Saintinoo:
Haha, ASUU saying they are still consulting is just a delay tactics to buy time and see if FG will pay them their outstanding salary before noon today, but ASUU is not serious, thesame Ngige made it possible for their salaries to be paid from March to June, why won't thesame ASUU trust him to pay the remaining four months salary.

Like you said, ASUU rather call off the strike between today and friday or strike for the next five years.
For the first time, the students won't be the only one to lose something in this strike.

tor, when FG is ready then strike will be over embarassed
Exactly
Or when ASUU is ready.
According to Ngige
ASUU has been exempted from IPPIS
The 70B has been processed
The negotiation committee has been reconstituted.
The Gazetting process has been initiated too.
What's now left is the issue of salary arrears and there's the issue of the section 43 of the Trade act dispute to contend with here.
So ASUU should make up their mind, whether to suspend the strike, carry on for five years or resign totally. It's all up to them.
The Minister even claimed they were invited to a virtual conciliatory meeting, but they turned it down.
The last i heard from ASUU, they claimed they were still consulting with members. I know this is usually a long procedure for them, perhaps theg will be done after three weeks, afterall they have to reach out to their members in Saturn and Uranus, this takes time.

That is another distorted truth from APC govt.
Majority have not being paid from July till date while some have not being paid since February (small number of them though).
ASUU should make up their mind, there's no way they will get paid fully from February to November for now.

Please don't get them any waiver for the trade dispute act. But you people are also fools for paying them 5 out of 9.
If they lose some salaries this time, they won't be keen to always run away from work at the slightest opportunity next time.

It is more of opportunity cost. I am sure you as a man would like a beautiful, submissive, independent, homely woman- who is also a virgin and good in bed. But with time, you’ll probably make-do with half of that.

Continue deceiving yourself. On this same NL we have seen people creating threads complaining of how mouth odour is ruining their dating life. You think those people do not know that they can get married within a week?

Even women can get married within a week. The question is, to who? Allow them read and learn. You are a man, you are not the one to determine the attraction. A woman would do that and a woman is telling you dirtiness is a turnoff.
I hate dirtiness too.
But you are talking as if cleanliness is the most important thing for some ladies in relationships.
Some ladies, if not most ,won't mind getting married to a dirty man if other superficial things are in place.

You need to be mindful that teaching is just 10% - 40% (my estimates based on a medium sample size) of an academic's work.
While lecturers leave the classrooms and boardrooms during strike actions, their researches still continue. So, yeah, unless you have evidence that lecturers have stopped doing research or publishing in 2020, I'd say they've been working.

Mind you, this is just to set the records straight. We aren't necessarily begging for salaries. Other than pitying my students, I wouldn't be bothered if the FG decided to sit on my salaries for one more year. Many of us are above such threats.
Do you also have any evidence that lecturers have not stopped researching and publishing?

I think that's your personal situation, and the more appropriate one should be some or few of you. Biodun has come out to cry several times that Lecturers can't go back to class on empty stomachs. Looking at the situation of things in the country, it's certain that withholding salaries will affect majority of the lecturers one way or another.

Hahaha...if you know the number of ASUU members that have moved on, you no go believe. No salary earner can run a home for 6,7,8 months without salary, yet without alternatives. Online book sales, online videos in areas of expertise, research grants, field research, NGO jobs are few survival alternatives. Not to mention that most Nigerians are street to the core...the hustle is on. Academia no be civil service...Lol
Most of them are just getting by. Nothing beats a steady income like a federal government salary, some in state universities are cashing out with admission runs.
The difference is clear, the ones that have truly moved on are the ones that have migrated.
Most are looking forward to the big payday and they even thought they've made an headway last week.

Western Union cheesy, I personally feel paying the lecturers withheld salaries will empower them to prolong the strike much further. If FG is serious about ending it, they should hold on to those salaries until ASUU is exorsted. Everybody has elastic limit.
The Government is careless in everything. Some of them still got paid till August. That method won't be effective. The salaries should have been stopped since long ago

That won't matter since it's better to fight on the side of truth.

FG promised about a week ago that all payments relating to wage would be concluded last week Friday, as a sign of commitment. ASUU on its own part, was supposed to call off the strike today as a sign of commitment., while other discussions goes on, and schools start preparations for resumption in January. But even the agreement that is one week old has been broken by the FG. Yet, with very limited info, you're here blaming ASUU and painting the FG as perfect. That is the height of bias.

I will appeal to you to change the name of your handle as your thinking, dishonest & unfair position is a dent on that name.
I'm not painting the FG prefect. But FG will continue to give ASUU several empty promises.
Imagine they did a meeting and they said they've agreed on 65B, then another meeting that it's now 70B, I already started to sense deceptions at that point cos it didn't make sense. They promised 65B and haven't released any kobo and suddenly increased it to 70B.
At this point if ASUU demand that the Government pay them via Western Union, FG will agree, but it's all a lie.

My problem with ASUU is that i want ASUU to be realistic. Most of them are partisans too and some of them helped to bring this evil government into Power, this administration does not like Education hence ASUU have to bring their demands to the barest minimum, one that is feasible with the Government for now.
Then going forward should make sure with other well meaning Nigerians not to have this kind of Government rule us again.

ASUU might decide to go on strike for 3 years and it won't affect Buhari and Adamu in anyway.
But the Students time will get wasted and the lecturers might not get paid too.

I know for sure Christmas won't be the same for families of many lecturers this Year and some of them still have children in private secondary and primary schools and have to pay school fees by January

The truth is the government doesn't want to pay but they know the consequences so they won't try it. Ngige already tried to initiate the no work no pay thing just as he did with the NMA it but he failed. ASUU is the only union in Nigeria that really knows and does unionism.
What are some of those consequences?
Ngige should negotiate with them and offer them two months salary.

It's either you are a convenient liar, or your information about the strike action embarked by ASUU is limited. The salaries of ASUU members were stopped b4 the strike was embarked on. Not the other way round.

If you consider "no work, no pay" as good policy, yet oppose "no pay, no work" then there is an integrity issue here.
You mean the salaries of the ones that rebelled and refused to register on IPPIS?

Both are good policies But you know even if you get your appointment letter today, you have to work one full month before your first pay/salary

Paying some striking lecturers till August is one of the many failures of this administration.
And Biodun will come out and cry everytime that they can't resume on empty stomach as if they've stopped salaries since April.
You only need to check the numbers of months they've spent at home since 2017 to get disgusted.
It will still be same story very soon, even if government accept UTAS. They will say UTAS has been tampered with and it has paid another professor 8k, pay us via Western Union.

you have to understand human psychology for you to get some things in this country of ours. House members get largesse from FG to buy themselves brand new car, and some are not even half the brain those lecturer are, while the real brain chase public molue. So what do you expect when they have the opportunity to get themselves a good car, while still active. Human nature is such that we migrate from less conducive environment to a better one, so their natural instinct kicked in when the opportunity arises. In advance clime, lecturer are given benefits including housing, medical, holiday expenses among others to get them motivated, but here you have to pay from your salary, and where available I can categorically tell you its never conducive expect in few cases I may not be aware of. Point is when you underpay, under motive those saddles with your children's future, and lace up your purse at their detriment, then except this kind of reaction and action.
Any lecturer eyeing the packages of a senator should resign and go and campaign in his or her constituent. Some of them can apply to NNPC and Shell too. It's a free world, but there are stratifications.
