salykely: What about the Hausa man who was roasted by Igbo youth? No one is condemning this retaliatory attacks. No one is telling Igbo people what they did to poor hausa families who have lived in their mist is bad! All I keep hearing in this forum from SE extract is hailing of the governor who even went further to inaugurate an inglorious ethnic militia that will help in killing Hausa/Fulani people in case of crises. A governor who have decided to profile Hausa/Fulani within his domain. Let everyone keep in record the attitude and response of this governor to this incident. If Kano alone should respond in like stupidity, the entire SE won't have the resources to accommodate the in flow of Igbo refugees. In civilized countries, those who burnt that hausa man to death would be brought to justice. The man was not sentenced to death, he was not allowed to defend himself in a court of law. He was killed by Igbo mob without hearing his own side of the story. Until death, the law of his land presumed him innocent. True. After dem go call Naija zoo. |

EzePromoe: Well if she loses out on the crown but suceeds in creating a positive niche for herself then to me that's not a failure. We might be aiming at the crown but she isn't willing to do anything at the expense of her reputation and good will that's why we're bent on creating that likability which is what she values much more than money that will fade sooner. In every contest, the shortsighted will aim at the short run reward (the prize) but the one with foresight will attach less importance to the short run reward and aim at the long run reward (likability) and the prize (if she gets it) becomes a bonus. That's why in many contests, the winners are not always the most popular. Examples of some of those contests if you will |

hifaif1: Hahaha, pathetic how you jump into conclusions!!! I thought we were talking about the characteristics of good prose and that Dan Brown was merely one of my examples!!! Listen, there is an argument and it is not about Dan Brown!!!
I am no Dan Brown enemy!!! I brought him into the equation to pass a point that size and prolificacy is not what comes in to determine the strength of authors against one another!!!
If you want me to prove anything concerning Dan Brown, open a thread for that!!! No wonder you were whinnying!!! You asked for parameters, Dan Brown comes into my reply as an example and you got so sentimental that you forgot we were talking about Adichie and Achebe and good prose!!!
In plainer terms, it is either you open a thread for Dan Brown or you go read up on him!!!
Or weren't it you who asked me for parameters for determining the strength of a writer!!! You left the answers and picked on an example!!! When I told you to calm down, I never knew it was this pathetic!!!
This was where you left the original argument and armed yourself with the cry: "Show us the inconsistencies"
When people behave like this, you know they have nothing else to offer!!!
We are talking literature, you come in talking Dan Brown, forgetting how he came into the argument!!! What serious school or examination board will even recommend his books!!!
The fact is your literary appreciation is wacky (strange)!!! Gosh man.I give up!! |
Literature › Re: Chimamanda Vs Chinua Achebe, who Is A Better Writer by Ranchhoddas: 2:55pm On May 05, 2016 |
hifaif1: Why are you rushing the words out like someone took your biscuits? I can almost hear your shaky voice!!!
Calm down!!!
Now, listen attentively , saying someone's effort/attempt is lazy doesn't equate with saying someone is lazy!!! And the word "lazy" is relative!!! So, I only pointed out a lazy attempt, not a lazy person!!!
Scientific and historic inaccuracies and ambiguous and weak sentences in Dan Brown's works are open secrets!!! And there are a lot of them enough to fill a page!!! The best education you can get is the one you help yourself with (That quote belongs to me!!!) . So, my friend, instead of nagging, help yourself while you can!!!
Coming here to run up and down like a headless chicken (this is not an insult, just a factual comparison) is not the way to help yourself to anything!!! It is not an insult to mention someone's poor literary appreciation skills!!! Abi, na everybody sabi Literature Na every literature student fit appreciate book ni Abeg, your need anger management classes and thank God for you, I am a psychologist!!! No need for your Muhammad to go to the mountain!!! Just humble yourself and you might get free therapy!!! So much words.Yet NOTHING said. You just heard/read those words somewhere on the internet and like the bandwagoner that you are(this is not an insult) adopted it and placed it on your head like a carton of biscuits. You might be wondering why I am pushing this Dan Brown issue. It is because it is not the first time I am hearing anti-Brown commentators say this, and this is simply because of their religious sensibilities. So I ask you again, what are these scientific and historical 'inaccuracies' as they appear to be 'open secrets' which some of us are not privy to.I am also still waiting for the meaning of 'wacky English'.I humbly ask to be enlightened by your free therapy. |

hifaif1: Rude name calling is for the empty!!! If you have any substance, you would not betray so much frustration!!!
You jumped into my mention and I unwittingly concluded that I was quoting the OP!!! Sorry for that!!!
Dan Brown's books are filled with inconsistencies!!! If you really wish to learn, help yourself with Google!!! The world has become so easy!!! Dan Brown is a good storyteller but his English is wacky and he doesn't pay much attention to facts!!! Go and check for yourself and come back here to prove me wrong!!! Nonsense. You started the name calling. You called me petty, lazy, said I lacked an appreciation of literature and accused me of using length of books to judge writers which I did not.You get a dose of your medicine and you want to start crying? Yeah.Cry me a river. You are the empty one because you make claims that like scientific and historical inaccuracies that you cannot prove and you are saying I should google it.Google is not the substitute for your brain...and what the hell do you mean by wacky English. Is your English any less wacky(whatever that means)? Una go just hear something for somewhere come carry am for head like say na gala. |
Literature › Re: Chimamanda Vs Chinua Achebe, who Is A Better Writer by Ranchhoddas: 12:28pm On May 05, 2016 |
hifaif1: Just agree you were petty!!! The problems with most people is their inability to accept their blunders!!! I call it pride!!! I don't know you but it is not hard to know that you know very little about literary appreciation!!!
Judging a writing is basically based on personal opinions. The opinions that eventually count are the strong ones!!! Go and read up on qualities of a good prose and educate yourself!!! Everyone has an opinion but it has to be strong to count!!!
But to come here and judge the better writer using prolificacy and length of books is just lazy!!!
Now, let us make something clear, if you were to judge a writing contest, how would you go about it?
Would you judge using size and the previous publication history of the author or what? You bumbling mor0n.Go through my posts and show me where I judged anybody using length of their books or prolificacy as you like to put it.And while you are at it,remember to tell us the scientific and historical 'inaccuracies' you speak of with your abundant knowledge of literary appreciation. |

hifaif1: A good prose is not about length but quality, composition, believability, powerful style of writing and lots more!!!
Judging the strength of a writer by their prolificacy and the size of their writing is petty!!!
Dan Brown's books are large but filled with scientific and historic inaccuracies and weak and ambiguous sentences!!! Dan Brown is prolific and popular, the quality of his books are not much to write home about!!!
Adichie is good but in terms of quality and presence of style and strong believable characters, Achebe was better!!! It is hard to actually copy Achebe's simple and compact style. His prose is smooth and almost flawless!!! Achebe was a master writer!!! It is for a strong reason that he is so much respected even though he didn't publish much and his books were compact!!! Very vague statements.I guess judgement of the quality of a novel is a matter of opinion.Could you please point out some of these scientific and historical 'inaccuracies' you speak of. |

joshuaidibia: you are still making thesame mistake my friend. Amanda is NOT 'closer' to Dan or Sydney. Use another writer please. I understand u. U meant between Achebe and Amanda, she is the one that is 'closer' to Dan and Sydney. Me am telling u dat u should not use dan and sydney. She no closer anything.. Why shouldn't I?Have you by any chance read the works of these people you are talking about? You do not seem to know what you are talking about.Heck, you even think that Dan Brown wrote Dante's Inferno. |
