Politics / Re: Do Generator Dealers Contribute To The Power Failure In The Country? by Rednose: 7:02am On Jun 03, 2013
The use of fuel generators is expensive. You purchase your fuel generator and still have to fuel it with petrol, diesel or gas. Let's think more of solar, wind and hydro-electricity. I remember being thrilled the first time I saw mini-wind mills in some locations in Lagos. Home-owners who haven't explored renewable energy should think about this alternative. The start-up cost for alternative energy is high, but there are long-term benefits. The sun is free and so is the wind. We do need to kick against the use of fuel generators, they are noisy and very unhealthy.

PHCN is taking us for a ride, we can't keep relying on them as a nation if we are to move forward. Electricity is so important, and it's one of the major reasons we are still underdeveloped. Electricity is so important, yet this thread has only 2 pages.

Although the protest that was organized by Light-Up Nigeria against Nig.'s erratic electricity supply some years ago is commendable, we need more pragmatic solutions. One of them is boy-cotting the purchase of fuel generators. Lets campaign for the production of clean, noiseless and renewable electricity.

born2fuckpussy: If generators did not exist, electricity would have been stable because all the high profiles people and government officials will not have others plan other than get the problem solved and would have been solved more than a decade ago, its obvious since other countries have been living without generators, nigeria will never carry last just like the internet and and e-payment

Isn't it high time we boy-cott the purchase of fuel generators? After all, there are better alternatives.

Obiagelli: How did they come about the age, should be an interesting visit for me

According to Olofin II Olofindji Akande, archaeologists claim that the underground village was founded about 450,000 years ago and was one of the places where the first inhabitants of the world lived.

Nairaland / General / 450,000 Year-old Igbale Aiye (origin Of Mankind) by Rednose: 10:36am On Jun 01, 2013
Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, his counterpart from the State of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, in company of Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, yesterday visited Igbale Aiye, a village believed to be the origin of mankind.

Igbale Aiye community, said to be 450,000 years old, is in Apotoku, Ketu (Commune de Ketou), Republic of Benin.

Speaking during the Convention of ‘The City-Headquarters of Humanism’ (Igbale Aiye), organised by Africa-Cultures International Institute and the Government of Republic of Benin, the state governors and Nobel Laureate, according to a statement by Funmi Wakama, media aide of Governor Amosun, commended the vision of Olofindji Akande, the promoter of Igbale Aiye project.

They called for concerted efforts to promote African culture and values.

Amosun promised to support the project in line with his administration’s vision to promote the African culture. He said Ogun had been associated with many firsts and “this project is first of its kind.”

Aregbesola said further research should be carried out on the link between the Egyptian Pyramids and Igbale Aiye.

For his part, Soyinka said the Centre for Black Culture and International Understanding had adopted the Igba Aiye initiative because of its historical significance.

The visitors were conducted round the relics of the 450,000-year-old underground village said to host the first inhabitants of our planet world “where the builders of the pyramids of Egypt came from.”

The two governors and culture icon later planted banana trees to commemorate the 2013 Convention.

Crime / UK Arrests Arik Crew Members For Drug Trafficking by Rednose: 1:22pm On May 22, 2013
Two crew members of Airk Air were on Monday arrested by the United Kingdom Border Force for being in possession of substances suspected to be cocaine.

A statement by the Head of Press and Public Affairs Section, British High Commission, Rob Fitzpatrick, on Tuesday confirmed the arrest of the crew members.

He said, “The two, Nigerian women aged 37 and 32, who worked for the airline Arik Air, had arrived on a flight from Lagos, Nigeria on the evening of Monday, May 20.

“They were arrested after a package of drugs was discovered by Border Force officers on a bus which had been used to transport air crew.

“It is estimated that the cocaine, if cut and sold on the UK streets, could have had a potential street value of around £600,000.

“The pair remain in Border Force custody where they will be questioned further.”

The statement quoted Border Force Heathrow Director, Marc Owen, as saying, “Border Force officers at Heathrow are at the forefront of the fight to stop class A drugs reaching UK streets and harming our communities.

“Drug trafficking is a serious offence and those convicted face long prison sentences.”

Meanwhile, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency on Tuesday said it was investigating the arrest of the crew members.

A statement by the anti-narcotics agency said its Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Ahmadu Giade, ordered the investigation.

