Nice. You are good to go then. Okay, you are free to send a PM. shakaz: Thank you. Well, My final year supervisor is in the Bio-instrumentation department and also my final year project is on Bio-instrumentation. Moreover, My department updated our syllables during my set and we did quiet a handful of courses in instrumentation, imaging and control relavant to the field of BME. I have checked most of the listed schools web pages and in some it is even advisable to have your Bsc in a traditional Engineering discipline before applying.
I hope to contact the departments to make inquiry on funding before applying. I would also like to get your opinion on something else. If you don't mind. I will send you a PM |

Good list of schools. Why Biomedical Engineering? Which area in particular? If there is a link between your experience in Electronic and Electrical Engineering and Biomedical, that is fine. That link will be your selling point. As for funding, it is never safe to assume that all schools fund even though that is usually the case. You have a nice list of schools. Six is a good number. I hope you get into your dream school. shakaz: My Final Profile:
Course : Electronic and Electrical Engineering (Bsc) CGPA. : 4.31/5.00 ( 3.6/4.0 using WES conversion) GRE. : 313 ( Q161) AWA 3.5 Toefl. : 101 ( R27 L27 S22 W25)
Work experience: 12 months student internship.
I'm looking at PhD in Biomedical Engineering ( funding is very important)
Schools interested in:
Very ambitious: Northwestern University Duke University Purdue University Pennsylvania State
Ambitious: University of Iowa Boston University University of Buffalo, SUNY TAMU College Station University of California, Davis
Moderate: University of Texas at Dallas University of Arkansas Northeastern University New Jersey Institute of Technology.
I hope to apply to at most 6 schools.

shakaz: I started Preparation with the Manhattan 8 series. After, the manhattan 8 series I was pretty comfortable with the quant questions. However, as with all non-ETS materials there is always a heavy emphasis on abstruse Vocabs on their Sentence Equivalence and Text completion questions, rather than actual sentence structure. This posed another problem for me in the verbal, because I haven’t even started tackling my abysmal comprehension, now TC and SE had added to the pile of verbal problems.
I decided to devote at least 2 weeks on learning vocabs alone. Materials used includes: Barron 1100, Manhattan Essential and advance words, Vocabulary.com, Magoosh Flashcards and supplemented all these with Merriam Webster dictionary.
As at mid June, I was well inundated with the torrent of recondite vocabs in my arsenal ( As evident by the constant complaint from my whatsapp contacts). I went straight up to manhattan TC and SE to prove my Vocab adroitness, and as expected every questions were easy. I thought to myself GRE TC and SE done and dusted ( how naïve I was).
So I set forth to take my second practice test. KAPLAN: After another 3+ hrs of hard labour. My score : Q162 V150. Upon seeing this score I was appalled . Not because of the precision or nearness to my powerprep 1 which is also 312, but on how after learning 1500+ new vocabs and finishing Manhattan 8 series my scores did not improve even a bit. I almost gave up on studying and just take the GRE at the closest possible date, but after reading reviews on Quora on how Kaplan practice test is abnormally difficult and does not really mimic the actual GRE, I dusted myself up and resumed duty…
To be cont’d... Your scores are good, trust me. Congratulations. On the bolded part, learning a lot of vocabs does not improve your score on the new GRE. (The GRE that was introduced from 2011 till date). The test makers claim they are testing a variety of skills of which learning vocabulary is not a key part of it. I agree to a large extent. I think the Manhattan series did not improve your score( in my opinion) because you probably just solved all the questions and went through it. I did the same in my first GRE and scored really poor. When you identity any grey areas in your Math, you find the part of the book(s) that will help you improve. Going through those books is really a tough task and you might even forget many things, as many of what is there do not show up on the test day. Apply the best and apply early. Cheers. |

It depends on the school's admission procedure but it will never hurt to send an email. Majority of the USA schools (I will say 'All' actually) have their Professors emails on their website. Just search more. Josonas: Hello everyone, pls i will like to know if i need to contact a prof.before selecting a Uni.and also how can one get the e-mail address of profs? |

I connected with the Professor via his email. That is the most basic way especially if you are miles away from the school. Just mail any of the Professors in your target schools. As you do that, also read the admission guidelines. These will help you know if it is profiting to contact a professor prior to submitting your application or not. Cutedelly: congratulations! please how were you able to get connected with the prof. please help a prospective student for fall 2019. here is my profile.

