The problem of Nigeria is vivid. Even the less-lettered man on the street feels that something is not right with Nigeria. If it was natural, we'd say it is uncontrollable but, corruption, poverty and the ever-growing rate of unemployment are man-made. God gave us a brain but, we chose to do evil to ourselves. We cannot blame God. ![]()

No need to lose sleep over what is already staring us in the face. I think the probability of qualifying is still there though, very slim. What is important is for the NFF to re-evaluate and reflect on the sorry case. They should start now to plan on how to turn this shame around. Yes, it is a big shame for Nigeria as a defending champion to be in this predicament.

God bless you, man. You seem to have good wishes for your family. |
Not to sound one-sided but, I think these words have something to do with Lagos. It is widely used there, i think. Slangs or colloquial languages help to better express your self while talking. The colloquial words are not of the standard English language but, it makes communication easy at least, among the general environment like market place or some other informal environment.

Considering how timid you were, did you date during your university days? I couldn’t ask women out during my undergraduate days. I was that timid; but I did have two failed relationships. My past relationships haunted me and I decided not to have anything to do with women, concentrating instead on my academic career and stage plays. I was part of Comic Palace Production, where Yinka Akanni, Muyiwa Amodu were my colleagues in 2002. I used to do a one-man drama as that was the only way I could express myself. I met my wife, Olaide Saidat (Oyetoro) in AOCOED and finally got married at the age of 40. My wife was a final year student when I first met her and for me, it was love at first sight. She had come to my office for something and I got her name down. Later, I spoke to her saying, beyond being her lecturer I would like to be her friend. She said okay, thinking I was unserious. What attracted me to Olaide was that she looked humble and appeared to be a good Muslim. She is a graduate of mathematics and has made a great home for me and our two kids. I love her so much. My friend, Gbenga Iwindapo aided in assuring her that I was the man for her. God has given me a woman who shares my vision. I don’t joke with my family. ![]() source: http://leadership.ng/entertainment/386748/woo-women-undergraduate-years-saka

Hafiz Oyetoro popularly known as Saka, has certainly become a Nollywood icon. The actor cum lecturer has built a career in entertainment spanning three decades, getting his start at the University of Ibadan. The MTN I Don Port brand ambassador speaks with Samuel Abulude about his grass to grace story, his personal life and how he was fortunate to have been tutored by the best hands in Nigerian theatre. What has Saka been up to lately? I have been acting and imparting my students at Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education (AOCOED). I have been travelling around, doing what I love doing for decades now. My production titled We We, a TV comedy series with my students, is still in the works as a fire outbreak in my office destroyed the scripts and other vital documents. However, it should be out before the end of the year. I also compose songs; apart from TV commercials that I’m known for. We just did the MTN Yello jingle last month and as regards movies, they are numerous. I was part of a movie by Afiz Owo and Abelejayan, the sociopolitical comedy will be back soon with fresh episodes. How was growing up like? I hail from Adegbola-Iseyin in Iseyin town, Oyo State. I was born to Pa Dauda Oyetoro and my mother, Abike Oyetoro. I am the 4th out of 10 kids and I am the only child of my mother. I attended Baptist Day Secondary School, Iseyin. From there I gained admission to University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University, to study Dramatic Arts. Now I have an M A in African Studies from the University of Ibadan and a post graduate degree from Lagos State University (LASU). I’m presently pursuing my doctorate- M Phil Literature of African Studies at the University of Ibadan. Growing up in a village setting was a bitter-sweet experience. I grew up in the home of an uncle who drove fear into me when correcting my mistakes. My uncle misconstrued respect as creating fear and I became so timid that I carried that baggage into the university. So ,on the Ife campus, I was a loner and could not socialise. In my year two or so, we needed to do a departmental stage production and I was given a role, but because of my usual timidity-I could not deliver and this became a concern for me. E pass stage fright my broda. Thankfully, one of my lecturers, Chuck Mike, an African American scholar, came to my rescue. Mr Mike, a revered threatre practitioner in the 80s, tutored and mentored me and many others. He took me to University of Ibadan for speech therapy and I had to see a speech expert- Mrs Ajayi- every Saturday. In 1986, I was part of a departmental production tagged ‘A toast to Wole Soyinka’. My first major production was in UI and it was a stage play titled, Raisin In the Sun. Wole Obadeyi, Yinka Akanbi and Gbenga Iwindapo were my colleagues then. The first theatre group I was part of was Akewi-Ebedi Theatre Group. For my final year project, I looked at theatre in Nigeria using Babasala as my case study. I met him at Orisun Cinema in Abeokuta. I appeared in my first home video during my 300 level as a student and was paid N1, 500- big money then. see more: http://leadership.ng/entertainment/386748/woo-women-undergraduate-years-saka

