Ms. Hope Usang, 25, who leases arms to suspected robbers in Calabar has been arrested by the Cross
River Police Command. The command said it has arrested a female armourer Usang and 21 other suspects who were arrested at different locations across the state.

When policemen stormed Usang's house, they recovered three revolvers, four rounds of ammunition, one pistol, one locally-made pistol among others.

The latest Big Brother Naija housemate to be evicted, Uriel, was recently at Pulse Nigeria.

During an interesting chat with the former housemate, she spoke about Efe being her favourite housemate and who she is rooting for to win the show.

On favourite housemate, she said, " I would say Efe. Efe cracked me up. You know, sometimes Efe is talking to me and in my head I'm just laughing. I'm like 'this guy .'

On why she likes the housemate: "Efe is so real. Sometimes I will just be cooking and Efe doesn't know what it is, or sometimes when I'm speaking, he will be like ' hey Uriel, I no understand wetin you just say. Abeg, wetin you just talk now. This your English eh." "And I will just crack up. I will be like 'okay, this is what I just said.'

  "He wasn't afraid to say 'I don't know what this is.' He wasn't afraid to take correction, he wasn't afraid to ask. For me, that is real, and that just spoke enough for him. "He is down to earth and he is just my G. based on logistics as Efe will say, Efe go win," he continued.

Uriel further stated that she wants Efe to win the show. "All the way. All the way," she said.

"You know what I like about him? You can see the drive. I'm not rooting for Efe to win, he is gonna win. That's what I'm saying...

Former Adamawa state Governor Bala Ngilari, has been sentenced to five years imprisonment by Justice Nathan Musa of an Adamawa state High court.

Ngillari was found guilty on all five counts of conspiracy to award contract amounting to the tune of N167,812,500 for the purchase of 25 units of operational official vehicles for the state without compliance with due process.

The judge in his ruling based his conviction of the former Governor on section 58(5) of the Public Procurement Acts, saying “the law hands of the laws are tied to convict any person found guilty of breach of procurement acts to be sentenced to less than five years imprisonment.

He said, “The convict is sentenced to cumulative sentence of five years, cumulatively on all the five counts to any jail in this country of his choice. But, in the meantime, he will be held here in the Yola Prison.”

Ngillari has however said he will exercise his rights to appeal while welcoming the judgement in good faith. “I accept the judgement with good faith without hard feelings to anyone,” he told journalists after the ruling.

The case against Ngillari, who ruled Adamawa following ex-Governor Murtala Nyako, under the PDP, was filed by the ruling APC-government led by Mohammed Jibrilla.

In full public glare, a soldier yesterday flogged a Lagbus driver for alleged rough driving on the Marina in
Lagos, The Nation reports.
The soldier accused the driver of endangering the lives of passengers in a commercial bus (Danfo) in which he was riding. He ordered the Danfo driver to chase the Lagbus bus vehicle and block it on top of the bridge on the Marina.

The soldier snatched a cane from some motor unionists in the area, and jumped into the Lagbus vehicle. He whipped the Lagbus driver, Idowu Kolawole, on the head repeatedly with the cane and dug his boots into the driver’s side.

Shocked passengers inside the BRT bus appealed to the soldier to stop beating the driver. The passengers, however, said the Danfo driver was at fault. They said the Danfo driver, who had stopped illegally to pick passengers, moved abruptly forcing the BRT bus coming behind him to swerve sharply to avoid hitting the bus and other vehicles.

A female passenger said: “It was the Danfo driver that was at fault. If the BRT driver had not swerved, he would have hit the bus and some of the passengers would have been injured. He did what he could to avert trouble yet he was punished."

Kolawole said: “The man just used his power on me. If he had been inside the Lagbus vehicle and witnessed what the Danfo driver did, he would have jumped down to beat the driver.

The driver did not watch the road before he moved so I was forced to swerve to avoid hitting the car on the fast lane on my left. Because of him, the soldier beat me and even used his boot to kick my side. Unfortunately, I did not see his (the soldier’s) name well enough to identify him."

Zimbabwe's High Court has outlawed corporal punishment for children both at school and in the home. The ruling comes
after a parent complained that her child in grade one, a class for six-year-olds, had deep bruises after a beating by a teacher.

Linah Pfungwa said her daughter had been punished for failing to have her reading book signed by guardians as proof she had done her homework. The constitutional court will have to confirm the judgement.

The BBC's Shingai Nyoka in the capital, Harare, says if upheld, it would transform the way parents have disciplined their children for centuries in the country. Some parents are criticising the ruling, while rights groups say it is long overdue.

Godknows Igali, a former Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Power, has forfeited 47 SUV cars to Federal government, EFCC has said. Igali is currently undergoing investigation by EFCC over alleged corruption.

The information is contained in a report by EFCC which the anti-graft agency submitted to Senate Committee on Financial Crimes and Anti-corruption. The report said that the cars were seized in Utako, Abuja residence of the former Permanent Secretary.

A court has remanded the embattled Kano singer, Sadiq Zazzabi, over his newly-released song. The singer was arraigned before the censorship court in Kano for allegedly violating the state’s censorship board law which requires that a songs or movies should pass a censorship screening before it is released.

Sadiq released his song before the approval of the censorship board. The chairman Kano state censors board, Ismaila Afakallahu, confirmed that Sadiq will remain in prison till Friday.

“The sitting took place today and Sadiq was asked to be remanded in prison until Friday when the court will resume hearing on the case,” he said.

“Yes he actually brought the song for censorship and before we can grant him a certificate of approval, he went ahead to launch the song. For doing that he has faulted the censors’ board rule and we are charging him for that.

Censoring a movie or song can take up to three weeks or more depending on the complexity of the song or film," he added.

Less than a week after 17 exotic vehicles were recovered from a former Customs boss, dozens of brand new tricycles and motorcycles have also been recovered from a property belonging to him.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission said on Wednesday that it raided the warehouse of Abdullahi Dikko, the former Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, where it made the new recoveries.

The commission listed the newly recovered items to include: 42 brand new customized yellow-coloured tricycles; 16 brand new cargo motorcycles; one brand new white 32-seater Nissan civilian bus; one MAN diesel truck;  515 brand new imported rugs of different colours and sizes; two metal bullet proof safe with the sum of N 1,565 and documents of transactions in different currencies within and outside the country (swipe to view all photos above).

Dikko, who headed the Customs between August 2009 and August 2015, was earlier arrested by the EFCC in June 2015 over alleged diversion of N40 billion from the agency’s coffers. The EFCC in November 2016, confirmed he had returned N1 billion of the allegedly stolen funds to the federal government.
