There is nothing wrong with their name.

The fact that you people are spending so much time arguing about it shows that the name 'Desperate Chicks' is pure genius!!

ElRazur:
You agreed the song is lyrically not existent, yet you think it is still a good track because the beats are good? I suppose you are those people who listen to "beats" even if the artist is speaking in tongues like the old days of the Remedies? I mean that is like saying, Oh your car looks good but it's got no engine.

See, you seem to think because it is "Olu" we should not expect much from him. I disagree, every artist should deliver or make attempts to make serious delivery on contents and concepts. Olu failed and people have the right to say what they think. And far as this thread goes, most think it is a crap song. Period.

Perhaps he should take it easy and stop releasing crap, meaningless, idiotic, non-sense, mediocre and below-standards songs? Just a thought. smiley
lets agree to disagree. there are different types of artists. Not every artist has to have serious concepts and talk sense. To take that approach is elitist. A lot of people just want to dance and dont give a hoot about the content. . . . . that is the market Olu Maintain is aiming for.

The beat is heavy and if your drunk at a party you will probably dance non-stop to the song.

Olu maintain has never been known for his lyrical depth so i wonder why we are suddenly expecting  diffferent from him this time

'not the girl' by dare alade

that song is sooooo bad. I don't understand why he spent so much money on the video. anybody who says its any good apart from him and his immediate family are on payola.

Have you actually heard it? Damn!!!! some of the singing is dodgy as hell!!
Music/Radio › Re: Mr Olu Maintain's New Single : Arab Money by rapjunkie(m): 1:48am On Apr 19, 2009
just listened to this song. . . . . to be honest . . . . . .its not that bad.

i see he is being slaughtered on this site and to some extent i can see why. the major problem with the song is that it is lyrically weak BUT the beat is heavy!!!

Imagine if Mode9/dagrin/nateoc/MI/K16/Vector/Blackboy down/ Sauce kid e.t.c had this beat?

Also, its OLU MAINTAIN!!!! . . . .what else do u expect?

I beg, take am easy on the guy!!

Rappers talking smack, I eight (ate) limbs like an octopus
We historic black boys, so Barack~of~us"
and we dont giveS a damn (SADAM) so IRAQ of us

- M.I    cant tell me nothing
These lines are terrible. they make no sense. ' I eight( ate) limbs like an octopus'

'we historic black boys, so Barack of us' huhhuh

and we don's giveS a damn ( Sadam) so iraq of us ?

Oh i get it, lets just rhyme words even though it makes no sense but sounds intelligent because its 'word play'

An Octopus has eight legs  . . . .  doh !!!

Iraq rhymes with Barack . . . ,  doh!

3 Questions :

1. what does ' i ate limbs' mean in the context of rappers talking smack?

2. what does ' Barack of us' mean?

3. whats does 'iraq of us' mean?

M.I ruined 'cant tell me nothing' by Kanye West. Its terrible! the only thing that saves him on the illegal mixtape album are the beats which he jacked anyway.

MI is not better than Mode9 or Ruggedman ( thy album come).

@Tosin

The mixtape is utter garbage. Please tell me your favourite song on the tape so i can listen and see whether I made a mistake

I have heard many rappers who are better or on par with MI but  don't have the financial backing/support  that MI obviously does.

The whole Str8 Butta crew, Blackboy down, K16, 5 mics, Dark Poet, Mr Rhed, Teeto, O.D, 4th republic e.t.c can all match MI but they haven't seen the level of investment/hype that MI has.

I don't mind MI, if I want to listen to non threatening,  easy listening, weak, girlie rap but to say he is the best in Naija is silly.

dejiariyo:
another ignoramus post and some demented comments , when did coming out of artiste says another artiste career will be over, now cos we have artiste like souja boy, nas shud just retire, young juc, lil wayne shud retire.

only in nigeria will artiste who is clearing lifting and biting ryhmes will be highly celebrated as a legend, have u listened to track 6 of his illegal album and jay z some people hate? listen to it and come back to reply my post, how can a biter be a lyricist, i am still wondering.

@tosin
if u want modenine and others to retire as u suggested, what do u think we be the future of nigerian hiphop,u want pple like 9ice to continue to win best hiphop album from africa?or do u think artiste making noise about african american album for 2 years can be the future of nigerian hiphop?i dont think so nigeria hiphop scene is too young for yu little brain to be calling for artiste retiring.

i like mi and some other cats but i think we shud be very careful of whatever will wish for them all, i know nigerians are like prostitute they go for who ever is raining same thing they were all saying when naeto c came out, so am not to suprised, most of yall knowledge of hiphop is to shallow, u just think hiphop is an act which is not, its a culture , rapping is just an element of it.
I've got to agree with dejiariyo on this one, apart from the swipe at Sauce Kid and Tosinaded

MI's hype machine has spammed the whole internet into making us believe he is the best rapper in Nigeria and probably the whole world/universe/ galaxy/ milky way.