Afam4eva:Thanks. I've been looking for this way to explain it all along. China is certainly a force to be reckoned with. However, there is a rather lopsided development in the Chinese economy. Yes, they may have a maximized National output and a much expanded method of manufacturing but, the life of an Average Chinese National is still not better off. I am not saying that there everybody in the USA is rich but, there is something called welfare and that works better in the USA than in China. Certainly, the USA has almost reached its peak in terms of development while China still has a lot more potential in this area. |

What would have been a major tragedy in Nigeria’s military circles was yesterday narrowly averted, when a military aircraft crashed at the Yola International Airport. Though the aircraft was damaged, no casualties were recorded as the pilot and other crew members escaped unhurt. Newly sworn in governor of Adamawa State, Mr. Bala Ngillari was among those who were stranded at the airport, following the incident. The incident affected the departure of the governor who was billed to depart for Abuja on an official assignment. LEADERSHIP Weekend gathered that the aircraft was on a mission to convey injured soldiers from Yola to Kaduna State for treatment before the unfortunate incident. The incident occurred at about midday when the aircraft was yet to carry the wounded soldiers. The airplane was on the verge of landing at the international airport when it suddenly changed direction and crashed causing pandemonium in the vicinity, a source at the airport said. A military source who preferred anonymity told newsmen that the military aircraft was on a mission to airlift wounded soldiers from Yola to Kaduna when the incident occurred. He however dismissed the accident as a minor one, saying the aircraft only suffered mild damage. The incident, according to airport sources, delayed landing and take-off of other airplanes as some of them had to be diverted to other airports. As at the time of filing this report, normalcy had returned at the airport as full activities had resumed. Airport officials have however maintained sealed lips over the incident as they said it was strictly a military affair. SOURCE: http://leadership.ng/news/386679/military-aircraft-crashes-yola

Dear Sir, OPEN LETTER TO GENERAL BUHARI I have been constrained to write you through the media because I do not have an alternative way of reaching you. Permit me to share my opinion on your presidential ambition, which I think is equally shared by many Nigerians of my generation irrespective of ethnic or religious differences. Sir, I heard about you first on the 31st of December 1983. Then I was a ten year old boy in primary six, celebrating with the whole nation on the arrival of our military Heroes. At least so we thought! The jubilations were spontaneous. The nationwide celebrations signalled the demise of the second republic and ushered in the military dispensation commonly referred to as the Buhari/Idiagbon regime. Immediately you launched the War Against Indiscipline and introduced the Nationwide Monthly Sanitation Exercise. The WAI crusade stuck in my brain and still reverberates up till now. To simplify the message my Teacher introduced an Igbo acronym for WAI: Wepu Ajo Ihe; which literally translates: Remove Bad Thing. Sir, I must confess that the image that stuck in me about Buhari/Idiagbon was that of two no-nonsense characters, straight talkers, people who meant yes when they said yes and vice versa. This impression I believe was equally shared by many others in my generation. Today, I am a 41 year old Nigerian. A lot has changed. I see things differently now. I am now a fully grown man who can analyse issues critically. One thing I believe passionately is that it is very important for one to set a standard for oneself, but equally more important to sustain the standard. On the final lap of your presidential campaign for 2011, you made an open declaration in front of the media and your supporters, without mincing words you stated emphatically that 2011 would be your last attempt to contest the Presidency. Going by your legacy and standard, many People including I took you by your words. After all Buhari means yes when he says yes. However that promise was short lived. Before one can say Jack Robinson you have joined the race again for the fourth consecutive time, contrary to your open declaration. see more: http://leadership.ng/features/386632/open-letter-general-muhammadu-buhari

atbu1983:I am making my comparison with China not Norway, Luxembourg, Kuwait or Qatar. I also stand by my statement that China does not have a better standard of living than the USA. |
abbakacici:Is China a developed country? |
okotv:Thank you. Someone is calling China. The USA has a higher living standard, a higher education standard and takes care of its citizens better. As for statistics, it is the same that relates Nigeria to the biggest economy in Africa. Figures without real substance ![]()

This Nigeria is one big circus. I can remember this same Minister Wike being the FG agent that was used to lie to ASUU and make incredible promises. It was this same man that assumed the position of 'Pharoah' in the education sector. See the end result, the education sector is improving in retrogression. I mean, what will you call some universities that still cannot graduates students on scheduled time?

