SWEDEN !!!!!!! Source: www.naijahamlet.com BECAUSE OF THE HIGHT RATE OF MALE RAPE , THE GOVT. HAD TO OPEN A TRAUMA HOSPITAL FOR MALE RAPE VICTIMS In a bid for gender equality, Sweden opened its first rape center specifically for male victims Thursday, Metro reported. The clinic opened at Södersjukhuset, one of the largest hospitals in Stockholm. The new clinic is understood to be the first emergency department devoted solely to male rape victims. Sweden has the highest rate of rape in Europe, and the hospital already operates a 24-hour, walk-in clinic for women and girls who have been sexually assaulted, treating between 600 to 700 patients a year. Roughly 370 cases of sexual assault on males were reported in the country in 2014, according to the Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention. The opening of the rape center was hailed by multiple political parties in the country. "Emergency medical care for raped men will be free of charge, and offered around the clock, all year," local Moderate party politician and council representative on emergency care in a statement, Marie Ljungberg Schöt said in a statement, the Local reported. "So far there has been no specific place for men who are victims of rape to turn to. Therefore we in the Alliance have decided to change this." A study conducted in 2014 by the sexual education organization RFSU proposed that men across many municipalities in Sweden were uncertain about where they could get emergency help prior to a rape. "There are myths about masculinity that make it difficult for men who have been sexually traumatized to talk about their experiences," said Inger Björklund, a spokesperson for RFSU, the Local reported. "A clinic focusing on men who have been sexually abused will contribute to the awareness of experiences of sexual abuse among men and make it more possible to meet men's needs." |

Three female suicide bombers on Friday, attacked the Umarari Bayan Waya area of Mulai Village in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital with Improvised Explosive Devices (IED), leaving at least seven people feared killed and 17 others injured. The blast was reported to have occurred around a few minutes past 5am when Muslim faithful were getting ready for the early morning prayer, reports Channels TV. The explosion claimed the lives of the suicide bombers and four others while 17 injured are currently receiving treatment at the Specialist Hospital. This is coming barely 24 hours after many worshippers were feared dead in a bomb explosion in a mosque around Mulai area of Maiduguri. The bomb went off when worshippers were observing their Magrib prayers. Dozens of worshippers were killed when two suicide bombers blew themselves up in the mosque, witnesses said. “All the people in the mosque died. Not a single one escaped,” said Muhtari Ahmadu, a trader near the scene. “We counted 42 dead bodies outside the mosque,” added Amadu Marte, a vigilante supporting the security forces in the fight against the Islamist Boko Haram group, which has carried out repeated attacks in the region. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/10/breaking-maiduguri-bombed-again-in-friday-morning-attack/ |

The Ty Warner Penthouse suite in New York is the priciest suite in the US as it costs $50k a night. Why does it cost that much? Well, according to the business Insider, it has an amazing 360-degree panorama (as it is the highest suite in the Big Apple). It is 400 square metres (4,300 sq ft) which is about the size of an NBA basketball court. Plus a 56 square metre bedroom with finishing touches like Thai silk with 22 carat gold threads. The suite comes with its own private elevator, a 24-hour private butler, a chauffeur-driven Rolls-Royce, an art concierge (to guide you through the hotel’s collection) and a personal trainer and the suite can accommodate up to three people. MI has gone for Femi Fani-Kayode on twitter Yesterday, former minister Femi Fani-Kayode released a statement saying that if anything happens to former Secretary to Government of the Federation, and Afenifere chieftain, Chief Olu Falae, who was kidnapped yesterday from his farm, that the Federal Government will be held responsible and there will be consequences. MI thought the statement was inappropriate and slammed him on twitter... Starting a company is solitary and challenging especially in Nigeria where the business environment is rough and the cost of doing business is somehow high. This is not peculiar to Nigeria alone, other developing countries and under-developed countries face the same challenges. Therefore working with others going through the same challenges and being mentored and supported makes a huge difference. In recent time we have seen many startup accelerators launched in Lagos and other part of Nigeria and some are really doing great. Startup Accelerator will help you make your idea a reality as you learn from seasoned entrepreneurs with track record in the