About a month ago, Sahara Reporters posted footage showing a truckload of Fulani boys arriving in a community in Kwara State.

At the time, there were speculations that they came for voter registration. Some residents expressed concern about the sudden movement of Fulani youths into the state, but nothing was done. There was no visible investigation — or if any took place, the public never heard about it. Even the mainstream media paid little or no attention.

Though there have been previous reports of attacks in parts of Kwara, things took a darker turn yesterday. A church was attacked during a livestream service in Eruku town. Several people were reportedly killed, while others were said to have been abducted by the terrorists.

Now, we are not categorically claiming that those seen in the month-old video are directly connected to the attack in Eruku yesterday. However, when a particular group has repeatedly been a source of concern and has, on multiple occasions, been caught in violent acts, it becomes only wise to raise an alarm when there is suspicious movement of such people — especially in that manner — into an already tense community and state.

So, who do we hold accountable? Only God knows how many more of these attackers may have been brought into Kwara State and armed.

Yet the Nigerian government does not seem to see this as an urgent issue.

Meanwhile, a traveller has cried out for help after running into terrorists operating in Eruku town in Kwara State, near the boundary between Kogi and Kwara, this evening. Their vehicle was forced to stop, and they immediately took cover.

According to him, they were travelling from the Federal Polytechnic Bida and driving through Kwara State on the Ilorin–Bida road when they got close to Eruku and suddenly heard heavy gunshots. Residents quickly fled in panic, with many hiding in the bush for safety.
