Just felt like opening a thread for us to announce the death of our loved ones, or if a nairalander kicks the bucket , so we can offer prayers and send our condolences individually to the appropriate quarters.

Check out the little space they have given women in Nigeria (except Ette), I think they have a good score!
Good governance has little to do with intelligence. Iyabo Obasanjo and Prof Grange both had doctorate degrees, so you won't say they are not intelligent but what was their score in the civil service? I would say the guys have more tendency to commit crime than the women besides, a woman may take N5M in a pile of N100m for her personal use but send a man there, he'll take N98M out of the N100M. Before you go further in your theory, remember Albert Einstein was a man, dropped out of college but became the genius of all time. I'm yet to see a woman as smart as him.
Family › Re: Are Female Children More Intelligent? by RedHotChic(f): 6:39am On Jun 25, 2008
Female children have bigger brains than their male counterparts? Not only is their very little,if any correlation, between brain size and intelligence,I have never seen evidence to support your claims about relative brain size.
Bottomline: There is no correlation between brain size and intelligence. As a matter of fact, males have bigger brains than females.

I think we women should stop patting ourselves on the shoulder over this intelligence thing. The US media tells women they are overtly smarter than men but they keep taking a sucker punch from men daily. Some of the dumb things we do cannot be done by the lamest street boy whom we presume to be more stupid than a female goat. How wrong are we. I think it's time we get off the high horse and view work towards measuring up, if not surpassing these men and don't tell me that women get stupid most times because they are more emotional because I've seen very emotional guys that are strange to stupidity.

Physically, girls grow quicker than boys until age 13, mature sexually before boys and sometimes, mature mentally faster than men. We are too quick to mix up mental maturity with intelligence but they are not the same.

Finally, academic intelligence is not a measure of total intelligence. If your daughter is smart in math, physics etc, it doesnt mean she'll beat your son hands down in making an impromptu judgment when they are faced with a dangerous situation. That is also a test of intelligence, it's like claiming that a university graduate is more intelligent than an area boy.

I have given my kidney to my church priest so I don't see it a problem of giving it to my love one. If he dumps you, its his bad cause his karma will be minus one and yours is a plus 1 cause you save a life in this life. Its a good deed and it will cost you a better life in your next life. . . Well, that is if you believe in reincarnation and karma.
Did you do it because you wanted to do it or because you were promised a better life whenever you reincarnate?

Obama Accused of 'Distorting' Bible
By ERIC GORSKI,AP

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (June 24) - As Barack Obama broadens his outreach to evangelical voters, one of the movement's biggest names, James Dobson, accuses the likely Democratic presidential nominee of distorting the Bible and pushing a "fruitcake interpretation" of the Constitution.

The criticism, to be aired Tuesday on Dobson's Focus on the Family radio program, comes shortly after an Obama aide suggested a meeting at the organization's headquarters here, said Tom Minnery, senior vice president for government and public policy at Focus on the Family.

James C. Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family, left, says Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama "is dragging biblical understanding through the gutter."

The conservative Christian group provided The Associated Press with an advance copy of the pre-taped radio segment, which runs 18 minutes and highlights excerpts of a speech Obama gave in June 2006 to the liberal Christian group Call to Renewal. Obama mentions Dobson in the speech.

"Even if we did have only Christians in our midst, if we expelled every non-Christian from the United States of America, whose Christianity would we teach in the schools?" Obama said. "Would we go with James Dobson's or Al Sharpton's?" referring to the civil rights leader.

Dobson took aim at examples Obama cited in asking which Biblical passages should guide public policy - chapters like Leviticus, which Obama said suggests slavery is OK and eating shellfish is an abomination, or Jesus' Sermon on the Mount, "a passage that is so radical that it's doubtful that our own Defense Department would survive its application."

"Folks haven't been reading their Bibles," Obama said.

Dobson and Minnery accused Obama of wrongly equating Old Testament texts and dietary codes that no longer apply to Jesus' teachings in the New Testament.

"I think he's deliberately distorting the traditional understanding of the Bible to fit his own worldview, his own confused theology," Dobson said.

", He is dragging biblical understanding through the gutter."

Joshua DuBois, director of religious affairs for Obama's campaign, said in a statement that a full reading of Obama's speech shows he is committed to reaching out to people of faith and standing up for families. "Obama is proud to have the support of millions of Americans of faith and looks forward to working across religious lines to bring our country together," DuBois said.

Dobson reserved some of his harshest criticism for Obama's argument that the religiously motivated must frame debates over issues like abortion not just in their own religion's terms but in arguments accessible to all people.

He said Obama, who supports abortion rights, is trying to govern by the "lowest common denominator of morality," labeling it "a fruitcake interpretation of the Constitution."

"Am I required in a democracy to conform my efforts in the political arena to his bloody notion of what is right with regard to the lives of tiny babies?" Dobson said. "What he's trying to say here is unless everybody agrees, we have no right to fight for what we believe."