The statement quoted the Head, Public Affairs, NDLEA, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, as saying the crew members, Temitayo Daramola and Delita Abibimgbi, were found in possession of six kilogrammes of cocaine and 60 packets of cigarettes respectively.

The Arik Air flight reportedly took off from the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos on Monday.

The statement added that eight of the 10-crew members in the aircraft were cleared, while the remaining two were still being held in London.

It said, “We have received report of the arrest and I have ordered a full scale investigation of the incident. Anyone found wanting shall be brought to book as no effort shall be spared in protecting the image of our country”.

In its reaction, a statement by the Arik Air Communications Manager, Mr. Adebanji Ola, quoted the airline as saying it was cooperating with the authorities on the matter.

Ola said, “The attention of the management of Arik Air has been drawn to the detention in UK of two of its cabin crew members in connection with alleged possession of items suspected to be banned substances.”

Innocent people were killed in Kano, yes. They should go and get the terrorists who did it. Why bundled innocent women and children including babies into inhuman detention camp for years?

It's really unfortunate, but when bringing down hard criminals, sometimes the innocent go down too. How innocent are these people anyway? You all saw HUMAN BEINGS being slaughtered, and you people were quiet. You know them and you do not inform the police? Good muslims in Kenya protected a church targeted for bombing! What have you done in the North However, my questions to are yet to be answered. You were quiet when churches were bombed, travellers roasted, the list goes on. Now you are protesting against the human rights of muslim women and children. Come to the South West and see northerners and northern muslims living in AMAZING PEACE, yet other Nigerians, christians and non-northerners have been forced to leave property and move back home. My fellow Nigerian, don't be biased toward a particular group!!

after thorough investigation the sss and military police and all intelligence agencies have been able to identify the innocent and the guilty ones,so pls tell me why should they still be detained and locked up for no crime.
texaco1, kindly provide the source of this information.

secondly this issue had been one of the requests and conditions for peace given by boko haram and its sponsors that their women are been abused and locked up by the army and that it wll start killing school children as retaliation which they did by killing waec candidates lately
Is it prudent to negotiate with terrorists? You hunt them down and kill them!

thirdly ppl must understand that this decison was arrived at aafter meet with the senate president ,house of reps, miltary cheifs and local leaders in the north ,
Well, majority of Nairalanders don't like this decision. Too many Nigerians have died to justify the decision! Too many...

Happily the nigeria bar assoc gombe branch is already looking at cases of violtion of human rights under soe in the noth east, hopefully those people`s lawyers will take up the case of these unfortunate muslim women and children persecuted by gej because of their faith.

Musa, did you protest when our fellow Nigerians who were on their way home were bombed in Kano motor park, did you? I am against the violation of human rights of any persons muslim or otherwise. However, I try to be objective and non-biased in every way. So tell me, did not our murdered fellow Nigerians have HUMAN RIGHTS as well?

Boko Haram is EVIL, so if suspected members have been captured, I don't agree that they should be released back so quickly to the society. Not until these brainwashed persons have undergone thorough rehab to explain how significant a human life is, that property built with hard earned money should not be destroyed. Besides, they shouldn't be released until they are found innocent of any wrong doing. Many of our people in the north have been killed for crying out loud!!!

How are they innocent? In Libya recently, when a car bomb was detonated in the streets; Libyans came out to protest against the evil act. In Kenya muslims encircled a church targeted for bombing by the local terrorist group. What have these 'innocent' people done to say 'enough of these killings against our fellow Nigerians??' WHAT?? Nothing!!! Instead, they accommodate these terrorists in their towns and villages. Haven't you heard of good Nigerians who the inform NPF of kidnappers, armed robbers and other criminals? Why didn't they act likewise? Until you lose a family member or close friend (God forbid), you probably won't know the level of havoc and destruction this evil group has caused in Nigeria.

'The federal government however explained that the decision to order the release is sequel to the request of the Presidential Committee in Dialogue and Reconciliation set up to explore the possibility of amnesty for converted terrorists' This excerpt from Vanguard online suggests that the Presidency still plans to embark on amnesty for these killers. Do terrorists change? These are people who have dedicated their lives to killing others, now the FG is talking about reforms!!! The only reform I can think of is converting them from Islam to Love for God is love.

