In one country I know, a supply teacher can NEVER EVER afford to buy the party nomination forms from his salary. Heck, a University Professor may not afford the money.

RodgersAkpafu:Not dissimilar to Nigerians who vote(d) Tinubu or Buhari or Goodluck or Yar’adua or Obasanjo. |
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c3wlww83yv4o Interesting BBC article. Lessons there in for our community.

Hello people. If I have NGN20,000,000 that I want to convert to GBP. What will you suggest as the best method for me to get good bang for my buck? Change it with Mallam in Lagos, put the ££ in my briefcase, or Infact, split half and put in my briefcase. And carry with me to London? Do I wire it via bank? What about online guys like LemFi? |
China is not the enemy of the UK, after all.

Zahra29:George Orwell’s ending of Animal Farm is playing out here: Man-Animal-Man-Animal-Man-Animal … so confusing you don’t know which is which. Reform uses every Opportunity to say how messed up the Tories are/were. Now, you look at the Reform line up, and you cannot but think… surely this is Tories v2.0 Interesting times ahead. |
Lexusgs430:I mentioned about a zillion times on this thread that the UK Labour Party (in opposition) is/was as clueless, incompetent & not ready to lead (just as Nigeria’s APC in 2014). You know that something is amiss if our former Mrs Labour Party (who likes to call her opponents far right, but is unhappy if she is classed as far left) goes mute. Totally mute. You know that the UK Labour Party under KS is so hopeless when you see that our dearest missjekyll has now been relegated to Naija Nairaland stories. Last I heard, someone said it’s like she moved to the Green Party Abi was it Corbyn & Zarah Sultana’s party sef? On a serious note. These U-Turns are now embarrassing. |
Goodenoch:I think it’s not a coincidence that you selected a username moniker which portrays you as the direct opposite of Kemi’s husband’s family name. I think you are obsessed with that woman. |
missjekyll:Yipeeee!!!! Look who is here, our dearest MissJekyll herself. You are welcome (back). Where have you been dear? We (oh well, I) have missed you on these streets. Hope you were not affected by the removal of the non-dom thing by the current Labour Government? I learned you are now paying very little tax since the labour govt decided to instead, ‘tax the life out’ of billionaires. Welcome back. |
WE ARE NOT INCREASING TAXES FOR WORKING PEOPLE. ALL WE ARE DOING IS WE ARE ASKING WORKING PEOPLE TO CONTRIBUTE A LITTLE MORE. IF WORKING PEOPLE CONTRIBUTE MORE, WE CAN USE THE CONTRIBUTIONS TO LIFT THE CHILDREN OF NON/PARTIALLY WORKING PEOPLE OUT OF POVERTY. |
As seen on LinkedIn PS: I am not endorsing or marketing. Just posting something that may be useful to someone

Gerrard59:Did you say fair & Normal? As an international student, I paid £23,000:00 per session while my classmates, home students paid £9,000. That ‘fair & normal’ was already factored in. The proposed 6% by this useless Labour government is ON TOP of the ‘fair & normal’. Sad! |
They want to impose a 6% TAX on International Students so that they will use the money to fund grants for ‘Home’ students!!!! The same international students that even after getting glossy paper UK degrees will wait a minimum of 10 years to get ILR? If I say this UK Labour Government has ALL the hallmarks of Nigeria’s 2015 APC, JamesClooney will come for me. But honestly… what sort of rubbish is that?? I am done putting up with this nonsense. @Jedisco, where are you? I think it’s time for me to consider Japa inside Japa. I have a very strong feeling that the Labour Party rep that used to be on this thread, MissJekyll has Japa’ed a long time ago.

2kLxxxuuu:You know Asia is a CONTINENT right? A Filipino gal is Asian A Chinese gal is Asian An Indian gal is Asian A Malaysian gal is Asian A gal from Guam is Asian A Brunei gal is Asian A North Korean gal is Asian A gal from Bhutan is Asian A Nepalese gal is Asian A gal from Kazakhstan is Asian Take your pick, then reframe your question. |
ehizario2012:You’ve helped buttress my point- reason why Lagos has proven to be more inclusive, more than ANY other state in Nigeria. |
Jamesclooney:You hate to see/hear my comparison because you know it’s true. Don’t try to garnish your rude comment with ‘respectfully’. I don’t need that ‘respect’. |
Another one bites the dust. It was on this platform I wrote last year. Labour Party UK 🇬🇧 is the same as 2015 Nigeria 🇳🇬 APC. So much talk. No substance. Clueless. Less than 22 hours ago, a PM stands at the dispatch box a 5 times reiterated he has confidence in the man. Says a lot about the ‘process’ in Mr Keir’s world.

