Sorry but you are the one who lacks the ability to think critically. The focus on petrol is banal and myopic. We have many sectors we must focus on investing in optimally , like transport and power supply, to lessen our dependency on PMS consumption so it can become a valuable export and economic asset for Nigeria for the first time in ages .


Progressive Countries are today talking about aggressively meeting energy transition plan, essentially a move away from reliance on fossil fuel nearing depletion.

Yet you,mocking others for lacking the ability to think critically, talk ignorantly about rehabilitating refineries, a thoroughly discredited consideration in the annals of Nigeria's political and administrative leadership, and you think you are intelligent or up to speed with critical considerations?

Smart Nigerians, able to think critically, will appreciate that we want corrupt government hands, except in a regulatory capacity, off our downstream sector totally.

The aim, for Nigeria, should be to gain a very efficient downstream oil and gas sector, via full deregulation, in the short to medium term. I.e 4 to 12 year period.

We then move aggressively towards developing several sectors of socio-economic activities that will see majority of our locally refined PMS for exported sale to gain Nigeria valuable forex, a greater manufacturing sector, considerable employment for many etc.

Think how much less PMS we would need if we even get a rail travel system as efficient as that of South Africa talk less of those in developed European nations.

The private sector, driven by the need to gain profit and ROI, is the only assurance we can gain a modern, efficient and productive oil and gas sector onwards to releasing the full economic and financial potentials of our crude endowment.

Anyone, like you, focusing on PMS as pivotally important to Nigeria's long term economic outlook is simply illiterate per where we need to go socio-economically. It is doubtful most western nations of the world, the biggest consumers of PMS, would not have met their energy transition plan at least 60-70% in the next 40 years.

We must plan for that. The effort should be to see us join them as modern and energy-efficient nation , rather than view ourselves simplistically as their crude or PMS supplier.That effort must begin now so we do not fall further behind than we undesirable are today.

As a parting thought, if you have ever experienced even moderately developed African nations first hand do you see their citizens carrying kegs up and down to buy petrol?