Funny, i was talking to my cuz in Nigeria and she never even heard of him. Her question was 'what track of his is popular at the moment?' . . . . .errrr, there is no answer to that because none of his tracks are popular on the street.

On TV, he only has that badly produced and directed 'crowd mentality' video and a few guest appearances that are not particularly good. The knighthouse one and the one with DIPP.

MI's  been out for 5 minutes with no hit records and he is better than everybody else because he can string a couple of sentences together . . . . like ' MI's too ill  like sickness an STD like syphilis' . . . . . Na wa o!!!

The illegal mixtape is garbage and i am surprised that he would  release it so soon after his album dropped. Surely, it should have been the other way round!

I've raised the issue of M.I being a biter several times in posts on NL but the MI hype machine remains silent on that.  Now he wear suits like Naeto C  and thinks he is Kanye West . . . . .Only God will save us!!!!

dont agree with you on that one, nothing wrong with this song. I remember seeing it on facebook before he actually recorded it in the studio. Not bad at all  but he needs to cut out the  auto tune thingy because there is a nice tone and clarity already in his voice.

my thoughts exactly.

Also he looks a bit drawn and gaunt in the video like he's been starving himself or is on some high grade crack.

I hope he has better tracks on his album. His lyrics are as good as they always are but i HATE his delivery, tone of voice. Don't even like the beat.

Eminem's first 2 albums were his best. . . i don't think it is possible for him to get any better. . . . .

Music/Radio › Re: Pls Where Is Ghetto P by rapjunkie(m): 9:29pm On Apr 06, 2009
I've read through this thread and nobody's answering the  question. lipsrsealed

Where is ghetto p? where are his songs? i saw him on Jimmy's jumpoff and i was impressed. He seems a natural. But freestyling and song writing are 2 different things. He did diss mode9 and refer to himself as 'a household name'. . . . I've heard nothing since. he should have at least have some other songs that we know. undecided

'Big baby' was a well crafted song and was written soon after he met mode9 which shows he has the ability to record professionally at a moments notice.

Somebody please tell him to make some kinda statement for his fans. its almost mid 2009. . . . . . .or people will keep asking questions like 'where is ghetto p?' huh
Music/Radio › Re: Which Artistes Are Overrated? by rapjunkie(m): 7:00pm On Apr 05, 2009
M.I is the most overated musician in naija today. The hype surrounding this guy is scary. PLUS he bites loads of Mode9 lyrics and still gets props.

I saw the profile mesage on his FB recently and he reckons that the new music outta naija is not impressing him. Who the f*ck does he think he is? the messiah? Is he taking this 'Naija Kanye West' thing too seriously. He'll be throwing tantrums next!!!

Now I have to put up with that rubbish 'illegal mixtape' where he is singing nursery rhymes with a vocoder !!!!. . . . arrghhhhh!!!!!!!!!!

Bamsyle:
Easy on this dude guys . . .

Seems you don't understand his style . . . he's not hardcore . . . I haven't copped his album but I've listened to his song "Beautiful" and it wasn't bad . . . you have to approach/rate each artiste on his/her individual style . . .

@Lalaboi/Rapjunkie

The "Beautiful" song has to be approached with an open mind for you to understand it . . . it's a song with a simple rhyme structure and that might tend to make you think it's stupid . . . it's not . . . also, his use of a Ghanaian rhythm is nice . . .

His continuous mention of the word "beautiful" at the end of each line/stanza is an element of poetry . . . some words can be repeated like that so as to make a song/poem sound melodious/rhythmical . . . I've heard songs that make use of that kinda style . . . Busta Rhymes' "What It Is" easily comes to me mind . . . Busta repeatedly used the words "right now" in the second verse of the song . . .

Can't remember some other songs but a poem like "Africa" also comes to mind . . . the opening stanza goes sumn like "Africa my Africa, Africa of . . . gedithuh

If an artiste is lazy, I'll be quick to admit it but I don't think M-trill came across as lazy in "Beautiful" . . . 'newayz, I don't have his album yet . . . might as well wait till then 'fore I post more comments.
Never heard of m-trill b4 this album. I heard he was rapper. Yet to hear anything significant from him as a 'rapper'.

I understand what he was trying to do but unfortunately 'beautiful' doesn't sound like any poetry to me and its annoying. The beat is great but wasted with lazy lyrics     ( MY OPINION)  and the endless repetition of the word 'beautiful'.

You say he is not 'hardcore' . . . . what does that mean? is he a hip hop artist or not?

Now if you say M-trill is doing 'naija hip pop' then that's a  different genre and I'll cut him some slack. Sort of like the naija version of Soulja Boy meets Flo Rider . Unfortunately that's not my cup of tea because I'm a rap junkie.

I admire the guys hustle but he aint gonna get no props from me.

I aint hating . . . . . . .
