He should use his official e-mail address for credibility purposes. If he doesn't have, he should use his regular e-mail (Gmail, Yahoo etc)though it won't carry much attention like the official one. I think most of the lecturers like those in UNN have official emails. Official emails are best for recommendation letters. They will definitely carry more weight.

Even with 335 (170 in Quant), One Indian on Gradcafe was lamenting that he didn't get in. Those schools are very competitive.

MIT, stanford are very tough to get into. Those i knew that got in had 330 to 338 in their GRE with strong CGPA. Try lower top schools.

I don't think you are having a tough time because you're switching fields. For a PhD, if you're not a good fit for their research, schools won't offer you admission. If you're going for Internal combustion engines, Computational Fluid Dynamics, biofuels etc, you have to look for schools who have faculty members doing you chosen research area. PhD admission is all about 'best fit'. If you're not a good fit for the department , you will struggle and most departments and faculty members want to avoid these.

Please, retake the GRE and improve your Quant score. There's a possibility that some of the departments you applied to probably didn't even look at your application.Though the GRE is just one of the application materials, most schools nowadays use it to filter applicants.

Though you have to do most of the research yourself, if you specify your research area and Interest, I can help you with a list of schools. Also, when searching, do not search in broad terms. Check individual faculty members pages. Cheers.

Looking to secure a PhD admission in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering .

I applied to 5 universities for Fall 2018 start but got bounced by all, except NYU that requested me to defer in order to provide IELTS/TOEFL for 2019 admission. Cornell rejected because I couldn't get IELTS waiver.

I guess I'm having a though time because I'm switching field to pursue what I really desire, but I know there are some good (ranked) universities that would be good fit for me. People who have sure university information should please share with me so that I can research them on my own.

Personally, I don't think memorising loads of words help so much. With an average understanding of words structure and understanding the question structure itself, you can score many good points. Look at Magoosh frequently used or appearing words.They help alot. I remember seeing the word 'hodgepodge' on my second GRE. I first learned it from Magoosh Android app.

Your understanding of the comprehension passage will definitely increase if you have much time to read the passages and answer the questions. Unfortunately, on the test day, you don't have that luxury. However, with some techniques , you can score well in that section. If you have been a reader of quality literature, you can nail those questions without much stress.

I personally focused on getting most of my sentence equivalent and text completion questions right. With the techniques I learned from Manhattan, I scored well in that area. I deduced that from the official test diagnostics.

Also, do alot of practice test. Kaplan have improved their online tests. They are really close to the actually test questions. The practice test questions are free online. You can do a timed test, set a test on only areas of your weakness or strength also. It is really good and helpful.

Well, people decide whether to share their transcript or not. So, if that is your basis for judgement, it may not paint the true picture.Besides,I think it is still early in the visa application season.

I'm glad someone finally addresses it. If those who started this thread resulted to forming whatsapp groups, we wouldn't have had anything to fall back to. Honestly, I'm yet to see the benefit of having a whatsaapp group. Most times, some people use such groups to brag and show their abilities. You gain little or nothing. Later in the day, I will write some tips and tricks that will aid anyone who desires to score above 160 on the Quant.

Avoid story and heart break! Fill another DS160 application and make sure everything is correct. Then go to your Visa appointment page and change the DS160 number on it. its so simple.... Please don't go to the embassy with the ds160 that does not have your picture oooo.... You dont want to waste your time and loose money at the same time.

Have u submitted? If no, I would advise you avoid stories that touch because whether u upload successfully or not, you would still be required to bring about 2 hard copies with you. The pessure of interview is enough on its own, one does not need anoda extra pressure from little things like Passport photo. I believe you will be fine Sha... I wish you what I always wish myself, SUCCESS!

Thanks. In my case, the system allowed me to proceed without uploading a photo. They simply said I should come along with a passport photo during the interview. I can't edit it again.If I had known, I would have tried to work on the picture before proceeding. The part of the e-mail in the appointment confirmation which talked about uploading a photo before coming for the interview really scarced me.

This is what worked for me, you may do same: After several photo rejections, I went to a photographer and snapped the normal 2inch by 2inch spec which is equivalent to 5cm by 5cm mathematically. Then I asked him to send me a soft copy, though he had to increase the resolution beyond the minimum of 600pixels by 600 pixels ( to around 731pix by 731pix) and this worked perfectly upon upload.

This will usually require the rescheduling of their appointment. The process for uploading photos is easy and is thoroughly explained in our on-line application. Avoid disappointment and delay-upload your photo as part of your visa application!"

Guys, I think we shouldn't just be focusing on getting out of the country. I think we should do it strategically. Think about your employability after the program. There are many of the schools that have been mentioned here that's worse that Unilag, so whats the point of spending ticket and tuition money and going to all these dead schools?

Your profile is good. Congrats on your GRE scores. With your GPA and your GRE scores, you have a variety of options;as many as you can think of. Which schools did you send your scores to?

I'm guessing you're going for Fall/Spring 2019? If so, you have time to research and check alot of schools. If you're going for a masters degree program, you can apply to schools that offer funding in that regard. George Washington, Stevens , New York University,Tandon etc have fellowships for master's degree programs.

If you're going for a PhD, your options are more. Just check out departments that do sufficient research in your area. Also rememeber that you area of interest involves multidisciplinary work, which is a plus, as you can do your research within many departments.

Also you can check publications within your area of interest. Then you can contact the authors or check their department for more details. Just put in some work and you will have a variety of options at the end. Cheers.

I took the test today. The verbal wasn't surprising and my strategy for AWA worked well for me.
Mine was VQVQV. The first quant was a walk in the park for me while the second one was extremely demanding and I couldn't get some questions right. In the end, unofficial scores are V154 and Q163

Anyone who can help? I don't find this GRE verbal section interesting at all.. How do I improve, my exam is on the 2nd of July. I can't even comprehend any passage when I read them less of picking out what the author might be saying... My sentence completion is also poor. I have learnt the strategies but vocabularies are just too much and I forget too quick...

The Quant section is getting more interesting.. I had my first simulation before reading and got a score of 153 in d quant section. I know I will improve to a higher score before d test.

Permit me to say praise the Lord "Hallelujah". I have been following this thread religiously for some time now. But somehow I have refused to share my GRE experience because of my low score.

Prior to my GRE exam I was very optimistic; I believed my minimum score would be 325 dint of my preparation and my practice test scores. However, I got a mediocre score 315. It destabilize me, because I had no contingency plans. My TOEFL score was low too very low. (I dey shame to post am self).

My initial school list was: MIT, UIUC, TAMU, Uni of Texas, Austin and UTK (ESE program at Bredesen Center).

After replying the emeritus of my willingless to accept the lab instructor position, He later requested for my CV and transcripts and I forwarded to him. Just few minutes ago, He asked me to submit my application ASAP so as to get my visa before resumption date. He also asked me to send a mail to another Prof. that I am the same Person as Stella I. on my transcript against Stella A. that is on my email address. He mentioned that he recommended Stella A. for graduate school before seeing Stella I. on my transcript. Finally, He said I should be ready for skype interview anytime soon. I am scared of what to expect during skype interview because I have never done such before.