The program was paid for by a Focus on the Family affiliate whose donations are taxed, Dobson said, so it's legal for that group to get more involved in politics.

Pregnancy Boom at Gloucester High

As summer vacation begins, 17 girls at Gloucester High School are expecting babies—more than four times the number of pregnancies the 1,200-student school had last year. Some adults dismissed the statistic as a blip. Others blamed hit movies like Juno and Knocked Up for glamorizing young unwed mothers. But principal Joseph Sullivan knows at least part of the reason there's been such a spike in teen pregnancies in this Massachusetts fishing town. School officials started looking into the matter as early as October after an unusual number of girls began filing into the school clinic to find out if they were pregnant. By May, several students had returned multiple times to get pregnancy tests, and on hearing the results, "some girls seemed more upset when they weren't pregnant than when they were," Sullivan says. All it took was a few simple questions before nearly half the expecting students, none older than 16, confessed to making a pact to get pregnant and raise their babies together. Then the story got worse. "We found out one of the fathers is a 24-year-old homeless guy," the principal says, shaking his head.

The question of what to do next has divided this fiercely Catholic enclave. Even with national data showing a 3% rise in teen pregnancies in 2006—the first increase in 15 years—Gloucester isn't sure it wants to provide easier access to birth control. In any case, many residents worry that the problem goes much deeper. The past decade has been difficult for this mostly white, mostly blue-collar city (pop. 30,000). In Gloucester, perched on scenic Cape Ann, the economy has always depended on a strong fishing industry. But in recent years, such jobs have all but disappeared overseas, and with them much of the community's wherewithal. "Families are broken," says school superintendent Christopher Farmer. "Many of our young people are growing up directionless."

The girls who made the pregnancy pact—some of whom, according to Sullivan, reacted to the news that they were expecting with high fives and plans for baby showers—declined to be interviewed. So did their parents. But Amanda Ireland, who graduated from Gloucester High on June 8, thinks she knows why these girls wanted to get pregnant. Ireland, 18, gave birth her freshman year and says some of her now pregnant schoolmates regularly approached her in the hall, remarking how lucky she was to have a baby. "They're so excited to finally have someone to love them unconditionally," Ireland says. "I try to explain it's hard to feel loved when an infant is screaming to be fed at 3 a.m."

The high school has done perhaps too good a job of embracing young mothers. Sex-ed classes end freshman year at Gloucester, where teen parents are encouraged to take their children to a free on-site day-care center. Strollers mingle seamlessly in school hallways among cheerleaders and junior ROTC. "We're proud to help the mothers stay in school," says Sue Todd, CEO of Pathways for Children, which runs the day-care center.

But by May, after nurse practitioner Kim Daly had administered some 150 pregnancy tests at Gloucester High's student clinic, she and the clinic's medical director, Dr. Brian Orr, a local pediatrician, began to advocate prescribing contraceptives regardless of parental consent, a practice at about 15 public high schools in Massachusetts. Currently Gloucester teens must travel about 20 miles (30 km) to reach the nearest women's health clinic; younger girls have to get a ride or take the train and walk. But the notion of a school handing out birth control pills has met with hostility. Says Mayor Carolyn Kirk: "Dr. Orr and Ms. Daly have no right to decide this for our children." The pair resigned in protest on May 30.

Gloucester's elected school committee plans to vote later this summer on whether to provide contraceptives. But that won't do much to solve the issue of teens wanting to get pregnant. Says rising junior Kacia Lowe, who is a classmate of the pactmakers': "No one's offered them a better option." And better options may be a tall order in a city so uncertain of its future. —with reporting by Kimberley McLeod/New York

What do you think is responsible for this kind of behaviour? These 17 teenagers sure do not have any home training, thats why they think that getting pregnant is a game. One of them was even knocked up by a homeless man. Imagine?

Lol, Sly will love this kind of contract.

Na true ooo! But everything changes when we are talking of step dads! At this point he come later! Grin

Well we just have to learn to set our priorities!
No man wants to come later just like no woman would want a man to place his children from another woman before her. I bet you, if he gets a figment of an idea that he's been relegated to the back seat, the exit door will be his next interest. I think that we should first of all be careful of whom we marry if we are already parents, accord the person full respect and as long as the spouse can fit in for the absent parent(or even better), he/she should be placed paramount to the children and their wishes. I've seen women that lost their husbands because they want them to dance not only to their tunes but to their childrens tunes too and most of these kids out here end up either in the street or knocked up by one urchin because their mother was over protective and never allowed the man in her life to help lead them to the right direction. I repeat, I'd rather end up with no child than with one useless one. Whip them, discipline them and do not mercy the rod.

But seriously, I don't have anything on normal everyday women
It's the ones that feel they can control the world that I have beef with

Ever wondered why it's called 'LE MONDE' in French?
Are there women that wish for that? All they ask is for equal rights and equal opportunities with their male counterparts. How will they wish to control the world when they are fighting masculine control?