entrepreneurship ecosystem. Working with startup accelerator or incubator has its advantage and disadvantage. But the advantages outweigh the disadvantage. Some of the advantages are: access to mentor, investor, alumni network, funding, office space, media exposure among other benefits. The disadvantage are: Your original vision might be changed or work in different direction, You don’t have time to do other business except to focus on your idea, you spend much time meeting mentors and attending events, giving up a chunk of your company etc. Below are some of the startup accelerators and incubators in Nigeria 1) The Innovation Ecosystem (Co-creation Hub) CCHub CcHUB is Nigeria’s first open living lab and pre-incubation space designed to be a multi-functional, multi-purpose space where work to catalyze creative social tech ventures take place. The HUB is a place for technologists, social entrepreneurs, government, tech companies, impact investors and hackers in and around Lagos to co-create new solutions to the many social problems in Nigeria. CcHub functions at the heart of Nigeria’s technology innovation ecosystem as a place to: facilitate creative thinking and collaborative problem solving encourage technology innovation for improved social accountability in Nigeria incubate novel tech ideas that promotes good governance/provision of public services encourage shared accountability between technologist & innovators serve as a living lab for prototyping and testing socially minded tech tools build new skills and competencies connect, share, create and find expertise We start by identifying talented individuals/teams who have ideas and support the development of Minimum Viable Products (MVPs) to solve real local market problems/issues. To date, over fifty (50) ideas have enjoyed support through our Pre-Incubation program prominent of which are BudgIT, WeCyclers, Truppr, Traclist, Genii games, Vacantboards, Jobs In Nigeria, 500 shops, Efiko, Nigerian Constitution app, NaijaTeenz, Open apps, Church+. The program provides idea proponents/teams with mentoring, pre-seed funding, project planning, usability testing and customer validation for their solutions. We focus on well defined and scalable revenue models. We are a collection of internet people. We are SPARK”. SPARK’s investments range from $100k – $250k. The most successful of the SPARK bunch is looking to be Hotels.ng, in spite of having to take on competition from a significantly better funded Rocket Internet counterpart. Visit Spark here: http://spark.ng/ 3) 440NG and L5LAB 440ng 440.ng is a joint venture between L5LAB and 88mph investing in start-ups in Africa through a 3 month accelerator program model Startups can apply for investment from the 1st of May this year, we will make our first investments during August. The startups that receive an investment from us will move their laptop and coffee mug into a co-working space where we will spend 3 months working together with them on getting to market, testing their products, and helping them build a strong investment case for bigger investors. We invest between $10k – $100k USD. Their portfolio: Jobberman, , Oya.com.ng, Kamdora Visit their website: http://440.ng and http://l5lab.com 4) LEADPATH NIGERIA leadpath LeadPath Nigeria is a seed capital fund that specialises in providing short, medium and long term funding to small and medium sized start-up businesses in high growth technology areas such as software, web and mobile technologies.. Then visit Leadpath here http://leadpath.com.ng. 5) iDEA/TechLaunchpad idea-techlaunchpad An initiative of the Nigerian ministry of communications and technology, TechLaunchpad graduated its first class of tech startups on the 7th of March. All eight received undisclosed amounts of funding during the acceleration period and were given use of the iDEA facility that was opened early in 2013 in Yaba for that purpose, among other things. Whereas the first edition of the TechLaunchpad accelerator was focused on banking, financial services, oil and gas and enterprise solutions, TechLaunchpad 2.0 targets startups that are working on solutions in telecommunications, agriculture and logistics, building and construction and health. Payment on delivery, the devil according to eCommerce players, is still very much the norm in Nigeria. I spoke with a few people why they prefer payment on delivery even when shopping with the biggest and most reputable players in Nigeria and yet they could make orders in distant countries on Amazon, Asos and Aliexpress. Basically, my survey was divided into 2 sets of people – those that don’t trust local eCommerce players well enough to refund them quickly if they are unsatisfied with their order and those that think they’re vulnerable to all sorts of card fraud once they enter their card details online. Personally, it’s a struggle to get Aliexpress to refund me for orders I never get and the latter group would never approve of such transactions. These