Sorry, I'm just responding now. You can also email professors with similar research areas as yours directly indicating interest in joining him/her as part of their research team i.e. as a research assistant.

Another possibility is landing a GA after you land in the US and just before school starts.

You could also get administrative (non-academic) GA positions outside your department. There is often a central GA posting website for open GA vacancies though many GAs are filled by word of mouth and such vacancies never get posted online - this is where you would need to be present in the US to get something like this. Basically, it entails going from office to office and it works. Some people I know have gotten their GAs this way after arriving the US and before school starts.
Thanks a lot bigfrancis. I've already contacted a professor in that regard. Says I should let him know before or after I get to the US.

When did you send in your application? If you think it has taken rather too long then you need to shoot them a mail. If they don't respond to your mail, you call them on the phone.

Good luck!

You could check on the career page for non-teaching GA awards. It could be some offices like Graduate Student Office, Student Hostels as Community/Resident Advisor position amongst others.
Thanks a lot. I appreciate

Mekurexx, got it. Thank you

I got partial scholarships in 3 of the 4 schools I applied to. No GA though, just awards. How can I possibly apply to other departments for a GA position while I'm still in Nigeria?

Hello House. Imperiouxx and other gurus, I want to know if I could mail my admission councilor to ask of any update on my admission process. Is it right to do so? As my application page isn't giving me enough information about my admission process and the waitt is killing, because we already in the middle of March and some schools hve been admitting international students for fall admission. Thanx
When I applied to UMD, I waited to be communicated on the outcome of their admission decision but they were taking too long. I called them only to find out that I had long been admitted but they failed to send me a mail apparently by oversight. They apologised and within few minutes I received the appropriate mails. So, send them a mail or better still call them on the phone.

That's a crass judicial system. A child below the age of seven is incapable of criminal intent.

Come to think of it, the accused person was not even present in court when his sentence was handed down? That's an aberration!

Dear Friends and Gurus,

Any valuable input will be most appreciated. Thank you
To add to what OjaP has suggested, you can actually have most or all of your application fees waived before applying. Several schools offered me an application fee waiver either without or upon my asking. I had to email some of my choice schools for a waiver which they happily granted. From the pool, I chose 4 schools to which I applied.

My point is, you can ask each of the schools to which you intend to apply for an application fee waiver so you won't have to waste the money you don't even have.
I hope this helps...God be with you!

I'm sending LORs and also bank statement plus SOP. One envelope goes to the department and the other to the grad office. I tot DHL was around 8k and NIPOST cheaper. My budget is actually 10k. Btw the EMS had tracking number right?
I'm sorry for the delayed response. Yes, EMS has a tracking number. Well, I sent One envelope containing the 3 LORs. I wouldn't know if they'd charge you for each separate envelope even though both are going to the same school but different departments. Why don't you pay them a visit and have these sorted out?

Hey Guys, Who has used DHL recently or TNT etc. What is their current rate to send an envelope to the US? I'm considering using NIPOST Express, Who has used this particular service?
I used nipost's EMS to send 3 LORs late last year. It took about 5 working days for my parcel to get to Pennsylvania. I was charged #8,920 or something in the neighborhood of that amount.

I don't think that section refers to who pays your flight ticket, I believe it's asking who your sponsor is, ie who sponsors the trip. If you are going to tell the VO that you are sponsoring yourself because you are a working class then your account statement should show it. If your uncle is your sponsor (notwithstanding that you are paying for the flight yourself) then you have to indicate that accordingly.
My humble opinion though.

Hey gurus in the house, please I have a question. I registered for GRE and also filled four(4) schools that I will love my GRE scores to be sent to. Please is there any how I can replace one of the schools before the exam? The exam is Feb 6th. Will appreciate your responses.
When I registered for toefl online, I was able to change, add or remove the schools that would receive my result - free of charge. But after the exam however, you get to pay a token to have your result sent to another school.

I guess you didn't register online but you could log on to the ets website to check if you can do that.

They probably want to see your face - it's the purpose of having any kind of interview really. Just out of curiosity, what are you worried about?
If you speak English coherently and seem like you are the same person that you claimed to be on your application and essays, you will be fine.
I just feel I might get nervous on a video call, lol. I've never had an interview via Skype, I guess it's about time I found out what it feels like.
Thanks a lot.