AFTER the over two weeks of extra holiday as a result of the deadly Ebola Virus Disease, EVD, schools in ten States resumed yesterday. The States include: Lagos, Oyo, Rivers, Benue, Ekiti, Kano, Kogi, Akwa-Ibom, Ebonyi, and Ogun. Meanwhile, Kwara State Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Saka Onimago has directed both public and private schools in the state to open October, 15. He noted that the extention was to enable the state acquire necessary equipment and organise seminar for stakeholders. Moreover, public school teachers in Ekiti have maintained that until the state government pays their two months salary arrears, no teacher should go to the classroom. It will be recalled that the National Executive Council of Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, while countering government’s directive, had called on its members to ignore the September 22 resumption date, saying the date was not realistic in view of what was required to prevent the outbreak of Ebola in the schools. NUT’s National President, Mr. Michael Olukoya, said schools in various states would remain shut until adequate preparations had been made by the state governments for resumption, as teachers were not ready to endanger their lives and those of the school children when necessary preventive and protective measures had not been put in place. Situation report: A visit to some schools in Lagos, Osun and Ogun states revealed that the contentious preventive measures, like running water and hand sanitisers had been provided at the entrances and other strategic places of schools. see more: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/10/ebola-finally-10-states-resume-nationwide/

Kaduna State Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero yesterday declared his gubernatorial ambition ahead of the 2015 general elections under the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Governor Yero is the first sitting governorship to declare interest in seeking for re-election in 2015. He submitted his letter of intention to contest the governorship seat amidst thousand of party faithful including members of the House of Assembly and members of the state executive council. Yero who was at the Kaduna State secretariat of Peoples Democratic Party to formally handover the letter to the party chairman, Abubakar Haruna said the decision to contest was informed by pressure mounted on him by people to run. According to him, he had to accept the clarion call because of the need to consolidate on the relative peace achieved in the state under his administration. “I can’t say no to the wishes of the people when they called on me to contest. It would be a great disservice to them”, Yero stated. In his remarks after receiving the letter from the governor, the party chairman said the party members are happy now that he has finally signified interest to contest. Meanwhile, Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero has finally released 50 per cent of the 2013 Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme (SURE-P) funds out of the total money accrued to the 23 local government areas of the state. The chairman of Chibok community in Abuja, Tsambido Hosea-Abana has lamented the abandonment of the Chibok community by the federal government and its emergency agency, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), saying they failed to offer assistance to the community since the current insecurity, which has greatly affected the community began. Speaking to LEADERSHIP yesterday, Mr Abana noted that since the wreaking of havoc and abduction of schoolgirls in Chibok, the federal government has refused to offer any assistance to the community. The chairman, however, explained that some days before the visitation of the presidential fact-finding committee on the abducted schoolgirls to Chibok, some NEMA officials brought a few bags of rice and garri and dumped them carelessly in the village, where some people packed them. He said, “It has become so bad that even the government has refused to help us out. We are pleading for help so that those who are really affected by this insurgency would benefit from whatever help that may come from government”. Meanwhile, the spokesperson for NEMA, Sanni Datti has described as misleading, the allegation that NEMA abandoned Chibok. While responding to the above allegation, Datti told our reporter that Chibok has benefited immensely from NEMA’s intervention. He also noted that an evidence of the agency’s intervention could be seen on http://sanidatti..com/; NEMA facebook page or even on a visit to its Abuja headquarters where proof can be obtained. Datti further noted that the agency has also held a meeting with the finance minister and concluded plans to send more relief materials to Chibok. The Nigerian Navy yesterday in Lagos said it impounded over 2,000 gallons of petroleum products from some suspected vandals’ hideout at Majidun in Ikorodu, Lagos State. The products, which were concealed in 50 litres jerry cans were lifted from the hideout by the Navy. The Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, Rear Adm. Ilesanmi Alade, told newsmen that the operation, which took his men sleepless nights, was carried out following a tip-off from the public. He said: “As you may be aware the federal government has been confronted with the challenges of combating illegal oil bunkering and pipeline vandalism. “These illegal activities have not only led to significant loss in revenue accruable to the federal government, but also caused damage to strategic installations which require colossal amount of money to repair. “Pipeline vandalism has also led to pollution of the maritime environment and in some cases, fire disasters resulting in loss of lives and property. “Communities like Majidun, Arepo, Ogolonto and Makoko in Ikorodu Local Government area of Lagos State are renowned for illegal oil bunkering and pipeline vandalism. “The perpetrators use self-propelled barges and wooden boats to ferry the stolen products to their destinations. “They are also usually armed to confront anyone that attempts to stop their operation.’’ Alade said the operation, code-named “AWATSE,” which literally means ‘scatter,’ was aimed at dislodging the perpetrators of the illegal act. “The operation was initiated by the Nigerian Navy and supported by the Nigerian Army and it is still ongoing. “The operation has yielded success and so far.Persons arrested after interrogation and confirmed as culprits, would be handed over to the appropriate prosecuting agency. “The products will be handed over to the Pipeline and Products Marketing Company (PPMC) for storage, pending termination of the operation,’’ he said.
