QueenNemesis:
Good day everyone.

I am a 300 level student guy in a Fed Uni and what happened right now is just very funny and I think I need solid financial advice from the investment experts here. Everyone should please endeavour to contribute.

A distant uncle called me about a month ago that he has a connect to a FG grant and requested for my details. Immediately I heard that, I quickly forwarded him my BVN and other bank details. He later called me to inform me I have been registered.

Fast forward to about a week later. . .He then called me and started explaining that the stuff is a actually a LOAN not a GRANT and that his connect will take back 40% of it after I am credited. Immediately, I was confused. Because I am still a student and that kind of risk does not make any sense. Actually, if he had told me it was a LOAN initially I wouldn't have sent my details. I told him instantly that I am not interested in the package anymore since it is a LOAN and to even add salt to injury, one facilitator will demand 40% of it because he made it happen. Nah me and am go repay am? grin

About 5 days later, I got an SMS from NMFB that my loan has been approved and I should follow a link, input my details and get credited. I ignored this message and went about my business. A week after, I got another message from the same NMFB that they have created a NISRAL account or something for me. I was a bit confused and perplexed because I did not click on their link because I am not interested in their loan. I checked my account balance to reassure myself and it showed that no money was credited and I was a bit relieved.

Now, just about 20 minutes ago. I got a whopping 700k alert from NMFB for a loan I don't want.

The question I need to ask you elders is : What next for me? I must also add that my uncle demanded that if I get credited, I must pay that 40% to the facilitator guy but ofcourse I won't because I will not even inform him that I have been credited.

- Buy a tricycle and give to a rider? Because Obviously I can't drive it because I am a student

- Buy a piece of land and wait for it to appreciate

- Buy bitcoin and hold

- Buy dollars and keep

- jejely return the loan (I don't even know how to go about this!)

- others? (Please specify)

E go shock you say the guy don collect N300k or more before the N700k enter your hand, the additional N400k he seek maybe a more greedy plan to completely chop you raw.
Wow. Thanks for this.

Then I need to be more proactive about finding the loan details and plotting how to eventually return it.

Log on to nirsal official site, print your offer letter and find out the loan details.

The initiator of the loan can get his share before you receive alert.

I suggest you return back the money.
I have visited their site. I don't know how to go about printing the loan details.

Can you put me through sir/ma? I will be glad.

In fact, tell your uncle you haven't received anything
That's the exact plan.

But what do I do with the money? There is 5-9% interest. embarassed

Exactly boss.

Genuine business owners were probably denied this opportunity but freely given to a student who has no business he is running.

I just tire. Loan wey I no want.

We are in the same shoe bro! But ain't giving out shishi, 703k and I will give you 203k...ko possible, I wasn't told before now. I've my business before now..so I should give u out of the money I know I will pay back? Not possible
Atleast you have a business you run. You can channel the money into it for expansion and greater profits.

As a student, what do I do with the money?

And of ofcourse I am not paying shit to any facilitator neither should you.

Think about this, you got 700k but you will be paying interest on N1.1 million because the person who approved the loan got 400k.

What is the interest rate? What is the duration of the loan? What are the terms of the loan?

I wish you the best ooooo
Sir, I am not saying there isn't the possibility that the facilitator might have diverted a % of it, but the chances of it is very slim. I was directly credited by the NMFB. Also, the agreement the guy had with my uncle was that I will pay him after I have been credited (which I won't do!).

But I understand your concerns sir.

Your final suggestion is I return the money?? Even if I want to. How do I go about it? I am practically clueless.

I have seen a Nairaland thread about the loan though but it has about 500+ pages.

Have you seen the loan offer document. It is possible the loan is about N1.5 million or there about, but you were credited 700k.

You will be expected to pay interest on the correct amount.

I will escalate this issue and return back the money ooooo.

That is what I will do, with your BVN you are going nowhere.

I was surprised, how a property lawyer was able to get 850k debt a tenant owed by just getting the necessary approval from a Magistrate court and the tenants BVN
Thanks for your prompt response, sir.

I did not see any loan offer document infact the approval of the loan is quite silly because I did not accept the Loan Offer after I was approved

And ofcourse, I am aware I will repay that is why I am not treating it as free money.

I was hoping that a passive investment strategy can be suggested for me that will eventually be capable of repaying the loan and leave a little change for me.

If anyone knows how I can access the loan offer document. I don't mind.

I'm having the same issue since 2 days now. It's always very slow to load pages and pictures. Yesterday I just got frustrated and went to bed after trying severally to leave a comment but failed.
I'm relieved someone is explicitly corroborating my experience.

Nairaland was always quick to access ; before you are done clicking on a link, the next page is already staring at you. Pictures are also easily loaded without any hassle.

Sadly, since about 3 days ago, the story has negatively changed. Nairaland Front page now takes 10 minutes to fully load and God help you if you click on any story, it will delay and delay before you angrily shut down your browser.

I have loaded several other sites and nothing of such was noticed which prompted me to conclude that my experience definitely isn't an isolated one.

Noticed it too, but not much of a delay, the loading rate is slow of trends.
I have switched from UC browser to Chrome and nothing has changed!

It is very frustrating. Nairaland is not usually this way.

I haven't noticed anything of that sort tho...but have gat my eyes peeled
Do you use another gadget apart from a phone to access Nairaland site?

It is shocking that you have not noticed that Nairaland pages load slower than normal in recent days.

What do you mean by : "eyes peeled"?
RomanceWho Else Is Having Difficulty Accessing And Surfing Nairaland? by QueenNemesis(op): 7:53pm On Feb 18, 2021
Is Nairaland under attack?

In the past few days, I have had extreme difficulty accessing and browsing Nairaland. The Nairaland site that loads easily and speedily within seconds now take about 10-15 minutes to load a single page.

This post does not intend to ridicule the efforts of the owner of this website regarding maintenance but to draw their attention to this budding menace that if left unchecked can prompt the gradual decline of this great website.
