Jakumo: On a visit to Las Vegas some moons ago, I was struck by the disproportionate number of far eastern women, invariably of Chinese descent, who sat around those Blackjack tables and calmly placed bets purchased with TALL stacks of hundred dollar bills. Though a non-gambler myself, I recall being memerized by the zen-like composure with which those big-time players made and lost fortunes at the turn of a card.
I didn't notice as many Africans or African Americans as I expected to see in Sin City, which probably contrasts with life across the pond in the UK where there is a horse racing bookie shop to draw in gamblers on every other city block. You are right, vegas is more for the rich that have too much money to waste sometimes, millionaires playground.African american are more at home at atlantic city,in new jersey or so and if there are betting houses in america like in england, that will be the favorite spots,if you ever find one, take a peep. In england, the black chronic gamblers are more at in betting houses like william hills and whatever they are called not exactly in casinos. |

Gambling wrecks lives here among blacks like drugs. Some are so hooked to it to the point that it comes before any other thing in their life. There are loads of broken homes, neglected children, lost careers and jail times among blacks here as a result of gambling, west indians especially,i don't particularly know of africans, apart from few east africans, ethiopians and eriteans. |
Politics › Western Blacks And Gambling Addiction by redsun(op): 5:41pm On Jun 09, 2010 |
Why is gambling an epidemic among blacks, especially men in the west,ie,african american men and west indians? It is so chronic among them to the extent that taking their pay packets home is a always a stroke of luck for their dependents.
William hill and all the shylock gambling houses are always filled with blackmen, old and young, day in day out in britain.
What makes a man think he will be successful from gambling?stupidity? |

I can DECODE a African American's scowl. (because I relate to him/her and can detect from which her inner pain could be coming from)
I cannot decode a foreigners scowl, and I suspect that foreigner MIS-READ Black Americans. Haven't u seen a thread on this same forum that says nigerians are the happiest people in the world? That is not a joke,u know, average nigerians are always full of hope in the face of hopelessness,we don't give up,no matter what.We are born into a world of total chaos as a result of bad leadership and international politics and we always strive to put in order. Among nigerians, there are less drunkenness(alcoholics),less junkies and less suicide, even with the hopeless leadership and obstacles, nigerians don't easily lose their minds. We are thick skin man and we don't bither the unnecessaries |

The greatest problem of most nigerians is that they don't know what patriotism mean. The so called nationalist layed the foundation of what is suppose to be one country on the platform of tribalism, naivety, ignorance, victimization, sectionalism, corruption, looting and all the characteristics of a failed venture which lingers on till date. And yet,the so-called 21st inhabitants still can't see that there is no way forward following that trend.
There is enough to go round every nigeria,if only we can just be a little bit responsible and rational.Man is not created to be in want or to be glorifying half baked achivements, the only one that lacks is the one that is foolish. |

and you said countries - Arabs and ethiopians worked as kingdoms and caliphates- not as countries There were no "african countries" in the 1800's other than SA-which had a white settler colony from EUROPE.
you are trying to make a different argument address what I said-
Fela was no match to Awo because fela didnt run a government- Please stick to the topic in term of development name anyone who was equal to Awo.
We are talking about government structure and development for governments during Awos time- I can careless about humanitarian Awards- That is what i am saying, comparing puppets does not make sense to rational minds.Awo can only make sense to tribal yorubas who probably see yoruba land as country but if one is seeing it on a general perspective as a nigerian, they are all failures and should be forgotten because their legacies are what nigeria is suffering today as a country |

isimili: hilarious. But people on a more serious note why are we condemning the Oba's genuine intentions and invocations. The man has had enough and cant wait forever for our paralytic corrupt politicians who are concentrating on how to rig 2011 elections. but Don't forget that before oyibo man carry religion come this worked for them. The key to these psychological warfares is belief. If you believe in the Gods of your fathers and nothing more and truly condition your mind that he is working for you, then who knows it might be a very idiotic thing to do but your mindset whether or not anything happens will make you believe that you have won the warfare. Again the so called criminals believe in juju and would even go to the juju man to ask for powers before they set off on their criminal ventures. there is a popular saying that we must give to Cesar what is due to him and God what is due to him. Since these poor souls believe in the devilish power of the jujus of this world, it might be that the Oba can match their ignorance and frighten them with what they believe in. On the other hand for those of us who believe in God, we should simply distance ourselves from the Oba and his gang and let them speak to themselves in the language they understand.
The main point we are missing is what is the cause of crimes in our society? In my mind, unlawful display of affluence by criminals dressed like politicians, total failure of leadership and absolute breakdown in law and order in our country. EFCC was set up to deal with corruption but what have they achieved to date? the same people that set them up including crazy boy boy of aso rock andooaka are also making gigantic efforts to block them from bringing to justice. they steal all the money, destroy infrastructure and create no employment for the youths. what do you expect in a society like that? Ride on Oba. Though in modern day ideology, your ideas can be simply designated as silly or psychotic, if you believe in it and the criminals do too, the go for it. we are watching from the sidelines. Well said. |

Nigeria is a land where the ruling elders are foolish and what does it say of the of the FOLLOW FOLLOW youths?doom, unless there is a 'divine' intervention and the 'divine' intervention will emanate from the youths themselves, they will have to lift the veils off their eyes and begin to see and reason like living and progressive creatures not as they were foolishly taught to reason by the foolish elders. |
