There has to be away to make the godfather's more accountable. You can't shut down piracy completly anywhere in the world  BUT you can reduce/limit it by strong regulation. Don't know how any of this is feasible in Naija but you cant stand around and do nothing or the industry will suffocate itself.

@Skingo

Do u really think the problem will disappear if Alaba is eradicated?. Is it that simple? huh huh Wouldn't they just  move on to somewhere else and continue? What purpose would a poll serve until you've explained this to us? OR are you just repeatiing what keke said?

I'm certain that you have either profited from this or you are a stakeholder in those who have.

Music/Radio › Re: Amplifyd Crew: I Can't Shout (official Music Video) by rapjunkie(m): 11:17pm On Mar 06, 2009
I dont want to talk now because if i do all these over sensitive guys on NL will start looking for a fight.

Anyway, i can't help myself. The concept is ok. The beat ( love the highlife type remix)  would certainly work but there is something missing with amplfied crew. Not sure if it is the delivery, flow or the accents but i cant see this being a massive hit in Naija even though it could/should be.

I think that its hard to connect with what they are saying and how they are saying it. BUT it all depends on the market they are aiming for.If its naija then they need to step up their game because there are a million cats IN Naija who will tear up this beat easy.    Or is it that they are just mediocre rappers/musicians and will always sound a bit watery?

First thing I would do if i was them would be to run far away from Eldee and his cheezy style of production and sound and image.  They should go to naija and maybe work with some proper naija producers who could help them find their own identity in the studio.

JUST MY OPINION!!! wink
Music/Radio › Re: Eldee The Dons New Album by rapjunkie(m): 7:34pm On Mar 06, 2009
I've heard it but can't they get past that? Did Freestyle reply? I dont really think anybody cares anyway.

Eldee is clearly struggling without the other 2 cats whether he wants to admit it or not. He should go and apologise to Freestyle and get on with it.

In Naija, there are so many crap lines laced over good beats . . . from even the so-called megastars . . . they're so many you just have to overlook 'em . . . if you pick up all the crap lines we have from Naija artistes and analyse 'em one after the other, you'll faint cos of fatigue . . .
Thats funny. If Koffman read my original post he will see that I was positive about the song. The first verse aint bad. I like the ozumba mbadiwe line and the flow but the rest sucked!!. I didnt say it like that, I simply suggested that there should be a remix. But they kept goading me. If the line is wack dont dress it up and say it is 'unique' word play. How are we going to raise the naija hip hop game if we are always lying to ourselves?

na dem sabi

I will look for the song you mentioned and have a listen. If this guy's style is as a comic rapper then fine. That explains it all.  wink

Do u have the "illegal Mixtape"?
Listen to the last track, it's an interview.
He explained that he had to kinda try to do wat will sell in 9ja wit the "Talk bout it" album.
Then the "Illegal mixtape" was for heads. while the "One" is like the very M.i that likes to create unusual music.
I dont think it's a bad idea, especially if the 3 works come corret and represents the classifications.
At lest it means the boy is really workin, unlike some other dudes who dont even have mixtapes and they claimin kingship and stuff.
I like when smone is deligent.
Lets see the outcome of "one" i hope it does well, i like the "illegal mxtape" so im sure i'll like "one" too.

@DBR

I must agree with that.

Nothing wrong with MI thinking outside the box. Just got to make sure.

Thanks. No I ain't got a the mixtape. Any links?

I'm sorry you now think i am stupid. I thought the line read 'pot hot pass kettle' Didnt see anything about 'cooking in a kettle' Also I thought you could boil water in a kettle which would make it it hot.
I don't even understand what D'Banj has got to do with this so its a shame i'm not as intelligent as you. Godbless!!

When i initially saw this thread i was curious to know why people spent more time talking about bans and Mods and Tosinedad than the actual 'underwear' song  itself.

I have now listened to the song on www.notjustok.com and I can understand why.

Fliss is on charts on radio with this track, Sh** gets head turning each time its played, nigg*s be like dam thats some sexual poetry, busting up da place. Boy help me out on this track now?!
Is there something I'm missing? Maybe the version I listened to has some bits cut out because I didnt hear any 'sexual poetry'. I'm trying my best to stay postive here. huh Anybody? Help?? undecided

rap junkie na wa o! lol , i've been a fan and still am and you do have a point but LAMBO DAVIRUS is FAR from wack, dont you agree. u picked up on lyrics you dont like, but they make sense, my questions are, level no pass level? bass no pass treble? pot no hot pass kettle? ghetto no pass ghetto? come on this is just a case of the kind of things u prefer to hear. its not intellectual lyricism but remember say the majority of the naija population no dey as intellectual as you o! so its not every hit dat will appeal to you in its entirety,
Pot no hot pass kettle? eerrrr, i don't think so.

