In one country I know, a supply teacher can NEVER EVER afford to buy the party nomination forms from his salary. Heck, a University Professor may not afford the money.

I have one question for the Nigerians who voted for Reform yesterday.

Are you okay at all?
Not dissimilar to Nigerians who vote(d) Tinubu or Buhari or Goodluck or Yar’adua or Obasanjo.

Hello people.
If I have NGN20,000,000 that I want to convert to GBP.
What will you suggest as the best method for me to get good bang for my buck?

Change it with Mallam in Lagos, put the ££ in my briefcase, or Infact, split half and put in my briefcase. And carry with me to London?

Do I wire it via bank?
What about online guys like LemFi?

Kemi must be singing 🎶"I'm serving a God who never fails..."🎶 on repeat right now 🤣

Because how is it that your enemy who was planning to defect to a rival party - and was allegedly plotting his resignation to inflict maximum humiliation- managed to leave a copy of his resignation speech laying around!!! It's like planning to abandon your company and leaving your application form to the new company on your desk for your manager to find 🤣🤣🤣 What a shambles!

Poor Jenrick. This was a spectacularly wrong move. He was a big beast in the Conservatives and was in pole position to replace Kemi in the near(ish) future - and recent polls show the Tories neck and neck with Labour - so they're not doing too badly considering.

And now he's been hoisted by his own petard and been humiliated and sacked publicly - and IF Farage still allows him to join Reform, he'll be relegated to the bottom of the greasy pole . Big Ego Farage will probably make him his lackey 🤣
George Orwell’s ending of Animal Farm is playing out here: Man-Animal-Man-Animal-Man-Animal … so confusing you don’t know which is which.

Reform uses every Opportunity to say how messed up the Tories are/were.
Now, you look at the Reform line up, and you cannot but think… surely this is Tories v2.0

Interesting times ahead.

How many U - turns, can one ruling party undertake, before the government is deemed incompetent...... 😂🤣

That our sister from Labour, needs to have a word with KS...... 🤣
I mentioned about a zillion times on this thread that the UK Labour Party (in opposition) is/was as clueless, incompetent & not ready to lead (just as Nigeria’s APC in 2014).

You know that something is amiss if our former Mrs Labour Party (who likes to call her opponents far right, but is unhappy if she is classed as far left) goes mute. Totally mute.

You know that the UK Labour Party under KS is so hopeless when you see that our dearest missjekyll has now been relegated to Naija Nairaland stories.

Last I heard, someone said it’s like she moved to the Green Party Abi was it Corbyn & Zarah Sultana’s party sef?

On a serious note. These U-Turns are now embarrassing.

Probably best to be completely sure before posting on this thread. People come here for information.
The government updated the guidance to make it much harder for landlords to blame tenants. The guidance makes it clear that ordinary use, including drying laundry, is not a cause of damp. (And I know this is correct because despite all my laundry being air dried indoors in winter, there is no damp in my house).

WE ARE NOT INCREASING TAXES FOR WORKING PEOPLE.

ALL WE ARE DOING IS WE ARE ASKING WORKING PEOPLE TO CONTRIBUTE A LITTLE MORE.

IF WORKING PEOPLE CONTRIBUTE MORE, WE CAN USE THE CONTRIBUTIONS TO LIFT THE CHILDREN OF NON/PARTIALLY WORKING PEOPLE OUT OF POVERTY.

That ‘fair & normal’ was already factored in.

Is there an interim permanent resident status at least that confers some rights and benefits?
After 15 years, you will have the right to vote (and to be voted for, at least on paper).
It is when you attempt to contest to be the councillor of the village where you have lived for 15+ years. That’s when you will know if you are a citizen of Nigeria or an Indigene of Nigeria.

Lagosians?
I wish the issue was only restricted to ‘Lagosians’.
Whereas Lagos has its issues, the Lagos state House of Assembly could have Osawe, Osaze, Isibhakhomen, Olusola (from Ekiti) or Adewale (from Oșògbò) as members of state parliament.
Can you say the same thing in Edo, Delta, Imo, Plateau or Kebbi states?