Expressing yourself correctly and explicitly on Nairaland, other fora and online social sites is in your own best interest. Personally, I hate to read badly written English, and I strongly believe the same of majority of Nigerians who have worked hard to achieve well spoken and written English. Believe me, people take you more seriously when you have a good command of the English language. So go ahead, improve your English and show it off on Nairaland and else where; you'll be glad you did smiley.

Your post is really helpful, infact, I've taken notes from your afang soup recipe, it's been a while since I had that lovely dish. However, I kinda disagree with going to catering school just to learn to cook at home. I started to cook much more later than Nadia - in my late 20s, I watched Maggi Kitchen, BBC Foods, Food Network, used recipe cut-outs from Nigerian newspapers, Food Magazines, asked lots of questions etc. And now, I cook up awesome meals both local and intercontinental.
Cooking is a pretty much easy task than some people would have us believe, it just can be time consuming and tiring, but with good planning - very rewarding.
Enrolling at catering school is a good idea, but not obligatory.
Thanks again for the recipe.

Family / Re: What Do You Do When You Are Angry? by Rednose: 2:03pm On May 18, 2013
Nice topic, thanks for sharing. For me there are 3 kinds of anger; mild, intermediary and extreme. For mild to intermediary I confront the person when I am much less angry and in many cases I got an apology and a stop to the bone of contention or cause of anger. For extreme cases where someone angers me repeatedly and I feel my right as a Nigerian or human is being violated, I go to the police to report the case (this has only happened twice & they were really extreme cases), on that day I truly believe that ' the police is my friend' (even though I hate the general attitude of the regular Nigerian policeman/woman). In traffic, the kind of anger I feel is usually extreme and I react immediately, I yell and use not-so-polite signs. I hate to do these, but sometimes some drivers are so inconsiderate, so selfish and so impolite that at that moment I just can't help it. Best remedy? Stay calm, leave the incidence-environment and do a polite confrontation later when you are less angry (of course, this is in a case where you are dealing with an acquaintance) smiley.

Cake lovers and enthusiasts who critiqued this work with a thumbs-down did so because they have an aesthetic appreciation of a classic work of art - cake in this case. The baker may be praised for his effort but certainly not for his creativity. Nairalanders should let foodies to comment on this one. Theutopianex, I absolutely agree with you, unlike the cakes I see on TLC's Cakeboss and on Food Network's dessert programs, this one doesn't even whet my appetite and I LOOOOVE cakes. If I saw this picture anywhere and wasn't told it was cake, I'd think it was something else ...Better luck next time to the baker.

It's quite expensive to buy a car in Nigeria, unlike in some European countries or in the U.S, so when that car finally arrives you need to give thanks.
Travel / Re: Why Don't Africans Spend Their Holidays More In Africa by Rednose: 8:52am On Apr 30, 2013
Some of the posts here reveal we know little or nothing about the travel-habit of Nigerians. There are nigerian families who can't afford holidays beyond the West African region, thus they visit Cameroon, The Gambia, Ghana etc. Some even go to the closest neighbours - Cameroon, Rep. of Benin & Niger. This is not to say wealthy nigerians don't visit Ghana, Togo etc, they do. Nigerians also visit tourist attractions such as IITA (Ibadan), Obudu Resort, Ikogosi Springs (Ekiti state). Tourism (both local & int'l) in Northern Nigeria has reduced due to terrorism. It's totally untrue to say don't Nigerians vacation locally - we do.

12. He doesn't seem that interested in intimacy. If your sex life with dude is little to nothing then: 1. it's due to respect for himself & for his lady, he may want to wait till much later, perhaps till he's sure he wants to be with you forever. 2. Religion or moral principles could make a man decide to wait for sex until much later, sometimes till marriage. Also, he may be a virgin who isn't ready for sex. 3. He doesn't enjoy sex with you because you are an amateur, boring or lazy in bed. 4. His thingy is really small and he's too ashamed to show it off just yet. 5.He's gay. Ofcourse, there are other reasons why a guy may not want to get intimate besides these, but never assume or conclude that sex is one of them.

How do i know all these, whenever they quarrel, which they did alot, they always blabbed about it and the woman never fails to express her displeasure with the man always going to the market.
caution: We need to be careful about information that gets to the media about other people, even if their identity is unknown. Section 37 of the Nigeria Constitution states: 'The privacy of citizens, their homes, correspondence, telephone conversations and telegraphic communications is hereby guaranteed and protected'. There is a privacy law that protects 'quarrels' in another person's home.