The GRE is valid for five years. So as long as you apply within five years of taking the test, you are okay. GoldmanSach: like writing standardized tests in 2018 knowing fully well that one won't apply for fall 2019. Will the test reports to preferred choice of schools still valid whenever one is ready? |

Irrespective of who you register with, on the test day, send your scores to that institution using that code. If you do not do it at that moment, you will have to pay $27 to do it later. opash82: Please I need help in sitting for a GRE Examination.
I received this mail from the school I am applying that "Official GRE score report, sent directly from ETS. Please use school code 6652 to report GRE scores". Does that mean I have to register directly from ETS (via online) or any centre in Nigeria offering GRE examination?
Thank you in advance. |

TAMU CS accepts uploaded transcripts. Sorry, I did not try to discourage you as perceived by someone here. I only wanted you to know the reality on ground and also spread your tentacles. The number of people who apply for certain programs are large that even those with perfect credentials are not offered admission. Petroleum Engineering MS programs at TAMU and UT, Austin are examples of these. As folks here always advise, choose top and averagely ranked schools during the application process. Schrodinger1: Thanks for the numerous info on Oregon @anfieldboss, Qouran, Will do more checking. Should complete all applications by Oct/Nov @spotlighte.
Congrats on your stanford admit+funding @Qouran, quite excited as you are. I've heard about LSU & i'll look into the Texas Tech. However, did you use hard copy T/S for TAMU CS admit? I've PM you.
Thanks Boss scholastica16, the application will be mixture of Msc&PhD. I've contacted Profs. In UMass, Texas(Austin) and Oregon. Will be putting in for more schools but the Hard copy transcript before admit is my worry. |

No, I have been speaking with the Professor for a very long time now. He had limited spaces in his lab. Fortunately, one student dropped (Dude got a GATES Cambridge scholarship) and he offered me the space after I had got my visa for another school. He did assist me with switching on getting to the USA. Admission in Stanford is attached to Funding. No funding from Professors or fellowship,no Admission. Olalekank: Congrats bro!!! Did you gain admission into Stanford before now? |

Hello Guys. I guess everyone has settled in ? For those still trying to getting admission and funding, don't give up. Those of us who have benefited from here will do our best in helping others too.
By the way,I did change my school to Stanford. Remember the guy I was always mailing at Stanford? He was able to get funding for me as one of his prospective students left for Cambridge in the UK. So I'm super elated and glad. Though I wasted some money processing stuff to go to TAMU, I'm optimistic going to Stanford is worth it. |

Education › Re: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by Quoran: 3:59pm On Aug 24, 2018 |
Schrodinger1,let me be honest with you. You need to check your choice of schools again. The first three are extremely competitive. Even with perfect GRE scores nothing is guaranteed. Those are the best schools in the land for Petroleum Engineering. Try Texas Tech ,LSU and Oklahoma also. They are a bit less competitive.
Make sure the other three accept direct PhD. Also check for funding opportunities. All the best. |

You have a good GPA. I really admire those who studied Mathematics. Do you have any research experience aside your UG thesis ? Aside that, why financial Mathematics? From your thesis , you have gained understanding of Applied Mathematics- Fluid Mechanics. That alone is a unique selling point. I may be wrong but Applied Mathematics research is more likely to be funded than Finanical Mathematics. I have seen more funding in that area than even some core engineering disciplines. Also, you can partake in interdisciplinary research which is highly rewarding. It is your choice to make nevertheless. Mathematics is well funded so you just need to search more. What's your GRE score ? Your Quant score should show that Maths is your forte. With that, I don't see anything stopping you from getting your heart desire. Houston17: Recently, a friend told me about funding in US university for international students which I was ignorant about, though I have been searching for such for a while now. Missed out on African Institute for Mathematical Science last year, re-applied this year and not gotten any response yet. To cut the long story short, I just need advice on how to go about schools I can pick and some other tangible information that would be beneficial.
CGPA : 4.56/5.0 Degree: BSc Course: Mathematics Thesis: Semi-analytic Solution of Magnetohydrodynamic Flow of a Third Grade Fluid through a Porous Medium( My supervisor promised to publish it as a local journal but I doubt if he did cos it's like 2yrs now) My research interest is Financial Mathematics.. Pls I need help on schools to look out for, when would be advisable to take GRE and all

1. SPRING - January Admission ; FALL - August Admission 2. They accept applications at anytime of the year. No deadlines. From my own observations, schools with such rolling applications have limited funding. I may be wrong though. Check the faculty members webpages and the graduate admissions page also. 3. Your chances are bright. Start your research early. Know what your target schools want. Do well on the GRE. Read this thread thoroughly ( I know you have started that already!) I really cannot suggest schools to you because Biochemistry it is not my area of interest. All the best. mayort12: Hi everyone, nice work on this thread.