myths were written by MasterCard from their survey and they are dedicated towards those people that fall in the latter group because to them, sometimes, a convenient payment solution to make life easier might seem too good to be true, but with the rise of technology it really is possible. MasterCard For example, electronic payment developments such as contactless cards and digital wallets seem to be suspiciously simple, too simple in fact that misperceptions or myths are created around payment safety and security. There are universal truths about the technology and safety behind electronic payments, in contrast to everyday misperceptions. MasterCard has traced some common payment myths about cashless payment solutions and has ‘busted’ them with the truth, to help provide peace of mind. Myth 1: Card information breaches are rampant and out of control. Truth: Efforts by the payments technology industry to enhance the security of payment systems has delivered substantial falls in card breaches. While payments have never been safer, criminals have never been smarter. Companies globally are collaborating to address key issues on safety and security. Electronic payments remain one of the safest ways to pay, more so than cash. Myth 2: Cash is a secure, anonymous solution. Truth: Cash is the least secure form of payment because if stolen, it can be used by anyone without any need for authentication. Myth 3: Chip and PIN is a security silver bullet. Truth: There is no silver bullet to completely stop security breaches. However, technology on a payment card has multiple layers of security that help detect and mitigate threats. Chip and PIN technology is just one example of a security layer that helps fight persistent security threats. Myth 4: Security is still the biggest concern that prevents consumers from shopping online. Truth: Shopping online can be a daunting experience for a first-time user, but there are technology advancements such as MasterCard SecureCode that allow online retailers to add another layer of security for transactions by asking the consumer to enter a password. That password is only known by the consumer. Myth 5: When shopping online, the more information I enter, the more secure my purchase. Truth: It’s preferable for online retailers to authenticate an online shopper with the minimum information possible. Ideally, they will request the three digit CVC or Security number on the back of your card to complete a payment. Alternatively, adopting a digital wallet like MasterPass takes the hassle out of repeatedly adding your payment and shipping information, with the benefit of having all the security of your payment card included. Myth 6: Fraudsters can electronically pickpocket your card/device information for identity theft. Truth: There is a clear distinction between identity theft, where a consumer’s identity is assumed by another individual for criminal purposes, and payment card fraud, where a consumer’s card information is compromised and used to make unauthorised purchases. As contactless cards only send a minimal amount of information, there is very little risk of actual identity theft. Myth 7: My spending data can be shared. Truth: All spending data is anonymized and aggregated and cannot be traced back to individuals. If you’re getting cold-calls from unknown salespeople, rest assured that they did not get your details from a technology payment provider. With these common myths ‘busted’, there’s no excuse for you to not adopt the latest payment innovations to make an online purchase. Life is meant to be simple, don’t let myths about fraudsters ruin it. Credit: TechPoingNG http://www.naijahamlet.com/2015/08/7-payment-myths-that-are-totally-untrue.html |
Truecaller called Truemessenger. Essentially it manages your SMS box in a smart way, the same way your email service provider sorts your messages for you. It tracks senders with a bad reputation (spammy senders) and reroutes their messages straight into your spam box. Now you won’t have to constantly check your phone during that board meeting each time it vibrates only to see MTN trying to sell a bible quote to you for N50. Neither would your inbox be so cluttered with unread spam that you miss out on valuable information nor would you get overly anxious over each text message you get while waiting for that credit alert nor would you be sold a bad joke that could end your relationship. Now look at the messages in my spam box Those tiring job interviews I get invited to without even submitting a job application or those messages that want me to subscribe to daily bible quotes when I very much have a bible app that gives me daily bible quotes for free. Unfortunately for iOS users, the app is only available on Android devices because the OS allows for third-party SMS apps, whereas Apple’s iOS platform doesn’t. Visit the Play store and download : Truemessenger http://www.naijahamlet.com/2015/08/are-you-tired-of-unsolicited-sms-and.html |