Zahra29:After 15 years, you will have the right to vote (and to be voted for, at least on paper). It is when you attempt to contest to be the councillor of the village where you have lived for 15+ years. That’s when you will know if you are a citizen of Nigeria or an Indigene of Nigeria. |
ehizario2012:Lagosians? I wish the issue was only restricted to ‘Lagosians’. Whereas Lagos has its issues, the Lagos state House of Assembly could have Osawe, Osaze, Isibhakhomen, Olusola (from Ekiti) or Adewale (from Oșògbò) as members of state parliament. Can you say the same thing in Edo, Delta, Imo, Plateau or Kebbi states? Even those who are citizens (read: Indigenes), have different rights from Indigenes. I think that needs to change about Nigeria. |
missb50:When you have done your research, and known how much a foreigner will have to pay in visa costs and renewals for the 15 year period, then you can come back here and we can have a conversation about paying ‘through their noses’. |
KOVIC19COVID20:15 Years. Don’t ask me whether after 15 years, the new Nigerian Citizen has all the rights and privileges of a Nigerian INDIGENE.

I hate to say ‘I told you so’ But just over a year ago, I warned (our very vocal ‘far left activist’) MissJekyll that the people she is painting as saints are not saints. I warned that the Uk labour was like Nigeria’s APC in the 2015 elections. While cost of living is steadily rising. Taxes (employer NI) are rising. Labour is threatening to ‘tax the rich’ to oblivion. Guess who is dodging payment of tax? The Labour Deputy Prime Minister! https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/crm4mxrg40pt

rock86:The refund is backdated to 2023. In 2023, you had not even applied for a UK visa. Infact, in that 2023, you probably hadn’t considered japa-ing to the UK. How then are you eligible for refund? A refund covering a period you were in Africa? Make it make sense |
Australia had problems with illegal arrivals on boats. How did the Aussies solve it? The UK Labour Govt should use the Australian model. It worked before, it can still work for the UK. All this talk about ‘smashing the gangs’ and 1-in-1-out is nonsense. While in opposition, David Lammy uses EVERY single opportunity he has to cry out and advocate for SAFE LEGAL ROUTES for asylum seekers. What happened to that? Now, most of the illegal boat arrivals come in from France, right? The UK has a consulate in France don’t they? Can the UK not open small consulate office annexes in Calais? Then the UK post their officials there. All prospective asylum seekers go to the UK-manned posts in Calais to apply for asylum. Any successful applicants are granted asylum visas and the UK facilitates their travel via Eurostar. With this firmly established, No ‘asylum’ seeker can arrive in a boat and be expected to not be treated as an illegal. With that firmly established, the UK now applies the Australian model. Infact, if they can’t get a 3rd country (like Rwanda), they can place huge ‘Bibby Stockholm’s’ at sea. Any dinghy arrivals are put in the Ships and taken back to their home countries, without their feet touching the ground. The EcHR cannot accuse the UK of breaking the law, since the UK can point at the consulate/embassy annexes in Calais. Problem solved. Nigel no longer has a small boats argument. Labour succeeds where the Tories failed. Labour becomes the darling of the UK. Everyone is happy. Even our previous Nairaland Labour Party chairwoman will return to this thread. Happy Days! |
Anybody remember the debate last year when the (then) PM said Keir Starmer is clueless? Anyone recall when Rishi Sunak said based on Starmer’s plans, the illegals immigrants will require BIGGER boats? Here we are…/. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c8e1xkwd74wo

Raalsalghul:It’s easier than paying your landlord’s mortgage with your rent. I know. |
AKALAMAGBO:Do you recall 2-tier Kier’s ‘Youth Mobility’ visa scheme? Where youngsters from EUROPE will come to the UK? I think those will fill the healthcare vacancies. |
Zahra29:I’m keeping well. Many thanks. LOL @ defected from Labour to LibDems. I will not be surprised. Going through the threads here, I wonder. Some people (who were only able to ‘finally’ japa from nigeria because of ‘BorisWave’) became hugely critical of the Tories. Calling the Tories anti-immigration and racist etc… I wonder if they still feel the same with 2-tier Kier at the wheels. |
Raalsalghul:My opinion is: Get the mortgage, if you can. When shite finally hits the ceiling and you need to return to Naij, you sell the house (hopefully you’ve built equity). You get something back. But if you are perpetual rent, then when you have to return, your landlord gets to keep ALl you have paid on rents. |
I am looking for my long lost sister. Anyone seen her? Her name is @ MissJekyll Anyone seen/heard from her at all? I want to check something. |
missjekyll:If madam president had won, I would have celebrated her too. That would’ve been 1 more story for me to tell my daughter. Unfortunately, it appears the Trump guy only beats women, but not men (Hilary in 2016 & Kamala in 2024). The conspiracy theorist in me thinks even the (probably senile) ‘sleepy joe’ at the head of the ticket would’ve beaten the Donald. Any way, we Move. |
