Squid game is a south korean survival drama TV series distributed by netflix that was released on the 17th of September, 2021. This series as now grown to become the most viewed TV series in netflix's history. As captivating and horror the movie was, there are some money lessons that can be learnt from the movie which I'll like to share. 1. Money does not care. All of the contestants in the squid Game came there for the money. Their lives in the outside world as put them in a messed up situation such that they were willing to trade their lives for money. This is why the concept of financial education and how to live a financially free life is being thought and people are being encouraged to find ways to make their money work for them rather than work for money. Money doesn't care about your situation or circumstances in life many have lost their loved ones because they don't have money to pay hospital bills 2.Currency devaluation doesn't necessarily mean underdevelopment. The TV series actually made us realise just how devalued the south korean won is compared to dollar. Official rates today shows that 1USD is equal to 1182.79 won however, the international monetary fund (IMF) in 2020 ranked south Korea as the 10th highest ranked country in nominal GDP in the world. This is because currency devaluation do have some advantages for a self-reliant country like south Korea that can produce most of its needs domestically. Their devalued currency makes it cheaper for foreigners to buy their locally made goods but makes it expensive for its citizens to buy foreign goods thereby encouraging exportation and discouraging importation. This and other factors have helped south Korea cope and amass as a country with one of the best economy in the world. 3. Money doesn't buy Happiness. In the last episode of the series, oh il-nam (the old man that looks like buhari ) made a shocking reveal that he created the game long ago in the 1980's alongside some his rich friends when they realised they couldn't find happiness in life despite all their riches. This brings to light a concept in psychology known as hedonic adaptation. As we make more money overtime in life, we get used to that change in our life and therefore we adapts such that buying the latest shoes, clothes, cars or houses doesn't give us as much joy. However, we still continue to strive for more money thinking it will make us happy and due to the competitive and comparative nature of man to maintain the same standard of living as our peers. These was the case of the host and 'VIPs' of the squid game who turned themselves into blood sacking monsters in an attempt to buy happiness. Now, don't get me wrong, making money is very important but finding a purpose or meaning in what we do is what actually makes us happy. Seoung Gi-hon, The winner of the game went home with a prize of 45.6 billion won which is around 38million dollars, so I have a question. Will you play squid game for 38million Dollars?