So are you saying the majority of the naija population are dimwits who think that a pot is hotter than a kettle?  huh

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm huh huh huh
Music/Radio › Re: Modenine And Mi:which Do You Prefer? by rapjunkie(m): 1:59pm On Mar 06, 2009
As long as MI and his fans recognise this, cool. MI is tight no doubt, but in the words of the lyrically gifted Lambo Davirus 'level get level, bass pass treble!!' lol,

Comparing MI to Mode is like comparing an Oga to his houseboy.  tongue

Its an insult!!

Also I read an article on MI in Ladybrille and he said he was releasing an 'international' album for the western market?  WTF does that mean? Is he leaving us all ready to go and rap in the States? So he had to release a seperate album for us dummies in Naija first ?

LADYBRILLE.com: You will soon be releasing an album for the Western market and some people call you “Kanye West of the West” and even you have alluded to it in your lyrics, some say “Lil Wayne.” How do you intend to penetrate the Western market?
M.I.: [He laughs] Well for the Western market, I want to put my name out there because I believe it is an important statement to make for Africa, for Nigeria. I realize that I may not be the dude that will make it. I hope I am the guy and I hope I am someday at the Grammys and going up for an award. For now, I just want to put out the purest music I can and be good, like be very good. The “One” album I feel is better than Kanye West. It’s that good. . .I really think and work as hard as I can to let people know we can do it.

Well like i said before again only my opinion,
So just because its a 'commercial naija track' anything is fine. As long as the artist is saying something into the MIC and the beat is a 'banger'?? hmmmmm!!! huh huh huh

I think you can go commercial without having to stoop to this level with the lyrics. Now you say this guy is 'witty'. Did you miss out the letter 'T" in that?   tongue

The Federal govt will ban musicians from using the reggaeton beat in any further songs causing mass unrest and riots in lagos. MI,Mode 9 and Rugged will then create a supergroup called 'Baboons under the Moon' and release the record breaking album 'The Contradiction, Part 2' earning a tidy N10billion each from Alaba marketers. grin

Mode 9 will totally sell out and do a collabo with eldee and start singing in order to get a commercial hit . This will enrage Mode9 fans who drive him out of naija and he will have to live with amplified crew in america in exile grin grin grin grin grin

It should have been Pype feat. Kaynon. grin

i think these lines by Kaynon were ill advised:

the boy's really loose it aint just a name/
i'm a bachelor boy and so i plan to stay the same/
you aint my wife, ur just one night/
i'll take you home and show you how i lay pipe/      huh!!    huh huh huh huh ??

But i can see how the beat will be rocked at clubs

audio:
As vector is to Jay-Z
Pype is to Sean Paul

No originality. Studied the style and replicated it almost exactly.
But it will go down a storm in Naija, zombiefication is very common and is even encouraged.
@audio

This guy sounds NOTHING like sean paul like Vector does Jay Z!!!.Pype is doing dancehall and no be Sean Paul own the genre. Naija have always done thier versions of jamican influenced reggae, dancehall e.t.c

Think ras kimono, majek, mandators, blakky e.t.c

it is what it is  undecided
Music/Radio › Re: Lambo Davirus : Jam Body! by rapjunkie(m): 1:52am On Mar 06, 2009
Love the beat. Dont we already have a  'davirus' in Naija?

Anywayz, 1st verse is kinda cool, choruses are tight but lyrics in the verses get weaker and sort of collapse at the end.  So it seems like he rushed it in the studio. Could have been better. Maybe need a remix with other cats doing verses 2 & 3?

who did the beat??
Music/Radio › Re: Omawunmi's " In D Music" by rapjunkie(m): 12:59am On Mar 06, 2009
Not feeling the musical direction she took with this song. We all know we have heard better south african ( from south africa!) tracks like this already and so that sort of dilutes the impact she COULD have made.

This girl actually has an AMAZING voice but its lost in this song.

Not my cup of tea, unfortunately. sad

I watched her on a nigezie interview and she is quite funny and charming. Certainly one to watch out for in the future.

Music/Radio › Re: Modenine And Mi:which Do You Prefer? by rapjunkie(m): 7:54pm On Mar 05, 2009
audio:
There is more to hiphop than just dropping punchline after punchline. If you check the lyrical of all the top rappers, they are all story tellers. Their rapping about something. weaving a tale together using words, simile and verbs as their yarn.

It doesn't matter who you are, if you have some idea of rhyming structure and you sit down long enough with a dictionary and theasaurus, you will be the punchline king in no time.

Listen to the big hits - Stan by Eminem, Hero by Nas, My life - The Game, Get up - 50cent. They're telling stories not just dropping punchlines for the sake of it. In a freestyle or battle fine, but it's not enough for actual songs on an album. After the 3rd song, i always get bored.

My personal opinion
I agree.  Also the more you use them the less effective they are. But Mode has got better punchlines/wordplay than MI  and I'm a bit concerned about MI's originality after seeing DBR's recent post
