The OccupyNASS campaign group has denied being sponsored to move against the National Assembly, or its embattled chairman, Bukola Saraki, pointing instead to a robust support package from unnamed Nigerians, at an average of N400, 000 daily, throughout its campaign. The group on Thursday said it would bring down its tents and leave the main gate of the National Assembly on Friday morning, three days after starting a sit-in there. At a hastily-arranged press briefing on Thursday night, the movement listed its achievements, demands and plans for its future. Bunmi Awoyemi, the convener, said the protest was ending on a good note for all Nigerians. “This is the first time in the history of Nigeria that Nigerians from all walks of life were able to galvanise each other to come to Abuja to shut down the National Assembly,” Mr. Awoyemi said. “We succeeded in sending a very strong message that Nigerians will no longer be taking for a ride.” The group denied that the protest was against the Mr. Saraki, who is under pressure to step down from office as he faces corruption trial. The OccupyNASS said Mr. Saraki was only the symptom of the entire rot in the National Assembly. “As we have said since the beginning of this protest, it’s not about Saraki. The aim of this protest is not to get Bukola Saraki to resign because he’s a symptom of the entire rot in the legislature,” the group said. “The aim of this project is to achieve fundamental reforms.” Foramfera It also denied being sponsored against the nation’s legislature, saying its activities were fully funded by Nigerians who are sympathetic to the movement’s cause. “From day one, when Nigerians said they’re interested in occupying the National Assembly, contributions started coming in. Nigerians started asking for the account of the movement,” Mr. Awoyemi said. “Five thousand, ten thousand, one hundred thousand and even one million. A Nigerian, sitting amongst you today, donated ₦1 million to this protest. From U.S., from U.K., people were contributing to this movement. We were averaging ₦400,000 every day.” “OccupyNass”, however, rejected calls it to open its internal activities to public scrutiny, describing a PREMIUM TIMES’ question about publishing details of its account for all Nigerians to properly scrutinise as “insulting”. The group said a series of missteps by lawmakers in recent weeks informed their decision to take over the National Assembly. “The National Assembly was trying to amend the law in order to escape justice. Some of them even said making laws that will further balance gender issues will make women turn to prostitutes,” the group said. The group also held the lawmakers responsible for the ongoing budget impasse between them and President Muhammadu Buhari. “We know the president sent a terrible budget,” the group said, “but they (lawmakers) took this terrible budget, mutilated it, destroyed it, pounded it, separated it and pocketed it.” The group listed areas it believed the protest had been “resoundingly successful”, and acknowledged its agitation was buoyed by the overwhelming support from Nigerians on the Internet. “When the movement of OccupyNass started, there were issues that were related to the amendment of the Code of Conduct Bureau and Code of Conduct Tribunal Act and the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, it was when this movement took off that they took those controversial bills down, “We succeeded in sending a very strong message that Nigerians will no longer be taking for a ride. “The senators also held a private meeting in which they said there’s too much negative publicity about the National Assembly because of our protest. “They also cancelled the summon of the CCT chairman. “This is a victory not just for the Nigerian people but the agitation on social media as well,” the group said. The movement demanded an immediate return of newly-acquired Toyota Land Cruiser vehicles by the lawmakers, immediate passage of the petroleum industry bill as well as a reversal of all constituency projects proposed in the budget. Its members said they will take their campaign to the country’s hinterlands where they will interact with other citizens on the need to recall their lawmakers if their demands are not met. They also promised to continue their agitation for a better Nigeria by sensitising rural dwellers to the activities of their elected lawmakers. Other leaders of the “OccupyNass” who participated at the briefing included, Hamid Bakare, Isa Abubakar, Rekiya Sani and Jubril Gadzama. The protesters had thronged to the parliament building in their hundreds on Tuesday morning, to demand an immediate end to what they described as a “criminal plunder” of the nation’s resources by the 469-member legislature. Following initial squabbles with the police who denied them entry into the premises, members of the group agreed to settle beside the National Arcade, just across the passage from the main gate, where they unfurled the National Flag, installed their makeshift tents and mobile toilets. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/202626-%E2%80%8Boccupynass-group-received-n400-000-daily-national-assembly-protest.html |

The Presidency on Tuesday raised the alarm that President Muhammadu Buhari was still waiting for the details of the 2016 Appropriation bill almost a week after it was passed by the National Assembly. A presidency source who does not want his name in print, said that the President is anxious to assent the bill. The delay, the source said, is slowing down quick implementation of government programmes contained in the budget. He said: “The President has just received the transmission of the Appropriation Bill (2016 Budget) from the National Assembly and is very anxious to sign it into law, but the National Assembly only sent in the highlights without the details of the budget. “As result, the President has been handicapped in signing the Bill because he does not know what is contained in the details and what adjustments the National Assembly must have made to the proposal sent to them. “Although he is anxious to sign the document so that implementation of the provisions could start immediately and ease the tension in the economy and polity, he is afraid he may later discover, when the details are sent, that what is contained therein is not implementable. “He wishes the National Assembly could send in the details speedily so that it could be considered for assent. According to him, Ministers are also eager that the budget be signed so they could start implementing their programmes, He added: “But they are unable to push the President to sign what has been transmitted because they also do not know what is contained in the details. “They are particularly worried that the year is gradually aging and the provision of the law in respect of spending the previous year’s budget is not helping matters because of the low Capital provision for 2015. “Because of the low provision made last year for capital expenditure, spending 50% of that provision for the first half of this year will make no impact on provision of infrastructure. He also said that the Budget Office cannot work on the Budget for implementation because it is the details, and not the highlights, that they convert into implementable templates for the respective MDAs. He said: “This development confirms speculations that the National Assembly either did not complete work on the budget or are playing politics with the documents which affects the life of both the country and its citizens. “The National Assembly may just have passed the bill to pass the buck to the executive and escape the wrath of the public which was gradually suspecting it of sabotage.” He stated. http://thenationonlineng.net/buhari-still-awaiting-2016-budget-details-presidency/ |

