The Lord God we do not see also treasures our act of piety/devotion/ and righteousness and also rewards us for them.
We can see this in the life of King Solomon who pleased God with his sacrifice that God asked him to make any demand he so desired.

God inhabits the praises of his people. Psalm 22 vs 3.

It is treasure because it is valuable to those who it is directed towards.

To understand how it is stored, we only have to look at the parable of the talents already touched by an earlier commenter.
To store means to make use of it in an appropriate and productive manner. Whatever talents (treasure) we have been entrusted with, we are to use it for the benefit of others and to the glory of God instead of being selfish (hoarding it) like the unfaithful servant and the hypothetical man in your opening post.

A Christian (the Nigerian type) might say that Jesus meant piety, devotion and righteousness/holiness.

I choose to be less rigid. A mother's love for example cannot be bought, neither can little acts of kindness or charity.
I think the whole storing of treasures in the right manner can be reduced to the golden rule. "Do unto others as you would want them to do unto you".

How one can store or should not store treasures can be seen from the parable of the rich fool.

Luke 12: 13-- 21 (NIV)

This is how it would be for whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God

Form the foregoing verses, we can see that while we might think that our treasures are our money, jewellery, or other material things we think valuable. Jesus has a different definition: our life, our soul. That's the real treasure

From this, we can see that the man who put his money in a vault will lose focus on the things above.

While his total cash may amount to 480 pounds, he will miss out on eternal rewards which are far more valuable than all the money in the world. So in the end he has nothing.
So, a wiser man would focus on the things above and not lay up fleeting treasures.
