cjrane: I just feel uncomfortable with the cushion chairs in our train. Even though they are great now, i wonder how long they will last.
If you noticed, trains abroad have plastic seats, so that they can be easily cleaned out, even if someone vomits on it.
Anyhow, i thank our working President GEJ for providing Nigerians a functional train. Something the others simply failed to do. Ive only seen plastic chairs in trams o.. i have not seen them in trains but im sure yankee trains would have plastic chairs. But in switzerland all train irrespective of the class is cushion |

tola9ja: Why Muhammadu Buhari will win - Aljazeera Buhari remains the single most popular man in northern Nigeria. Despite lacking real party structure, Buhari, with CPC in 2011, defeated Jonathan in Yobe, Borno, Zamfara, Sokoto, Niger, Kebbi, Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Gombe and Jigawa. He single-handedly polled a total of 12,214,853 votes, which amounted to 54.3 percent of Jonathan's tally. Riding on the back of APC's nationwide structure backed by 14 governors and their war chest, a Buhari victory in 2015 is quite possible. Buhari is popular outside the north as well. Four days after he created his Twitter account (@ThisIsBuhari), he had already amassed 45,000 followers. This is testament to Buhari's growing national - not just northern - acceptability, because the north remains Nigeria's least literate zone. The north, therefore, has a sparse population of Internet users, which means that Buhari's crowd of Twitter followers probably come from across the country. In truth, Buhari cannot take full credit for his popularity outside the north. Full marks should go to Goodluck Jonathan, the man who has unravelled as the antithesis of his opponent's unique selling point. Presidential spokesman Reuben Abati can deliver the floweriest prose about his boss's aversion to corruption while his colleague Doyin Okupe hurls the foulest words at the opposition and other Nigerians daily puncturing the president's professed incorruptibility. But the majority of Nigerians have come to accept that Jonathan, even if re-elected for 10 terms, will never fight corruption. The courage is lacking, the political will is nonexistent, the desperation for re-election is so consuming that he would not hurt the weakest of his corrupt political allies. So Nigerians are prepared to turn to Buhari, unarguably the least stained presidential aspirant in the eyes of the people. When APC was formed in February 2013, senior PDP figures dismissed it as a failure-bound union of four parties. Who would blame them? Many were sceptical that this merger would not survive even a year. Yet, in another two months, this merger would be two years old. But that is not the story. The story is that all APC presidential aspirants defeated by Buhari have offered him their support. Few expected it. Atiku Abubakar, the man most expected to bolt out of APC in the event of a loss, congratulated Buhari the moment the ex-general's vote count overtook his, even though the winner had not yet been officially announced at the time. There is a massive movement for Buhari, which Jonathan didn't face in 2011. This post right here is the begining and the end of the full story! |

tit: Nigeria is thriving! We recently became the biggest economy in Africa. Our train stations are back to life and in 2015, will carry the moRE passengers than any other rail system in Africa. Nigerians are getting involved, hands-on, in the business of extracting minerals. We no longer leave any of the business to foreigners to do while we wallow in ignorance. When the PIB is passed this technology acquisition will be accelerated. In 2015, government stranglehold on natural resources will be removed and hardworking Nigerians in North and South will get busy exploiting and processing the natural resources God has blessed our land with! We shall abolish federal unitary government and encourage local governments.
As for boko haram and all killers and murderERs like TINUBU, FASHOLA, OBASANJO, buhari, osinbanjo and his followers, we shall deal with them the way we dealt with Ebola fever! chidi01: Everybody is shouting change, change. But we fail to see the change that the present government is effecting in different sectors of our economy.
One thing we fail to understand is that Nigeria cannot be fixed in a day, it's a gradual process to get to the promise land, and all I see is this government laying solid structures for economic growth. We want change but if we put sentiments aside we will see that the change is happening.
If there is a change in government and the new government doesn't continue with the good policies and plans of this present government, it would have failed.
Let's not forget that there's no gain without pain. Rome was not built in a day. There's no messiah that will do it overnight, not even buhari, cos he tried it before and ended up in a mess, which necessitated his removal. Rather than cut the tree from the root in an environment where you know thay when it falls, it can cause alot of damage and hurt people, first of all start cutting it from the top, cut a few branches before proceeding to cutting the tree itself step by step in small bits.. im likening this automotive policy to the story of the tree.. the govt just cut this tree in two places..its going to cause more harm than good |

megacool360: redcliff, the 70 percent wasn't effected all at once. The OP stated it started with 35 percent around february 2014 before the govt decided to increase it further by another 35 percent come the new year. So it's not as if the whole 70 percent came in at a go. Infact, until it becomes effected (if finally it will) come Jan 1, 2015, the import duty on tukumbo cars still remains 35 percent. Its still crazy.. i know it wasnt at once infact i enjoyed tge last part of jan 2014 when i escaped the first 35% increase.. what happened to slowly chipping it in, 15%, 15% 10% and 30% when you see that local "assemblers" are fully functional....in that way you spread that suffering over a long time period so that they dont complain too much..thats a govt that has the best interest of the people at heart |

