Former head of state, General Muhammadu Buhari, will on Wednesday, October 15, 2014 formally declare his presidential interest on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) instead of declaring today as earlier scheduled. The declaration is expected to take place at the Eagle Square, Abuja. In preparation for the presidential primaries which have been dubbed the battle of the titans on the grounds of others formidable contestants, Buhari has appointed former national chairman of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Audu Ogbeh, as the director of his campaign organisation. Others in the race with Buhari include former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, state governors Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano), Rochas Okorocha (Imo) and Adams Oshiomole (Edo), and founding chairman, LEADERSHIP Group, Sam Nda -Isaiah and a few others. Although Buhari told his supporters last week in Abuja of his intention to run for the presidency for the fourth time, he did not disclose the date because of the party’s grand rally for governorship poll holding in Yola today. The new date of Buhari’s declaration was announced yesterday in a terse statement by Ogbeh who gave no reason for the shift in date. Another reason given by some of his foot soldiers was to enable some of his supporters who travelled to Mecca for the holy pilgrimage to return. The statement reads in part, “The Buhari Presidential Campaign Organization has announced that the formal declaration ceremony by General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.) of his intention to contest the 2015 presidential election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been postponed for one week.” SOURCE: http://leadership.ng/news/386372/buhari-declares-presidential-interest-oct-15

While Bill Gates and Carlos Slim may be great investors, they are both older than Dangote. I think Dangote is going to be the richest person in the world very soon.

A fierce battle is ongoing between Boko Haram insurgents and Nigerian troops who have been intensifying efforts to reclaim territories captured by the insurgents in northern Adamawa. Reports indicate that about 100 insurgents have been killed in the latest offensive as Nigerian troops forced the terrorists out of Michika town which had been under their bloody grip for close to a month. The Nigerian troops are reportedly advancing towards Gulak in consolidation of the successes they have recorded but the insurgents were reported to have regrouped and launched an offensive against them, leading to the fierce battle between the two sides. A source in Michika said Nigerian troops had entered the town following a phenomenal success they recorded against the insurgents who suffered severe casualties, forcing the surviving ones beat a retreat. see more: http://leadership.ng/news/386290/troops-reclaim-michika-kill-100-boko-haram

Health Minister, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu was on Tuesday adopted by the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) alongside other major stakeholders of the party from the three geo-political zones of Ebonyi State as the consensus governorship candidate of the party ahead of next year’s general election. Prof. Chukwu’s endorsement followed a closed door stakeholders’ meeting of Ebonyi North and Central senatorial zones convened by the leader of the party, Governor Martin Elechi at the Government House, Abakaliki. The meeting lasted more than two hours according to a source at the meeting. The endorsement of the former Chief Medical Director of Ebonyi State University Teaching Hospital, laid to rest the speculation of a possible consensus candidate of the party in the 2015 election. The acting governor of Taraba State, Alhaji Garba Umar, has disclosed that his principal, Governor Danbaba Danfulani Suntai, is missing. Umar, who stated this yesterday in Jalingo during a media chat with journalists, said that he had not set his eyes on his boss, Governor Suntai, since he was smuggled into the country by a certain cabal. “Few of my aides and I were already at the domestic wing of the airport to receive my boss but, unknowingly to me, the cabal was already waiting at the international wing of the airpot where the plane conveying my boss was directed to land. When I got to know that the plane landed at the international wing, I rushed to the place to receive him, but he was in a jeep which immediately drove him to T.Y. Danjuma Lodge,” he said. He added that the cabal, which surrounded the ailing Suntai, was holding him hostage in order to hold onto power to the detriment of his health. He called on citizens of state to eschew religious differences and work towards unity in the state. “I thank God this year’s sallah was peaceful; peace has returned to some of the crisis areas in the state. And I have also constituted a reconciliation committee to ensure that those who fled their homes because of crisis return,” he noted. He assured sons and daughters of the state that his administration would continue to work to ensure that all Tarabans enjoys the dividend of democracy. However, a former commissioner for information in the state, Mr. Emmanuel Bello, told LEADERSHIP on phone that Suntai was not missing. He explained that governor Suntai was doing well and would soon return to the state to continue his business of governance. “Since our dear governor returned from his medical trip, he has been at the Governor’s Lodge, otherwise called T.Y. Danjuma House, located at Asokoro in Abuja,” Bello said. He stressed that the acting governor, Umar, was only waiting for this tenure to elapse, and that after the expiration of Suntai’s administration that brought him as deputy governor, he would pack his luggage out of Government House. Efforts to speak with Governor Suntai’s senior special adviser on media and publicity, Mr. Slyvanus Giwa, were futile as his telephone lines were not going through at the time of filing this report. source: http://leadership.ng/news/386286/taraba-acting-governor-declares-suntai-missing

dabossman:It is in the interest of a wise person to seek for more wisdom. Also, learning keeps the soul young. You can keep abreast of politics by reading newspapers; many of organizational skills are learnt on the job. You might never have learnt such from school. However, not all information is relevant. It is advisable to read wide but to study hard on relevant areas and then skim through the rest. One thing I have learnt from my many years of education is that learning actually takes time so, it is important to direct your collective on the areas that will have more impact on your life. Use a cost-benefit analysis to decipher information. |
rodeo0070:Pitifully, all and sundry in the position to drive education to the el dorado, have lackadaisically acted. The society is not going to do everything for itself rather, it is the duty of the government to provide infrastructure. it is only when the government does something drastic about this shame that there will be a real change.