– Fulani herdsmen are not buying the idea of grazing reserve – Some of them see it as an infringement of their rights to movement – There is suggestion that the herdsmen be educated on the importance The nomadic practice of moving cattle from one place to the other that is common among Fulani herdsmen in Nigeria has led to violent clashes between the herdsmen and farmers but the end of these confrontations doesn’t seem to be near. This is because the idea of providing permanent grazing reserves for herdsmen to prevent them from roaming with their cattle from the northern part of the country to the largely agrarian south is not welcomed by some herdsmen who feel their right to movement is going to be infringed. In a report published by Daily trust, some herdsmen and milk sellers expressed displeasure at the idea of restricting their movement and claimed cattle could not survive restrictions. A herdsman, Muhammadu Tukur said the idea of a permanent reserve will not work. “It will not work out because we always relocate to where pasture can be found.” Adamu Birniwa who is the secretary of the state chapter of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association said he was aware of the federal government’s plan and that there was plan to educate the herdsmen on the importance and benefit of the grazing reserve. Halilu Alhaji Ya’u who is a herdsman condemned the idea and said it would not work. “If what you are saying becomes reality, it will inconvenience us.” Alhaji Muhammad Hussaini who is the chairman of the Nasarawa state Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, Nigeria said it was a bad idea and an invitation for to trouble. “We have over 35 million Fulani herdsmen in the country and stopping their movement with cattle might not be possible.” “If you force a Fulani man not to move with his cattle, you are inviting trouble.” Hadiza Umar who sells Fura Da Nono rejected the idea and said it might kill her business. “If you stop moving cattle how do you feed them? Do you think you will get grasses and water from a location to feed them? Where are we going to get the milk? If you don’t get the milk from the cattle rearers in the bush, where do we get it? They are planning to kill our business. They shouldn’t tamper with our means of livelihood and find an alternative means of resolving their problems, and not create another because this move is unacceptable.” The debate rages on… https://www.naij.com/778244-never-cant-stop-us-moving-cattle-around-fulani-herdsmen-issue-threat.html

I will embark on prayer and fasting against this summit. At the end there will be no solution to the economy crisis rocking the country under an Islamist dictator. We don't need the courageous governor to tell any discerning mind that it was a needless jamboree. Most of us, who commented on the communique equally said as much. The mere fact that buhari has continued his penchant of forcing square pegs into round holes speaks volumes about our seriousness in revamping our economy. The two-day retreat came and gone without the participants brainstorming about the epileptic power supply in the country. No wonder at the end of the so called retreat, a law professor was appointed to head our economic recovery team. Buhari government as presently constituted is a big joke. Junaid yesterday called it government of incompetents. Buhari must fail. |
To bring the ailing Nigerian economy back to track would require diligent work and time, the All Progressives Congress (APC), said at the weekend. The party urged Nigerians to give the Federal Government the opportunity to straighten things out. Deputy National Chairman (South West) of the party, Engr. Segun Oni, urged Nigerians to be patient with the government in its efforts to turn around the flailing economy. Oni assured Nigerians that the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration would bring the economy back on track with the 2016 budget. The former governor of Ekiti State, who spoke in Abuja at the launch of a book titled: “Who says Government has no Business in Business?,” written by Engr. Anthony Madagua, blamed the previous government for mismanaging the economy. He said: “The economy is down not going down. It is down because it was badly managed; it was mismanaged by the previous government that went on a looting spree, debasing everything. It was almost as if it is a form of madness. “Nigerians should not worry. Yes we are impatient but the economy will be brought back but it will require diligent work and time and we should give the government the opportunity to straighten things out. Advertisement “I will say we are a bit hasty, we are in a hurry. This government came in middle of last year. The budget in place for last year was prepared by the previous government. The government in place now is going to be operating in its own budget very soon. “What can be done outside budget lines and budget items government has done appreciably well, prosecuting the war against corruption, prosecuting the war against Boko Haram. “We should now wait to see prosecute its own agenda via its budget. That has not started and i don’t think we should judge the government on the performance in a few months when the government is actually in place for four years.” In his address, the author of the book, Engr. Anthony Madagua, called on government to create enabling environments for businesses to growth. “The government must not only create the enabling environment, it must also take a role in businesses. There is no reason why government cannot make our refineries to work,” he said https://www.today.ng/news/national/95844/fixing-economyll-require-time-diligent-work-apc |

Now tell us the amount of megawatts Buhari inherited from Jonathan |
