Upwork right? I was looking at the job board yesterday and the pay looked outrageous. Who accepts $15 to design a website? I even saw a job ad asking for people to populate their discord server with chats to get a whitelist. Pay: $5 per 1000 chats. Bro ! But if it's for the experience, I guess it's worth looking into.

No avoid those look at niche skills like Shopify, Chrome extension, I got paid 100usd for a quick task, don't look for low balling gigs. Which is why experience matters for leverage , it can be higher i take small gigs because of speed.

There's hope you just need to be serious and focused, I've tried mentoring people but lack of patience and focus is often the problem. There is no quick wealth

Even in Tech, Customer Support and System Admin have lower entry barriers and pay very well (although not as well as Development). There's a company in Malta that pays €55k/annum for just IT Support.

I prefer TS over JS, but I can share resources in the slack, plus i assist people with their Upworks profile, the goal is having community of devs we can outsource our work to, soonce a gig comes, i can send to another dev add my money and we both get paid and move on. I don't believe in just me knowing alot of tech without sharing it with another. Outsourcing is the sweet spot, the issue is finding competent devs.

Ignore Nigerian jobs e.g Website building looking at building SPA, look into platform development WordPress etc then apply for remot gigs and be doing some side gigs on Upworks. trust me it makes more sense than working for a Nigerian Tech company. But the journey requires sweat and consistency. There is no quick path you must be good and keep practicing.

If 1.5m comes in every month guaranteed, a meagre 150k shouldn't be settling your bills whether short or long term.

1.5 comes guaranteed but I have to invest most of that money, some of it goes to my business and also as a first born, I have financial responsiblities, like my parents, babe and siblings and I have needs too.

150k goes a long way

My internet is 20k monthly, my office license for MS Office 30k yearly , Netflix, Spotify and also membership fee I pay plus Food.

It's good to have a side gig taking care of bills when you invest a majority of salary

Client pay me there as contractor

method 2: DOM Account

They send to my DOM and I sell to BDC

Method 3: Wise

I send to my Wise and sell to a friend who sells the cash on Lemonade

Method 4: Bank ( Only do this if you are desperate)
My DOM can convert to naira except that this uses official rate.


My Advice

Get a DOM Account
Try and get a Wise Account

and find people who you can sell to, trusted friends. I have colleagues outside the country so it is easy for me

yeah that's massively huge, $33,000 usd monthly I don't know any job that pays remote like that unless he has a specialized skill, I am no doubting but that's very hard to reach via freelance

I couldn't keep up with new innovations in web development so I left for other business.

I have no background in Web development, only interest and I attended a 6 weeks training.

What is your interest, there are also non tech gigs check Upworks, alot of Nigerians make cash from VA, Design and Administrative support, just that Tech has a large barrier to entry so that drives the value vs a admin role.

Check on upworks or follow my diary, I tend to write more about it from time to time.

It's not the knowledge it's building value with the knowledge you have. Alot of companies have platforms that need engineers to work on, Moodle alone fetched me money if not the development experience is gruesome and complex. There are tons of platforms to dive into. Web Hosting is old skool

I started as a website designer in 2012 I used to charged 80k on the average.

I was never out of job cos I have my posters everywhere in the city of Abuja and my SEO was top notch.

The highest I ever charged was 200k, only 150k was paid.

The last website I did was around 2017. Ordinary static website could take up to 6month.

Also some newbies decided to spoil the market and were offering wedsites for 30k. So when you tell someone to pay 120k and they tell you it is cheaper with someone else, I simply tell them, please work with that person.

I'm into some other business now and I'm doing fine.

Yes, I have alot of foreign bills, such as hosting, cloud servers and alot of subscriptions for my company plus people are dependent on me too

No plan, we did something for her behalf, so we are both tapped out financially. there's always another day

For non company projects. I have charged like 300 USD for a simple JavaScript carousel which had like ten lines of code. I however charged someone in Nigeria like 800k to build a WordPress theme. Only 150k was paid and I kuku locked the site. They no send till today. That was the end for me and working for Nigerians.

I stopped working with Nigerian Projects, the day I found myself shouting and cursing at the project owner. The lady just had an ego and hated Andela devs, I tried to tell her why the approach we were taking was wrong, this lady shut me down, until 3 weeks into development, the devs confirmed what I raised and it meant a rewrite and the lady said I should have convinced her properly. Omo I refunded their money and the sad part is it was 150k, then my salary was 10 times more, I just took it because I wanted to pay bills.

Foreign projects they listen to you and respect your opinions.
