thank you. Please how do I notarized affifavit of support? My school requires a notorized affidavit of support before isuance of i20
Notaries Public are usually lawyers who have been confered with that priviledge. Visit a law firm, ask to meet a notary public. He'll first help you depose to an affidavit and then notarize same for you. Shikina! Then you pay.

Congrats halidaf!

You'll have to find where you'll be cooking your egusi soup, fry your plantain and all those your native soup. Check what the dorm entails cos you might have issues with this. Some dorms have only one central cooling system, meaning sometimes they might want the cooling which you wouldn't want.

It's cheaper, more convenient, less private , but good to study.
Thanks a lot slimmy. Lol...not having to eat native soup and all won't be a problem to me, I am willing to adjust. I also have an issue with the security situation of downtown Baltimore, I feel that staying on campus will very much reduce the risks. I'll make further findings on the apartment. I appreciate.

You'll certainly get something cheaper in Baltimore...if you can do your research. Use rent.com,apartmentsearch.com and you get some bonus money smiley if you mention you found them through these sites. If you don't have a car, you'll need to consider distance to your school.
Thanks a lot. I'm actually considering distance to school, utilities etc in relation to the rent. If I get something a bit less expensive off campus and then end up spending the difference on transportation and utilities...well, as you suggested,I'll do a research on it and let you know whatever decision I arrive at.

Where do you plan to stay when school is not in session?
Uhm...would they ask us to leave the apartment when the school is not in session? I'm not sure but I doubt so. The apartment is only for international students in the department, it will be unreasonable of them to ask us to leave. Besides, they said it's for 12months, I understand it to mean 12 calendar months inclusive of holidays and all.

For the difference to be huge then you'd need to find off campus housing that is less than $400 per month. Just carefully weigh your options sha and remember hidden costs like renters insurance (I think) and utilities and tfare to school and furniture etc. If you do choose off campus, be very careful about the neighbourhood. Lots of horror stories about baltimore.

Congrats on your scholarship.
Thank you. I'll keep those in mind. I appreciate

I think you should accept it o. For safety if not for anything else.
Thanks a lot.
I'm thinking though...if there's a huge difference in rent, it may be wiser to take the cheaper of the 2. However,I don't know the probable rent in Baltimore.

Hi guys,

I got this $5,000 housing scholarship towards an on-campus apartment. It brings down my rent from $11k to $6k for the year.

Shoould I accept it? Is it better than staying off campus? Meanwhile, the campus is in Baltimore. Do you guys think it's a good deal compared to an off campus housing rent in Baltimore?

Thank you.
Politics / Re: Moral Vs Law, Which One Precede The Other? by purplesummer(f): 6:15am On Apr 16, 2016
Law has to conform with the moral standard of a given society. In other words, a law that advocates immorality is not good law.

However, one may want to ask; what then is morality?
What is morally just or otherwise can be seen from a reasonable man's perspective, i.e what at average man in the society would see as morally just.

In my humble view therefore, what we see as morality may vary from place to place depending on the moral standards of each place. The law must also reflect this moral standard.

May she be found in one piece.

I got 5,020.92 portion tuition remission and monthly stipends of 1,188.60 after tax for fall/spring semester.
Thank you very much. I appreciate the time and effort you put into your response.
slimmy2005:
It is called Graduate Assiatantship, Full/Half. If full you'll get tuition waiver and a stipend working 20hrs/week. If it's half, it's halft tuition remittance, paid 10hrs working weekly. The issue of Assiatantship is overfloghed already.
I understand slimmy2005, pls take it easy with me even if it seems I'm taking too long to understand how these things work. The thing is, I've got assurances of GA positions from a few professors but we have not discussed the terms of the employment. I need enough info to weigh my odds as I believe the only thing better than being informed is being more informed. Thanks for your contribution.

I got mine via going from one office to the other!
Did it come with only stipends or you had a portion of your tuition waived?

Brief answer, Yes!

To the best of my knowledge, it depends on the kind of assistantship you are offered. If you are lucky to secure a full assistantship (in forms of TA or RA), you will have to work for 20 hours per week and your tuition will be fully covered. On the other hand, if you are offered a half assistantship, you will work for 10 hours per week and half of your tuition will be covered. Either way, you will still have to pay some miscellaneous bills. I would advise you to always be prepared for the worst case scenario. About the terms, it's almost the same as getting it before coming to school.
Thank you very much sir. I get the whole gist now.

From the few people I know of, GAs come with tuition remission / waivers. I'd expect that to be the standard practice.
Cool. I appreciate!

Hello all,

I would like to know if all research assistantships come with tuition remission (whether partial or full). In other words, can I possibly be employed as an RA while I receive only stipends without any form of tuition remission?

Those who got their GA positions only when they arrived the school, what were the terms of the GA?

Thank you.

Hello dear, while you are planning your finance pls bear in mind that there may be other charges aside your tuition such as the fees you pay per semester and the medical insurance.
You may want to put those into consideration too. So, don't work with 5k dollars as you are likely to be underestimating.

Liberty University, ELI
I suggest you mail (or even call) them and tell them why you can not pay such tuition deposit when you have not been granted visa by the US consulate in Nigeria. Tell them that if the deposit is non-refundable then it will be unwise for you to make such payment as you are not ready to forfeit such huge sum if perhaps you are not granted visa. Meanwhile, remind them that you are sure to pay when you secure your visa.
(P.S don't sound as if you are entering into an undertaking to pay the said sum after they issue you with an 1-20)
