Facebook accuses people tied to French military of running troll accounts targeting parts of Africa

New York (CNN)Facebook accused people linked to the French military on Tuesday of running a covert online influence operation targeting parts of Africa. It is the first time Facebook has publicly linked a campaign like this to individuals connected to a Western military.

The deceptive tactics allegedly used, which include using Facebook to pose as locals in the targeted countries, mirror misinformation campaigns run by the Russian government.
Facebook staff told reporters on a press call Tuesday that the company could not say if the operation was directed by the French military itself -- they only said it was run by "individuals associated" with the military.
According to Facebook, the operations targeted the "Central African Republic and Mali, and to a lesser extent Niger, Burkina Faso, Algeria, Cote d'Ivoire and Chad."
.............

Facebook said it tied about 100 Facebook and Instagram accounts and pages to the alleged operation tied to people linked to the French military. The pages had about 5,000 followers on Facebook, the company said.

Besides Algeria and South Africa, all the big regional African countries betrayed the Sahrawi people by voting Morocco back in to the AU.

12 countries that voted no, requested the opinion of the legal council of the union before reintegrating Morocco ( algeria, southern arica, nigeria, south africa ...,)

but the most important thing is that morocco asked for the banishment of the saharawi republic in order to return to african union . and its was refused, they returned without any conditions. and they sit in the same assembly as the Sahrawi republic . so its normal .

But some variants of the f35 can take off on them so why not the possibility of smaller aircraft like turcanoes even the useless alpha jets

well the F35 B is special because its designed for short take-off and vertical-landing (STOVL) . like a helicopter . bjut even with STOVL us navy made a lot of modifications on its amphibious assault class America to carry it . and USS america is biiig , twice the tonnage of egyptian mistral class amphibious assault ship .

from wiki :
America will be modified in a similar way to the modifications made on USS Wasp to make her better able to withstand the great amounts of heat generated by the F-35B's engine exhaust when taking off or landing vertically. Intercostal structural members will be added underneath flight deck landing spots seven and nine to more closely perform timed cyclic flight operations without overstressing it. Other changes may involve re-adjusting some ship antennas to allow for a clear flight path. The ship will undergo a 40-week modification period where recently installed piping, lighting, and other features will be removed to weld reinforcements underneath the flight deck , the modification period would have been greater if its construction when in the shipyard had been interrupted to perform it. Such accommodations will be included in all future America-class ships from the start.

Hey guys is it possible for an amphibious assualt ship like Algeria own assualt ship to be upgraded to a mini aircraft carrier might not carry large numbers of jets but capable of carrying helos and small numbers of jets

nope .even having the correct runway length they will not be able to withstand the impact of the jets landing and take off , the structure of the ship and decks are totally different

Is Egypt still a threat to isreal..
If I may ask what's the issue with Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia, and morroco they seem like a disjointed family

politically NO, egypt and israel are allies since 70's . with camp david accords it was the first and most important betrayal to the Palestinian cause and for arab coutries. and it caused the disintegration of a united Arab front for palestine .

and even before . for most arabs , egypt has launched the war against israel prematurely without consulting the other arab armies. there were already querrels between Arab leaders , most arab countries wanted a true total war with israel . but egypt went it alone on its front . launched its attack without waiting other armies ( from morocco , algeria , libya , sudan ) and the support came late and after starting the war egypt also prematurely stopped the war and signed peace agreements, when they could win the war if they had engaged in a long war . with camp david accords they recovered the sinai and got a hudge support from the United States until now days . thats why since 70's . the few arab countries that want to free palestine dont trust egypt .

and with holy US support , more arab countries made peace with israel (officially or unofficially) .

now days egypt export gaz to israel . participates in the asphyxiation of the territory of gaza. by closing their border crossing and destroying the smuggling tunnels between them to weaken the hamas.

The lack of sincere unity among Arabs is the biggest disaster in the Middle East. And lack of patriotism too.
With the vast wealth in the Middle East, the Arabs should be ruling the world but it seems as if there is a curse somewhere.

there was never a true unity between arabs countries . each one moving for its own interests . and when you see Americans giving you billions $ and support and in the other hand palestinians giving you only crying and headhache. some choose easily .

specially that egypt ( the biggest arab country with multiple conflicts with israel) lead the way of normalisation in 70's . followed by jordan in 90's . ( their closest neighbors) . then this last wave of diplomatic normalisation this year with emirates , bahrein , sudan , and morocco .

@Raaven. Morocco just announced that it's normalizing ties with Israel in return for US recognizing Western Sahara as part of Morocco. In what possible way do you think Algeria will react given the history?

our media will only cry , look at those heartless Moroccans who have sold the rights of the Palestinians for their own interests . nothing more . , specially that our president has dissapeared from a month now not a single pic of him , ( officialy got Covid19 and evacuated to germany hospital ) but no news since . some say he died . so algerian politics and army chefs prepare for a serious crisis . it's not time to look for political quarrels with neighbors and Americans. and even if he was here he will do nothing and say nothing too.

and moroccans kings were always close to israelians . an exemple the king of morocco hassan II had in the past, recorded the meetings of arab leaders in morocco in 1965 which were preparing a war against israel and gave them to the israelians allowing them to know the plans of preparations of the egyptian and jordanian armies , thanks to this informations they launched a preemptive attack. and won the six day war in 1967 against egypt and jordan .

another exemple when hassan II died isrealien prime minister were invited and came at his funeral . there was even an israelian diplomatic liaison office in rabat morocco from 1994 to 2000 . the two countries colonize another country and they need international recognition of this occupation. same strategic interests . good move from moroccan politics .

so it's not surprising . its a coming out .
