• HOW QUICKLY DO I USE MY WORDS ? - 3

Hebrews 3:1 Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;

The word Apostle means one who is sent. The word confession was translated from a word that means to consent to, agree with, acknowledge an idea, a submission.

This means, there is what you are agreeing with, something must have happened for you to consent to it. So a confession is a conclusion, it refers to that which is definite and has a conclusion.

Jesus Christ being the apostle and High Priest of our confession shows our confession is what He has done, accomplished, (His conclusion).

Hebrews 4:14 … let us hold fast our profession…
Hebrews 10:23 … hold fast the profession of our faith…
What is the profession about? That he rose from the dead and that He is our High priest seated at the Right Hand of the Father making intercession for us.

Our profession is what He has done.

Everytime the word is used, an action, event had been explained earlier, that you are consenting to.

2nd Corinthians 9:13 …your professed subjection to the Gospel…
That is, …your acknowledged subjection to the Gospel.
Every time the word “confession” is used there must have been a conclusion spoken of earlier.

Matthew 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
…And then will I acknowledge unto them…
So the confession is to acknowledge or witness to a conclusion.

Jesus in the above text was not rejecting them but acknowledging that they were never his, he acknowledged the fact that they were not saved. So confession is not saying for something to happen but saying that which has happened.

John 1:19 And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou?
Vs 20 And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ.

Here, John was not making anything happen rather he was making an acknowledgement.

John 12:42 Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue:

The Pharisees did not acknowledge what they had believed. So whenever the word confession is used, it indicates that there must have been a prior event that is being acknowledged.

Matthew 3:6 And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.

Mark 1:5 And there went out unto him all the land of Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all baptized of him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins.

The word confession in the text above in this case was translated from a word that means to openly acknowledge.

They were not coming out one after the other mentioning their sins, because he had quite a multitude of them. So what did they acknowledge? They acknowledged what John preached.

What did John preach? Repentance for the remission of sins, that was what they came out publicly to acknowledge.

Acts 10:37 That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;
Vs 38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

Acts 19:3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.
Vs 4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
That confession was to publicly consent to what John said.

Acts 23:6
But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees, and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, Men and brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee: of the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question.
Vs 7 And when he had so said, there arose a dissension between the Pharisees and the Sadducees

: and the multitude was divided.
Vs 8 For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, neither angel, nor spirit: but the Pharisees confess both.
… but the Pharisees acknowledge both…
So a confession has to do with your conviction, what you believe.

That is, to say with your mouth what you have believed in your heart. Romans 10:9

What was their confession? That God hath raised Jesus from the dead. So what do we do with our words? We acknowledge that God raised Jesus from the dead.

Hebrews 11:13 …they confessed (acknowledged) that they were strangers and pilgrims on earth…

Hebrews 13:15 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.

That is…acknowledging his name. The word name was translated from a word that means position, function, authority. So far, it is clear that the word Confession is not used in reference to sins.

Confession means to acknowledge, consent to a conclusion that has been concluded and then is consented to in words. So, the believer has a good confession- everything God has done in Christ is now our confession

Confession: I have a good confession, I affirm who I am in Christ.

• HOW QUICKLY DO I USE MY WORDS ? - 2

Mark 11:23 …Whosoever shall say…
This word say was translated from the Greek word “lego.” It means to affirm by speaking, a specific speaking, to instruct.
Jesus was speaking of the believer’s authority.
Vs 23 … but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.

The word “saith” in the text above was translated from the Greek word, “lalos.” It refers to a regular speaking, to be talkative, to tell a tale.

Hence this speaking is an affirmative speaking which would be regular, constant and persistent. That is, whosoever shall command and believe that those things which he keeps saying shall come to pass, he shall have whatsoever he says.
… he shall have whatsoever he saith.

The word “saith” above was translated from the Greek word, “eimi.” It means to exist. So, the first instance of the word say is to give a specific instruction. The second instance is to persist on what you said (instructed).

The believer is seated with Christ, exalted in him, the same authority given to Jesus is given to him today, Ephesians 1:20-23, Ephesians 2:4-7.

The believer’s authority is not given as an ornament, it is to be used, it is necessary. Jesus often spoke that which had been spoken ahead of time about him in Scriptures. He spoke the word.

Matthew 27:46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

He was quoting Psalm 22:1.
Notice that he did not stop speaking, even on the cross. In hell, he spoke Acts 2:27-33.

As a believer, the words you speak must be important to you.

Paul explained Abraham’s example of faith.
Romans 4:17 (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.
The word “made” means to ordain, make. This implies that the man would have to function in it.
It was also used in used in Romans 5:19, to describe how a man is not made a sinner because he is born into the world. He would have to make a choice to believe or not.

Romans 4:17 (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.
Vs 18 Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.
Vs 19 And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara's womb:
Vs 20 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;
Vs 21 And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.
He believed God who quickeneth the dead.

The word quickeneth was used strictly for God, and refers to the resurrection of the dead. Further references: John 5:21, John 6:63, 1st Corinthians 15:22, 36, 45, 2nd Corinthians 3:6, 1st Timothy 6:13, Galatians 3:21, 1st Peter 3:18, Romans 8:10.

So it is God who quickeneth the dead. However, the next statement adds.
…and calleth the things that be not as though they were…
This is not in reference to God.