Kampala (AFP) - A hospital technician has died of the Ebola-like Marburg virus in Kampala, the Ugandan government announced on Sunday. The man, aged 30, died in the Mengo hospital where he worked in the capital of the east African country on September 28, 11 days after falling ill, the authorities said. Tests confirmed the presence of the disease two days later. The Marburg virus is one of the most deadly known pathogens. Like Ebola, it causes severe bleeding, fever, vomiting and diarrhoea. The victim's brother and one other person he was in contact with have so far "developed signs" of the disease, the ministry of health said in a statement. "So far, a total of 80 people who got into contact with the initial confirmed case have been identified and isolated" for the 21-day incubation period, it added. "These include 38 health workers from Mengo hospital and 22 health workers from Mpigi Health Center IV." Like Ebola, the Marburg virus is transmitted via contact with bodily fluids and fatality rates range from 25 percent to 80 percent. Uganda's Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda said the government could deal with any outbreak. "Uganda has previously successfully handled similar situations of health threats involving hemorrhagic fevers," he wrote on Twitter. A Marburg outbreak in Uganda in October 2012 killed 10 people, about half of those who were confirmed infected with the disease. The Ebola epidemic that has been raging in west Africa has so far claimed almost 3,500 lives, with Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone worst hit. Researchers announced in August that a drug developed by Canada's Tekmira Pharmaceuticals helped monkeys survive the deadly Marburg infection in tests. http://news.yahoo.com/man-dies-ebola-marburg-virus-uganda-212501930.html

A good gesture changes for the better, those around you. That is what this teacher did. It takes courage to undertake this action and I really do commend her for what she did. The children in that school will not forget her in a hurry. God bless you, ma! |
Countless posts have suggested that the initial poster may have stated some erroneous views but, it is an obvious idea to make a social relationship legal at least, in this case of marriage. It has been said over and over again that the customary/traditional marriage is the basic and more recognized form of marriage between families and in-laws. It is also without ado that the world is going global so, some infiltration such as divorce, separation, etc. have permeated into the Nigerian society. It is as a result of these infiltration that every marriage or social relationship should be recognized by law as well. |
Rehil: Tanx for dis wonderful summary of d worms eatin up our fabric of education.may God help us n bless uA sad situation. Hopefully, we will get to the promised land. |

I've always known that 'my names are' isn't a standard English sentence but, the way I hear it among people makes music to my ears. |
ejiro2130: You said it all Bro, I remember last year hundreds of Chinese where arrested in Ghana they where running illegal gold mines imagine how much they where making in this poor country well the country collected 30,000 dollars bail from men that made over a hundred million illegally from the countryHow sad! ![]() |
OP, the President will continue to be sad because the average Nigerian has learnt to doubt everything the government says. He or she has no trust in the capabilities of the FG either. As days go by, we can hardly understand or define the role of the President, the duties of the Governors and Ministers in our dear country. It is so sad that the Center is the core of all our problems. |
Ever since the PDP split into Amaechi and Jang factions, peace has been walking on a tightrope. I just hope this doesn't cause some skirmishes in Plateau State. |
lomaxx: My problem with some Nigerians is that they cannot live their lives(meagre as it may be) without drawing unnecessary inferences from the lives of other people. If a young man chooses to buy a #100k phone and beg for #20 bread, that is his business. If you bought a used Tecno phone and you're making all the money in the world with it - congratulations! But if Mr Johnson decides to buy the iPhone 6 plus and still uses a cab, that is his business.Very rational and straight to the point. By the way, there is no hard and fast rule in the subject of human beings. We're all different. |
NTA still using dat 19th century camera. I thought that they would've archived this archaic mode of operation too. Anyway, Happy 54th Birthday to my dear country, Nigeria! |
I read through all you say and i didn't see where you consulted your parents. Maybe, you need to talk to your parents first or if they aren't available, consult an older relative. God bless you. |
Many Nigerians have been murdering the Queen's English since 'Hay Chebe...Hay Chebe' which supposedly, was 'Apes Obey'. One of the ravaging relics of the British Colonialists. Some mistake riddled sentences and phrases are as follows: 1) John, please boil hot water for me to bath. If it is hot, why do you want to boil it again? 2) Your's Faithfully This should be 'Yours faithfully' |
It is an abstract reduction. The real rate of poverty can be felt on the filthy streets of Nigerian cities, towns and villages not from the air conditioned offices, our so called leaders stay in to make pronouncements like this. ![]() |
crispgg: Why don't you visit the Institute of Tropical Agriculture in Ibadan? If apples can be grown here I'm sure they will know about it.I think apples can be grown if careful research is promoted. |
HML, Blessing. God bless your home. |
bebe2: even without degree,I respect ur opinion, madam. Nigerian Government is so far apart from its citizens. Maybe, if they could listen to their plight. These negativity will all change |
