Odion Ighalo claims he turned down the chance to join Barcelona on loan in January as he 'deserved better'. The former Watford striker scored 21 goals for relegated Changchun Yatai in the 2018 Chinese Super League season, which he says attracted interest from the Camp Nou giants. But the Nigeria international felt the nature of the move – a short-team loan deal – was not sufficient to entice him back to Spain, where he had two loan spells with Granada. "My agent spoke to me about a loan interest from Barcelona. The club wanted a striker with LaLiga experience and someone who understands Spanish football," Ighalo, who instead opted to stay in the CSL with Shanghai Shenhua, told BBC Sport. "It was meant to be a six-month loan and strictly as a back-up striker. It was nice to hear that Barcelona were interested and any footballer would be more than happy to take it. "But, with due respect, I had just finished as the second top scorer in China with 21 goals, I deserve better and didn't want to be a short-term player somewhere. "We rejected it, it was an easy decision to make and I chose to stay in China by joining Shanghai Shenhua on a longer contract. "You need to weigh things up properly in life and ask yourself if it is your call to make, or one to satisfy others. "I respect my decision. I needed to focus on what is good for my career long term and when you decide to do something – you stay true to yourself. It wasn't for me and I am happy where I am. "I have no regrets or whatsoever because I am happy at Shanghai Shenhua. To reunite and play under my former Watford coach [Quique Sanchez Flores] is exciting and I love it." losak9111:Cool story but this cannot be a motivation or such cos you ignored the part which asks, could Kalinic have remained in the team and caused the incident that would have brought about Croatia's elimination in the knockout or quarter finals? I'm trying to say it might be a good thing for Croatia rather than a misfortune for Kalinic. Croatia played extra time three times, that is in all their matches right from the round 16. And they played penalty in 2 of those matches, Kalinic as a striker definitely would have been among the players to take the PKs. 1. Would Kalinic have missed his PK and sent them home? 2. Would Kalinic have fouled a player inside the box on the 92nd minutes while defending a corner with Russia or Denmark? We shouldn't want Kalinic to regret anything cos it takes just a player to sell off a match. Things might not turn out well if he was there. Same way Southgate(England coach) would be regretting right now had he played Rashford with the same trust he had in Sterling even with all the critisms. fergieboy:A-Z of what you listed, I didn't see a crime that warrants police harassment. In this country we're so accustomed to having our rights violated that we now feel we owe anybody any explanation on how we live our personal lives. Unless you're caught breaking a law, no police man has the right to block your way and disrupt any of your routines. Policing is not by looking at people, u grow an instinct they're breaking a law, then u start accessing their private lives and properties cos your instincts told you to. In the fundamental human rights, there's clear rights to privacy, properties etc. If one feels being in uniform gives them any rights to trespass on properties they don't own, that's cos illegality and corrupt practices have taken over and that's not policing! |