God had spoken, a father of any nations have I made you…

And the post-text spoke about the deadness of Abraham’s body and Sarah’s womb. So it was Abraham’s responsibility to call the things that be not as though they were. He would choose to put God’s word on his lips and speak of that which is not yet a reality in the natural as though it has happened.

What were the things that be not? He was not a father.
What did he call? I am a father
What did he become? a father

Vs 18 ...who against hope believed in hope
This is in reference to Abraham.
He had to align his words with what God said, that he might become….
The word “become,” means to come to pass.

He was not weak in faith. He considered not his own body now dead.
The word “Consider” means to take account of, take note of, perceive….
The word dead means to be deprived of life.
.. nor the deadness of Sarah’s womb…
The word, “Deadness” means impotent; cannot carry out a function.

The word consider was used in Hebrews 3:1, Hebrews 10:24, James 1:23-24. Very vitally, it means to forget. His body communicated words to him but Abraham did not make mention of it. He stopped repeating those words, rather he gave glory to God. He began to take into consideration instead what God had said about him. He spoke of it as though it were happening.

He was fully persuaded, that is he got to a point where nothing could change what he had affirmed.

Therefore, being in faith is not a magic wand, you will need to call the things that be not as though they are.

You must say, insist, and affirm who you are in Christ. You must say it so often and say it aloud. The Psalmist lent credence to this.

Psalms 107:2: Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy;

The word (so) is not in the originals
Rather it is, …let the redeemed of the Lord say who he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy…

Therefore the believer has the responsibility to affirm what Christ has done.
Revelation 12:11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
The word “and” means that is. Hence, the reason for our speaking; our boldness, is the blood of the Lamb that was shed eternally for our sins. Hebrews 10:14-19

Confession: I have the faith of Christ, I call the things that be not as though they were. I dare to say who I am in Christ. I dare to say what I can do in Christ. I affirm what the Word of God says about me. I say it all the time.

Philippians 4: 6 Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

This implies that the personalities involve in prayer is God and man

1st Peter 3:12 For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.

In the place of prayer, God does listen every time, every day.

James further explained the personality of God, knowing what he can do and what is not part of him.

James 1:13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:

God does not tempt with evil and he does not do evil.

James 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

Rather James said earlier that God gives to all liberally, which implies that God’s character is to give. The word liberally means single mindedness, sincerity. That is, God is single minded about giving in prayer. There is a willingness to give without defamation or fault finding (upbraideth not).

His giving is not specifically on how we ask. No, it is not. His giving is based rather on his character.

James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

He further highlights God’s character as the One who does no evil, every good and perfect gift is from the father of light. All that the father gives is good and perfect. This is constant about God.

There is no variableness, neither shadow of turning, there is no change of personalities with God.

CONFESSION: God is my father, His character is to give liberally, without finding fault in me. Am blessed.

• PRAYER IS A CONSTANT

Luke 21:36 Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.

Jesus instructed his disciples to pray always. The Epistles also give instructions about prayer.

Romans 12:12 Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;

The phrase continuing instant means to be constantly diligent. Thus the believer must be diligent with prayer.

Ephesians 6:18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

Paul said to pray always, making known your desires and requests to the Lord.

Colossians 4:2 Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving;

Prayer should be the lifestyle of the believer, it should be daily because it’s a necessity. Jesus had this lifestyle and his disciples followed after the same lifestyle, even after his resurrection and ascension.

Acts 1:12 Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day's journey.
Vs 13 And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James.
Vs 14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

Acts 2:42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

Prayer became their lifestyle, it is a constant, there is no point where prayer becomes invalid.

Acts 3:1 Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour.

Acts 4:31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.

Acts 6:4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

CONFESSION: Prayer is my lifestyle, I give myself continually in prayer, making my request known unto the father.

ChybuzzDD:
Kudos to you!
In Philipians 4:6, it was "Be careful for nothing,..." What does this really mean? Was God actually telling us to be careless, and then go ahead to pray about whatever the consequence of our actions be? I need your articulated response to the above queries.
Thank you!
First the word careful is a poor translation from Greek to English by king James, careful in the original Greek rendering is the word "merimnao" which is rendered in contemporary English language as "to be anxious" therefore it's a state and not an action about to be carried out. So that verse if you check the new king James version is rendered like this, Phil.4.6 - Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;
So Paul was addressing the church concerning the cares an the needs of life, if you check vs 4 he said "rejoice always..." so this are believers who are already worn out and who are under pressure of different necessities of life and those were his admonition ...IN EVERYTHING BY PRAYER AND SUPPLICATION... " that's the way to go till you see your expected result.

• WHAT IS PRAYER?

Mark 11: 24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

Prayer is making your desires known to the father. It also means to make a strong appeal or a fixed request of what you desire.

This implies that prayer cannot be by thinking, words have to be spoken. It is an activity carried out in reverence by man.

Philippians 4: 6 be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

By prayer and supplication, let your request, that is your desire be made known unto God.

The words prayer and supplication refer to the same thing, it is to make petitions or come before a higher authority with your request.

This was used earlier in chapter 1.

Philippians 1:4 Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy,

Romans 10:1 Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved.

Prayer involves verbalizing our desires, to speak forth our request unto God.

Matthew 21:22 And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

James 1:5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

God expects that we make a request, He wants us to ask him.

PRAYER: Today pray for something specific, your desire. Make a request to God in Jesus name!
