Travel › Re: Are Nigerians Abroad Really Better off Than Their Home Based Counterparts? by r231(m): 3:32pm On Sep 17, 2009 |
aysometin: I keep saying this:
What is my definition of a 'better life'??
A better life for me is a life of comfort with basic amenities/utilities of life, electricity, water, health care, good transport systems, good education etc
A life where I have the ability to meet most of my needs and still have some to save.( it's rare to have emergencies, I can plan)
A life where I don't have to derive an heart attack from the state of the nation and the greed of it's leaders. (Different negative stories everyday)
A life where my hardwork would lead to success and not via connection 'man know man'
A life where I don't have to sleep with one eye wide awake.
A life where i dont have to worry about accidental discharge from the police
A life where I don't have to spend countless hours of my time in traffic with fear of being attacked my hoodlums and robbers.
I could go on and on
I would rather live on the little I have here with peace of mind.
Money is not everything. God bless you |
Crime › Re: Nigerian Man Killed His Only Son For Being Stubborn by r231(m): 12:38pm On Sep 17, 2009 |
Yumi: Yep the difference is when it happens in the Western world its called child abuse and the man is publicly condemmed. In Nigeria there needs to be a clear message sent out that child abuse, lying and cheating on your wife and even fraud or not funny or things that are ok or tongue in cheek. I have seen lots of kids beaten so bad its abuse, especially house girls and house boys who have to live with relatives and are at their mercy. Its sickening and if it was in Western world I am not saying it doesn't happen but when it does there is a public outcry and it is condemmed. you are very rite. I actually knw someone dat brought their housegirl or whatever they want to call her to UK den started beating and doing all sort of things to her. one day she just spoke to a friend of the family about it and before you knw it police and social services got involved and they where locked up for child abuse and social service have to move the girl away frm them they are still going to court for it up till now. |

chaircover: You cant really generalise on a topic like this and a lot of issues need to be considered.
Your success abroad can depend on the type of visa you travel on, your qualifications, your personality, your background, age etc.
Please bear in mind also that good living is not only what you take home at the end of the month. Good living covers a lot of other areas such as good healthcare, good schools, good infrastructure etc
Agreed, we do pay a lot of bills here, but I am happy to pay them because I can see what the money is spent on.
My son attends one of the best Grammar Schools, I don't pay any school fees but an equivalent quality school in Nigeria will cost a parent millions of Naira each year.
Like for like, I probably spent more on fuel to keep my gen running 24/7 for the 1 week I was in Nigeria 2 weeks ago, than my electricity bill would have cost me over here.
As one poster said; it depends on what you consider good quality of life. good point |

naijamark: I regard this thread as an insult to the Nigerian person or indeed a real African. You must only be a bastard to so much degrade our culture. Tribal mark is our culture. The Europeans you want to be, the Europeans you feel better eating their food, wearing their cloths and singing their songs are so protective of their own culture. Because an European does not wear tribal marks doesn't mean it's bad or barbaric. Infact the lady in question should be proud of herself. Those days, only poor people go about with faces like wall (without marks), these days, a wall face is a symbol of a de-culturised fellow. Thanks. mmmmm, why don't you just direct your comment to the person that srt the thread |

otukpo: For a girl/guy to do all those things listed in the original post, that relationship is more than GF/BF thing.
And for girls to be doing the guy's laundry
For the guy to be paying all her bills, accompany her to parties, take her and her GF's out
Then for the girl to satisfy the need on (6) that shld be cohabitation which many of us have condemned on this forum.
Uju U try sha but that's too much on both sexes for a mere GF/BF r/ship true |

bouzymill: U guys should understand something. Kanye West started all this immediately his mother died and lost his girlfriend plus started getting lawsuit anyhow. Punched Paprazi, Punch that, punch this, Booed this Booed that. Noticed it all when he brought out 808s and heartless. He started smoking and at a point he almost cursed his fame. There's always a turn in one's life like that when you start misbehaving as a result of too much fuckups. All he needs is someone to pull him back cos his girlfriend can't help him. AMBER can't think for herself let alone help Kanye. He only needs help sincerely.
Plus, he didn't disgrace his race, he disgraced himself cos after he did that, Beyonce who belongs in his race tried to put things back . So Kanye is Kanye. what more do u expect from a college drop out |
