ojoadeola: It means no Permanent Secretary or Director can use more than 8 years (2 term of 4 years each) in his/her position. Even if he/she is 40 years when he/she became a director. This also means Permanent Secretaries or Directors can retire before the age of 60 or attainment of 35 years in service, if he/she has served the mandatory 8 years in that position. If a Civil Servant has risen to the position of Director, and spent two tenures in the post, then he should leave. There is no higher post to attain by promotion. Leaving a civil servant in such a highly-ranked post for too long a time only promotes inefficiency. |

Yar'Adua's government had reasonable backing for instituting the tenure policy: to ensure freshness in the Civil Service and prevent anybody from colonizing any seat. The policy was not unilateral but was borne from the findings of a committee.
Now Buhari's government has suspended the policy without any reason or panel.
By implication, anybody who becomes a Director at 42 can remain there for 18 years. Those underneath the Director have no impetus for hard work because Oga will be there until he retires. There is no possibility of getting promoted to the post |

Gbyte: I am still finding it hard to understand what people are saying about gender equality. In Nigeria where I am and grew up. The only place where females don't have same right to education is in the north, and if you ask me, it's not even what a bill can do, because if a bill is passed for this purpose, is the bill going to fund the child's fees and cost of living ? If a father has said, 'I am not educating my female child'. Is it not better to educate the man to see reasons as to why his child needs education instead of passing a bill? And as per Job opportunities, women are heading very powerful ministries in Nigeria, Deputy governors inclusive. We have great examples like Late Dora Akunyuli, Dieziani, Stella Oduah, Anne Ene-Ita and many more. If these women are heading powerful positions, then what are we fighting for about gender equality. Lastly, marriage, the role of a woman and a man in marriage is different and it can only be so. The only aspect where I think you women are fighting for is to be the custodian of a children and property automatically immediately the man dies, but this aspect is why we have a will, if a man has a will, I think all of these would be very simple, but we should also look at a point whereby a man dies when the woman is very young, in this situation, the woman would most likely marry another man, are you saying it's right for the woman to take everything the man has acquired and go marry another man? If I'm asked, I would say no, so if that is the case, the woman should get a certain percentage of the property and the rest be given to the kids. So I don't know what these people are talking about o, someone should enlighten me more. @uchejombo please explain to me what I don't understand here. Very well said. |

MissGdope: I see people chanting men are the head of this and that. Nobody is saying they're not the head of the family. Gender equality is important for one of the scenarios she stated - equal pay. Why should a man get more salary than a woman for the same job? it is wrong. Gender equality doesn't be little men, it empowers women to be more confident. There are many women/girls out there who will not even bother with education because they know a guy will be picked over them. This legislation will make girls more interested in Education, have higher aspirations in life because they know they will be treated equally in a work/education environment. My 2 pence.
P.S. I'm not a feminist, just someone who thinks equality is important no matter the age, gender, race, tribe etc Men and women get paid equally for the same job. The "wage-gap difference" is due to the higher percentage of men in higher paying jobs. |

claremont: I envy a friend of mine who works as a locum doctor in the NHS. He makes a good living earning more than permanently employed doctors doing the same jobs. I have often asked him why he prefers locum, he advised that locum is were the money is. This is someone who makes at least £60 per hour working 12 hour shifts 5 days a week. There was a time when I even considered going back to uni to do the accelerated 4 year medicine degree. To answer your question, there is virtually no unemployment for doctors in UK, and most locum agencies prefer non-UK doctors because they are hardworking and are ready to work unsociable hours. Thank you |

@Claremont, I don't mean to derail this thread. Just want to ask this here. What are the chances of getting locum jobs for doctors in the UK. Assuming I scaled the PLAB1 and 2, could I settle into the UK system within two months. What about training posts? I know it is difficult for Non-UK/Non-EU doctors but what are the chances of getting in or at least, doing locum jobs that pay the rent. |

In the North, you don't need to have certificate before you do anything. Just indicate interest. It still goes on today. Some people get to University level in the North without passing NECO or JAMB. Just indicate interest in going to school
Buhari probably does not have a certificate. If he did, there is no need hiring 15 Senior Advocates of Nigeria for a case that can be easily resolved. Just whip it out or write to Cambridge to provide verification.
Somebody with money should back the plaintiff because a long battle is ahead

Politics › Re: Why Military Under Jonathan Failed To Defeat Boko Haram – Former CDS by RedCapChief(m): 12:32pm On Jun 14, 2016*. Modified: 12:48pm On Jun 14, 2016 |
He's right that politics was responsible for the failure of the military to curb Boko Haram. Everything in Nigeria, even human life, is politics
When Ihejirika's boys went hard on Boko Haram, 'Northern Elders' wailed that the Army was strategically decimating the North. That was when we heard things like "An attack on Boko Haram is an attack on the North." These elders wailed and wailed, accusing Ihejirika of genocide because he was an Igbo man. They asked Jonathan to remove him, stop the military onslaught and allow them seek 'internal solution' to the menace.
Jonathan agreed and removed Ihejirika
Boko Haram metastasized and became hydra-headed, tearing apart the Borno, Yobe, Adamawa and even Cameroon. The same elders wailed that Jonathan had deserted them. They accused of supporting BH so that elections would not hold in the North. They spread word that he was "clueless."
Jonathan's state of emergency was so weak. I have never seen a military state of emergency where the elected government was allowed to continue - yet Jonathan allowed Shettima, Geidam and co to continue, just to placate them.
Then Chibok girls happened . . . and Jonathan was certified to be clueless by the people he thought were allies“Can you imagine fighting a war and the people you were trying to protect were thinking that soldiers out there on the streets of Maiduguri, were an army of occupation, which brought a lot of political dimension to the issues.' The people who spread this rhetoric are those who would sacrifice their own people for political power. |

Deen77: Don't mind them, even from this news, she is only a director less then two year.
She joined Shell since 1992 as core staff and worked there for over 20 years.
In Diezani's case, only legal proof of stolen funds can actually prove anything. Maybe she stole, maybe she didn't; we don't know. She has been thrice a Minister and, steal or not, no Minister serves in Nigeria and comes out a poor man. The position leaves you wealthy and gives access to lots of opportunity. Diezani had a lot of contractors who were falling over themselves to seek her audience - some of them would have brought "appreciation." That is the way the Nigerian civil service is. Her aides used to charge thousands of USD before they even allow you to find out her itinerary and meet her.
Besides, her husband is a billionaire in his own right. |
