Gerrard59:
My problem is with your school not even the course. Hopefully, they don't go on strike and you miss out on job openings not because you are not qualified, but due to your age.

There's nothing wrong with studying physics, trust me, you can be anything you desire to be. Just have an open mindset and don't restrict yourself to few industries like the fellow who has a CGPA of 4.46 in mathematics and telling me he does not like bank jobs.

Learn hard core programming skills. Your discipline will make you very analytical, so you have an advantage there. The best jobs are usually analytical and requires persons with good numerical skills.

If you aspire to study abroad, now is the time to develop your CGPA. When you are done, put in for the GRE. A folk like you should not score less than 160 in the quant section, at least I don't expect such.

Most importantly, make a very good grade. Preferably a first class. This cannot be overemphasised further. Don't tell you cannot oh. Year one is the best time to make it possible.

P.S. Don't cross to engineering. Unless specified, there's no role or position that an engineer can apply for that a physicist cannot. Besides, age ain't on your side. I don't advise folks your age to study anything engineering related in a public university.

Take to this advice and you are good to fly.

With a degree in Physics, you can work in the Major organisation, Oil and Gas, Banking etc However, ensure that you make the most of your skill. It will do you good to learn how to code (programming). Being able to code alone will make the difference. Also note that many employers are not particular about the course you study, but rather interested in your intellectual capability. Put your heart to your studies and do your best to graduate with a good grade. Also be on the lookout for Scholarships. Finally, I recommend you read this article https://www.nairaland.com/4458613/13-life-lessons-every-nigerian (13 Life Lessons Every Nigerian Student Should Know Before Obtaining A Degree )

HOW TO BECOME AN ANGEL OR DARLING

[Beep Beep] Lekan got a SMS alert, it read, “Thank you for being an Angel, I made an A in GET 263”. Lekan was taken aback by Bisi’s text message. He was happy she made an A and wondered how it made him an Angel.

Not convinced how he became an Angel, Lekan rang Bisi; the following conversation ensued:

Lekan: Hi Bisi, Congrats for making an A in GET 263.
Bisi: [Sounding excited] Thanks Lekan, you are a darling, an Angel……

Lekan: How do you mean Bisi, what did I do to become Angel?
Bisi: The Past Question…. the 2005 Past Question was repeated. I can’t imagine the grade I’d have made if I hadn’t reviewed the Past Question – maybe a D or an E.

Lekan: Oh.. I See. Congratulations Again.

[Dateline 2007] Lekan was a 300L Undergraduate of Mechanical Engineering in one of Nigeria’s leading University. Few hours to the commencement of the 200 Level GET 263 exams (General Engineering Mathematics) , he recalled that he had some study materials and 2005 Past Questions for Get 263 and thought it will be useful for his 200L friends. Beauty + Brains = Real Beauty

It is unacceptable for the President to de-market her youth to a global audience. However, what question did the President respond to when stating that the Nigerian youths are lazy? Successive Northern Leaders continue to benefit unjustly from the gross illiteracy of their people and do little or nothing to save their region from Educational backwardness. We can only pray and hope the shackles will fall someday. We pray for their Liberation. A Case of a people haunted by their own.
