PoliticsEthnic Group Of The Niger Delta In Nigeria|ijaw by r4bbit(op):
---------------THE IJAW TRIBE OF NIGERIA

they've been some sot of confusion about the population of the ijaw tribe of nigeria
hope this references may point some light.

The Ethnic group of the Niger Delta in Nigeria; also known as ijaw.
Living in a region covered with mangrove swamps and
frequently flooded fields, the ijaws have for centuries combined fishing and agriculture as their main economic activities. According to law legend, all ijaw descend from a
‘Common ancestor who arrived in the Niger Delta in the
fifteenth century. Many anthropologists believe, however,
that the Ijaw are made up of formerly autonomous village
‘Groups who may have lived in the area longer than any
‘Other local ethnic group. Their language is distinct from
those of their neighbors

In addition to fishing, farming, and collecting palm oil,
the ijaw manufactured sale by leaching it from seawater
that flowed into the Niger River delta. During the African
SALT TRADE the ijaw developed experience as traders.
‘They later used these trading skills, becoming influential
brokers in the transatlantic slave trade European demand
also created a vast market for palm oil, and some ijaw
traders built vast fortunes from the trade. Economies and
regional pressures forged a sense of identity among the
ijaw people, uniting formerly autonomous villages behind
such larger communities as Calabar, Bonny, and Nemke.
To some extent, traders replaced kings ijaw leaders, and
even some former slaves gained prominence.
During the mid-twentieth century, life changed drastically for ijaws. The discovery of natural gas and oil in their land brought the ijaw, with the rest of NIGERIA, into contact with multinational corporations. Oil bought some new jobs to the delta region; however, its inhabitants Felt
Increasingly oppressed by the oil! companies and the
destruction of the local fishing economy that came wit
petroleum production. In the late 1990s and early 20008
some of the ijaw, especially young people, openly revolted
against major oil companies and sabotaged oil operations in order to take back resources that they viewed as their birthright. Population figures for the ijaw vary widely, though it’s possible that as many as 15 million people belong to that group.

Encyclopedia of Africa, Volume 1
A current location for over 7,000 years. Their
language has no immediate cognates,
which helps support the idea that they
speak a unique language called Izon and
belong to the Ijoid family of the Niger-
Congo phylum, some Ijaw claim they originated in Upper Egypt while others say in
South Africa. They number over 14 million
people, or 10 percent of Nigeria’s population, and are broken up into a number of subgroups, including the Ibanji, Okrika
Kalabari, Nemba, Akassa, and Defka.

British colonization of the ijaw took
place between 1884 and 1894 as different
states were forced to agree to be British
protectorates. It took until 1902 to bring
the whole of the Delta area under British
control with the defeat of the Igbo. Many
of the [jaw converted to Christianity and
sought better jobs through education.
Nigeria became independent in 1960
and became a republic in 1963. The crisis
of the Biafra War from 1967 to 1970
greatly impacted all of the southern part
of Nigeria, though the ijaw did not support
the Igbo attempt for independence. ijaw
“rebellion” began later with the discovery
of oil in their part of the country. Feeling
denied most of the financial benefits
of the oil monies, they have become
embroiled in conflict with the government.
While they are able to take advantage of
higher-paying jobs, they have not seen

-----------The Population of ijaws in nigeria varies ,but it is now estimated to be around 10% of the country's population
in the year 2006 Nigeria population is 142.5million meaning the ijaws then was about 14.25milln
---2016 nigeria was 186milln hence ijaws 18.6 million
last population check is 2019 -and nigeria is 201 million therefore the ijaws are 20.1million in population
remember am using the 10% as a refrence the dis value may vary a bit.

the are currently about 51 ijaw related clans in nigeria ... go and search it yourself.
TODAY ijaws relation can be found in rivers, cross rivers, edo, ondo, delta, bayelsa, gabon, sierra leone
their hometown is bayelsa but THEY have denser populatioin in Niger delta of Nigeria .

We all know that: if pdp dont bring a southern presidential candidate and there is no new party, tinubu will win the next election...
Infact , even if pdp brings a southerner -- the chances of dem winning is still two coin face(50|50)

you may not want to accept this, but unfortunately it the truth..
The sooner we face the possibility ..the less suprising tings get .

I swear on God who made me, in all my years of staying abroad, I've only met one Ijaw person and that was far back in the USA during my Junior college year, one pretty girl like that. Apart from her, I've never seen any Ijaw person again... The Nigerians you are more than likely to meet and interact with anywhere in the diaspora are Igbos, Yorubas, Edo, and Efik/Ibibios in that particular order... the best way to ascertain if a tribe has a huge population is through the diasporan numbers of that ethnic demography... so when you put all these into consideration, you'll know there's absolutely no way Ijaw people are 15 million people, Efik/Ibibio definitely have more population than them abeg.
undecided
Just because you only met one of them?
Sorry that can't be use as a criteria...
PoliticsRe: How Come Ijaws Are 15million People? by r4bbit: 4:30pm On Jul 27, 2021
That is a cumulative population value...
Didnt you read what you post ?

Why use only bayelsa as case study:
Where your post clearly mentioned, ondo, edo, rivers state and even countries like west Sierra Leone and east Gabon....

To add to your post ijaw languages include; Izon, Kalabari, Obolo, Ibani, Wakirike, Nkoroo, Nembe, Ogbian, Kabou, Buseni, Atala, Bille, Kula, Apoi, etc.

So there is no need to start another tribalistic thread.

ultiabaz36:
There is a rumor flaming around the internet that the IPOB leader is dead. It occurred to me that some people will just sit at the extreme edge of their cubicle and start thinking upside-down. I don't know who initiated the trend anyways but I believe the person must be up to something. And since I came across the news pronouncing IPOB leader dead, all the comments under those posts are worrisome, then I asked myself this question that will heaven fall if Nnamdi Kanu is truly dead?

Truth be told, the present Nigeria government does not send us. If anybody tries any shit, they will use every strategy to bring such individual or group down. Let us not forget why the word GOVERNMENT starts with letter G. Government is just like a small god on earth just like God, Who is Omniscience.

What Nnamdi Kanu and Igboho are fighting for should be initiated by the people we voted to represent us at Abuja. They are the right people to start the struggle from there. But reverse is the case so far Mallam settles them with Dollars they will eventually keep shut.

But at this juncture, I just want to pray that God will protect NK and Igboho so they can be freed.

My incessant prayer for those inflicting pains on Nigerians remain the same and that prayer is that the money you wicked people want to make at the expense of poor Nigerians, you will make it but you will end up spending that money on severe sickness both you and your family
Your answer is No....
The gate fit chake smor... But heaven will not fall.....

All these stupid Yoruba Satans, that won't make your life better. If Nnamdi kanu spend the rest of his life in jail, it won't bring better Nigeria. It won't stop the jihadists from sahel from conquering the rest of southern Nigeria. You miserable idiots hasn't learnt anything from southern Kaduna and Benue state. Yes tinubu is very possible to become the president come 2023, thereafter, another Fulani herdsman will take over with jihadist motive. One day, you or your lovely relative will be a victim of what Nnamdi kanu and igboho is fighting against. Certainly,it shall come to pass.
Why bring yorubas into this? The Op is your target... Let it stay that way