Even those who are citizens (read: Indigenes), have different rights from Indigenes.

I think that needs to change about Nigeria.

If a Lebanese man moves to Ikeja or Aba and sets up a Business. How long will it take for him to be eligible to become a Nigerian citizen?

Or, if a Xhosa babe from South Africa gets a job as data analyst with Dangote Cement factory in Ajakouta, Kogi state in 2020. How many more years remains for her to get Nigeria citizenship?

I honestly want to know the Nigeria rules around naturalisation and citizenship.

I hate to say ‘I told you so’
But just over a year ago, I warned (our very vocal ‘far left activist’) MissJekyll that the people she is painting as saints are not saints.

I warned that the Uk labour was like Nigeria’s APC in the 2015 elections.

While cost of living is steadily rising. Taxes (employer NI) are rising. Labour is threatening to ‘tax the rich’ to oblivion. Guess who is dodging payment of tax?

Hi, as you will have seen we have applied for us to be responsible for Council tax for the building

This saves you money

The Local Authority have agreed & have backdated to December 2023

It looks likely YOU will receive a refund on some of your council tax payments from December 2023 (depending on when your tenancy began)

For you it's possible to be at least £1,000 or more for you (we don't know details)

However we are likely to be faced with a significant bill of over £5,000 to pay for the tax back to 2023

Therefore we need the tenants receiving refunds to contribute some of their refunds towards the bill - probably around 35% (you'd still get a big refund)

When we get the information we'll confirm
The refund is backdated to 2023.
In 2023, you had not even applied for a UK visa. Infact, in that 2023, you probably hadn’t considered japa-ing to the UK.

How then are you eligible for refund? A refund covering a period you were in Africa?

Make it make sense

Australia had problems with illegal arrivals on boats.
How did the Aussies solve it?
The UK Labour Govt should use the Australian model. It worked before, it can still work for the UK.

All this talk about ‘smashing the gangs’ and 1-in-1-out is nonsense.

While in opposition, David Lammy uses EVERY single opportunity he has to cry out and advocate for SAFE LEGAL ROUTES for asylum seekers. What happened to that?

Now, most of the illegal boat arrivals come in from France, right? The UK has a consulate in France don’t they? Can the UK not open small consulate office annexes in Calais? Then the UK post their officials there. All prospective asylum seekers go to the UK-manned posts in Calais to apply for asylum. Any successful applicants are granted asylum visas and the UK facilitates their travel via Eurostar.

With this firmly established, No ‘asylum’ seeker can arrive in a boat and be expected to not be treated as an illegal.

With that firmly established, the UK now applies the Australian model. Infact, if they can’t get a 3rd country (like Rwanda), they can place huge ‘Bibby Stockholm’s’ at sea. Any dinghy arrivals are put in the Ships and taken back to their home countries, without their feet touching the ground.

The EcHR cannot accuse the UK of breaking the law, since the UK can point at the consulate/embassy annexes in Calais.

Problem solved.
Nigel no longer has a small boats argument.
Labour succeeds where the Tories failed.

Labour becomes the darling of the UK.
Everyone is happy.
Even our previous Nairaland Labour Party chairwoman will return to this thread.

Happy Days!

Going through the threads here, I wonder. Some people (who were only able to ‘finally’ japa from nigeria because of ‘BorisWave’) became hugely critical of the Tories. Calling the Tories anti-immigration and racist etc… I wonder if they still feel the same with 2-tier Kier at the wheels.

You are right especially on that Mortgage aspect.

It crossed my mind this year but given the precedents of the U.K government, I shelved the idea and decided to see what I can get at home first. Turns out my instincts were right. grin
My opinion is:
Get the mortgage, if you can. When shite finally hits the ceiling and you need to return to Naij, you sell the house (hopefully you’ve built equity). You get something back.
But if you are perpetual rent, then when you have to return, your landlord gets to keep ALl you have paid on rents.