Hello everyone, so I've got a bunch of Skype interviews lined up for the first week of January.
*I honestly wish I could skip that part of the admission process*

Anyways, I would like to know if it's going to be a Skype chat or a Skype call. I'd rather they don't see my face.
Anybody who has had this kind of admission interview should please enlighten me. Thank you.

* I got denied on first attempt simply because I couldn't give enough reason for choosing murray, I have a good reason now however if am asked this question below, could this be the perfect way to answer it

Q- What is different from your case right now from before?

Ans- Now I can see more better reasons which I didn't see earlier, reason like Murray offer B.S degree in my course which other schools offer B.A.
* My course is properly in the right department which is JMC (journalism & mass communication) and not Liberal Art.
* Murray takes pride in maintaining accreditation which they are achieving higher standards and meeting professional needs.

So please are these reasons cogent enough, if it isn't please help a broda provide a better response for this question.
Dear Daniel3366, sincerely if I were a VO, I wouldn't grant you visa based on the reasons you stated above. In my humble opinion, they are neither reasonable nor convincing.
As I wish you the very best of luck, I want to urge you to put in more effort so as to nail it this time.

Since you already have a 5-year bachelor's degree, AACRAO will evaluate it into a US bachelor's degree equivalent, and your law school transcript will also have to be evaluated independently.
It's much clearer to me now. I appreciate.
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 8 by purplesummer(f): 7:38pm On Nov 29, 2015
bigfrancis21:
The thing with AACRAO is that they are fast in transcript evaluation, much faster than WES. The conversion scale of AACRAO is slightly lower than WES. In WES, our A remains A on the US scale (4 points), our B is B+ (3.3), our C is B (3 points), our D is C+, our E is C and F is F. On the WES scale, there are no Ds and Es after conversion, any Ds and Es in our transcript are converted to C+ and C, meaning more points towards your final CGPA. However, with AACRAO, our A, B and C are their A, B+ and B respectively, but our D and E are their C and D respectively. With AACRAO, there is a D grade and also notice the significant drop from C+ and C in WES to C and D respectively in AACRAO, meaning a slightly lesser final GPA with AACRAO compared with WES.

But, AACRAO is quite faster in their evaluation compared with WES and is also cheaper. The issue with WES is that it takes time for evaluation but where the delay usually lies in is in the transcript verification stage after your school (or you using your school's name and address as sender) has sent your transcript to WES and they've sent it back to your school to verify that it is valid before they proceed with the evaluation. Usually, after the verification is received back from the school, it takes about 1 week for WES to do the translation and mail out a copy to the address as listed on your application form. You can be proactive in your WES evaluation process by following up with your school to know when WES has sent the verification request so you can nudge your school to respond as quick as possible.

If your 2 transcripts are OND + HND, they should accept it from you and convert it to a 4-year US bachelor's equivalent since they are both of 2 years each.
Thank you so very much for the lecture. You more than did justice to the question.

I would have loved to use WES despite their notoriety for delay, but the schools I'm applying to keep mentioning the AACRAO. My two transcripts are; a 5-year university bachelors transcript and another from the Nigerian Law School.

I guess I should go with AACRAO and hope for the best.
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 8 by purplesummer(f): 8:19am On Nov 29, 2015
bigfrancis21, I'm aware you are quite knowledgeable about WES evaluations. However, I'm about to use the AACRAO (that's the required /recommended platform). I would like to know if AACRAO would "butcher" my CGPA or is it likely that they use the same grading system with WES?
Meanwhile, I've got two transcripts, will they evaluate them separately or jointly?
....lol, shey I'm asking you these questions as if you work with AACRAO? grin

I also did something similar like this for my California state Uni application. You need to check previous graduate catalogues of your program & also the current graduate catalogue (2015-2016). normally there should be a sample ''proposed program of study form'' cuz for mine, there was a sample and I just used it to fill mine. Its more like course registration and allocating credits for each semester but i think it can still be changed when admission is given
Thank you sir. Can't find a sample though but i guess i'd keep looking. I appreciate.

Good day all. Please how am I supposed to complete a "proposed program of study form" when I'm still at the application stage. I mean, I'm expected to list the courses i'd be taking and then write something on the focus and purpose of the 'graduate legal work' I propose to undertake during the academic year.
I thought I should only fill these forms when I'm already in school because as it stands, I barely know the courses i'll take aside the compulsory ones.

Umm...I hope I made some sense.

N.B. The school in question is the University of Georgia school of law at Athens