Collynzo22: 99% of Nigerians buying used cars do not know the owner, history or even the country the were used in. When it comes to Nigerian made used car it is even better, because you can get to buy it directly from the original owner, so what are you talking about? The power sector is a work in progress, things are going on simultaneously. Nigerians buying tokunbo cars need not know the owners for the following reasons 1. The roads are extremely good.. you are sure that the underneath of the car did not hit the floor not even once in its lets say 12years of existence. 2. The govt has well regulated the technical maintenance of your car in such a way that you are highly obligated to according to your manufacturer's/ environmental specification always ensure that your car is regularly serviced at the specified time with specified manufacturer's parts. 3. The govt of any sane country has emission standards, technical standards, usability standards.. you cannot fail to default in these areas otherwise youl dance to the music. 4. With the VIN or chasis number the history of the vehicle is recorded.. Quick question, what kills a car in nigeria and which of these mentioned four points i clearly gave we have/practice to lets say 20%? |

Collynzo22: Things do not just happen like that, you make them to happen. I don't think there was ever a time when those countries were importing 2nd hand cars from abroad while potential manufactures at home were suffering. We have just taken a step to correct that. By the time we start maufacturing fully, used ones will also be cheaper because we won't have to import them but they will be Nigerian made used cars. I doubt that... i would not buy a nigerian car i dont know the owner and history.. so would so many other people.. you dont know what roads those cars drove on, what incompetent mechanic handled the vehicle before your purchase.. if you look closely.. every sector of nigeria is intertwined... you cant expect to fix one and leave one dying.. it would come back to poke you..you fix the rails but you dont fix electricity which modern trsin system are being powered on.. tell me, would the railway system stand the test of time? You introduce an automotive policy but your electricity generation capacity is just 4000mw.. its only a matter if time the system would implode! |

How many countries allow second hand cars pass through their borders? We have not gotten to that point. Infact in adv economies, it would be extremely foolish (not like it cant be done) to buy a tokunbo vehicle from other countries because they manufacture these things there, you have the opportunity of enjoying a fantastic credit facility once you have a verifiable means of id from that country and there are high quality used cars you can purchase at a fantastic price that is below the cost price of a new one...tell me, which does nigeria have? |

kennaustine: ^^^ Whats really wrong with y'all APC propagandist? The increase in tariffs for imported automobile is to encourage local automobile manufacturers. Common SS2 Economics student will tell you that one way of encouraging local production is increasing import tariffs. That's called Import Substitution Strategy. Aren't you ashamed that Nigeria has become a dumping ground for every kind of crap produced in other climes? We have Innoson, PAN, ANNAMCO, VON, Nissan and other automobile manufacturers in Nigeria and we know that government is trying to revitalize them so as to boosts our economy. Yet you criticize this one very good move government makes to see to its realization. Many of these imported cars have been used for above five years and then they're moved to Nigeria for dumping, after which when you buy, you'll use for no more than three years and the money u would have spent on repairs and maintenance may have exceeded the original cost. Some brand new Innoson cars go for 1.5m and they're trying to beat it down to 1m. So which is better ; buying a brand new car for 1.5m and enjoying it for 3 to 4 years without excessive repair cost or buying a tokie car for 800thousand and spending over 500thousand on repairs in 3 years. A relation of mine has spent about 300th on repairs on a tokie car he bought for about 800th and the car IS STILL HAVING ISSUES. Wont it have been better to just buy a brand new made-in-Nigeria car and save yourself some unecessary stress. Why are we so used to cheap craps and worthless articles? Is that what APC wants for us? SMH. Which way Nigeria? #SeeBeyondPropaganda I understand you but we are not there yet.. why should it be as high as 70 percent? You cant compare us to advanced countries that have higher purchasing powers to buy new cars.. and they do not pay in full.. its paid over a time period and the big difference is that an ordinary man in nigeria cannot enjoy that credit facility because there are no systematic structures in place that ensures you can pay it over the time period sitpulated in your contract..whereas in advanced countries, your identification number and good credit standing is all you need. So you can sèe a normal person picking up an expensive car to drive. But in nigeria, you either have to have a verifiable job with a big company before you enjoy a credit facility on an automobile..even at that you are still limited in your choice of an automobile..do you see the difference? What im trying to say is that rather than just force it down our throats with full force, its better to gradually increase it in a way that by the time it gets to 70% all the local assembling companies should be in full capacity. Right now most of them are not even started..what choice do you leave the average person with? |
