muslim" and any religion will never be accepted before Allah except "Al-Islam".
Can u imagine, which church will she attend? She is the one that put herself into trouble. Is there any thing like that in "ISLAM" that which musque will someone be attended? She now disblieve in Allah because of "worldly benefit", have you ever forgot that this life is "EPHEMERAL". Or have you ever forget that Allah is Al-RASHIK, "the provider". Any way, my sincere advice to you is that, you better go back to Islam, so that you will not be among those that will lost in this "duniyah" life and in the Hereafter "al- ahkirah". MAY ALLAH GUILD US FROM THE DIFFICULTY THAT WILL SPOIL OUR IMAN (FAITH).

My friend, your problem starts from when you have to use some foreign language to explain your points. Its only useful to the Arabs.

Politics / PREMIUM TIMES EXCLUSIVE: Senators Received Bribe In Dollars Before Subsidy Remov by 2864: 5:53pm On Sep 11, 2012
Source: http://abodd.com/
By Idris Akinbajo

The funds, tucked in envelopes and paid out before the Senate commenced its recess on December 20 last year, saw many Senators collecting on behalf of their colleagues.

Two weeks before the Federal Government announced the removal of fuel subsidy on Petroleum products, leading to a hike in petrol price, Nigerian Senators got an unexpected largesse, Premium Times can authoritatively report.

Between December 15 and Christmas, the President of the Senate, David Mark, distributed mint-fresh cash in U.S. dollars to each of the country's 109 Senators, multiple knowledgeable sources have told Premium Times.

There is no evidence that any Senator rejected the largesse. Even activist members who got elected on the platform of opposition parties, promising to expose corruption in parliament, quietly got and pocketed their shares.

“Each Senator got sixty thousand dollars and principal officers even got more, I think between seventy and eighty thousand dollars,” one of our sources, a top Senate official, said.

The source maintained that the dollar notes were so crisp that “one of us (a Senator) joked that the money could only have come directly from the (American) Federal Reserve Bank.”

Purpose unknown

Though the Senators were not told the source or purpose of the largesse, Premium Times learnt that the money originated from elements and departments in the federal government pushing the proposed deregulation programme of the administration.

“I think the money came from the executive,” said a top legislative aide, whose boss also benefited. “Even though it was not stated then, I believe it was meant to calm the Senate in preparation for the fuel subsidy removal.”

The funds, tucked in envelopes and paid out after the Senate commenced its recess on December 20 last year saw many Senators collecting on behalf of their colleagues.

Aides were not allowed to receive the payment on behalf of their bosses.

Not from us

It is not clear where the Senate President, whose office distributed the largesse, got such amount ($6.7miilion) in foreign currency from.

The Central Bank of Nigeria stated that it did not sell such foreign currency to the Senate.

“That is nonsense. Senate to do what with dollars?” Mohammed Abdullah, spokesman for the apex bank, said, when contacted by Premium Times.

Mr. Abdullahi explained that the only time the CBN could sell dollars to public officials is when they travel on official foreign trips and deserve estacodes, adding, “and that is after presenting all necessary approval by his ministry or institution.”

Senators deny

As expected, Senators interviewed on the illicit payments denied ever receiving such money from the Senate President.

Paul Mumeh, spokesman for Senator Mark said such allegations could only be blackmail.

“Even if you break CBN vault, you won’t get that kind of money. Such things (allegations) can only be blackmail,” he said.

“I am not aware of any such thing,” said Ita Enang, a Peoples Democratic Party Senator from Akwa-Ibom State. “I am not aware. I will go and ask him (Mr. Mark).”

Nigerian lawmakers are reputed for arbitrarily increasing their emoluments, and are among the highest paid in the world. They are notorious for lining their pockets with public funds and some of them are standing trial for corruption. Their salaries and allowances are a hugely guarded secret, even as they receive an average of N50million quarterly in “office running cost”. They are never made to account for the payments
