My people, please I need counsel on how to go about retrieving my deposit from my Landlord. Have moved out from his property and it's been 3 months and counting, yet he is yet to pay. Just even realized that the money was not deposited in any Government deposit protection scheme, as we were not even aware of that, being that, it was the first house we rented when we moved to the UK.

Please where can I officially report this matter and have our money returned back to us.
Did you sign a rent contract (agreement)?

Hello my very good friend, MissJekyll (&Hyde).
1. I’m happy for you that you got your money back. Biko, do giveaway for boys, mbok.

2. Do you still think Keir Starmer’s Labour Party is more Pro-immigration than the Tories? Imagine the ‘Shege’ migrants and immigrants are allegedly seeing in the Tory regime. Oga Starmer is suggesting that the Tories are not even tightening the immigration bolts & nuts enough. Oga Starmer is promising that he will tighten the immigration even more.

For now, it’s only the SNP that is promising to further open the immigration doors and throw the keys to the gate away, or even, demolish the gate completely.

A number of issues with your post:
1. IMHO, You’re wrong! Even if it’s one person impacted by the fx crisis, it’s worth noting and being empathetic because no one can plan for that. Also for those who’s plan it was to pay fees with odd jobs in the UK, you’ll have little or no help if you decide to fall back on plan b of crowdfunding from friends and family back home because their Naira/assets lost tremendous value in a short space of time. So fx rate is still relevant.

2. You’re clueless saying fx rates applying to BSC alone because a good number of MSC students didn’t pay 100% at the start. Lots of people did deposit and then 30/30/40. Or whatever payment plan their university allowed them. For example, if I joined a programme Jan 2023, I’d pay my final instalment by Dec 2023, by then the new fx rates kicked in. I know someone who had a payment plan of £500/monthly running almost 12 months post graduation.

3. Based on the above, if that was my plan as it was obtainable for other students in the past and the university drastically changes their policy, why should I go back to Nigeria “quietly” so I don’t offend kwakudtraveller‘a sensibilities?
What do I have to lose? You can bet your bottom dollar I would make all the noise possible in the hope escalation leads to positive intervention and a solution. (Plus the empathy and understanding from compassionate people)
There is something you forgot to consider.
Unlike for undergrad studies, the 28- day PoF rule applies for masters studies differently.

Even if the university agrees on a £20 per month instalments, the UKVI requires an applicant to show evidence that they have 100% of the complete fees. For good measure, the UKVI insists that any PoF an applicant shows MUST be money that is available to the applicant for use whilst in the UK.
The problem is, an applicant shows this evidence. The money is there. In the bank. Visa is granted (based on the trust as per the PoF evidence). Then suddenly, the same student who showed ‘korokoro’ evidence now complains that forex fluctuations made them unable to pay fees? E get K-leg.

By the way, if the UK is serious about this, they can very easily implement the Belgium, Germany etc model of ‘Blocked accounts’

I haven't doorknocked at all this year till I find out which way the wind is blowing for black women in the Labour Party.
My time is very expensive, won't be wasting it.
I just heard Dianne Abbott on BBC Radio 4.
Keir Starner’s Labour Party has no place for the first black woman MP.
Hmmmm this Labour Party Change is no different from Buhari/APC’s Change in 2014.

To reply to Tech Nation, Graduate visa and the engineers you talk about.

I know a few rising tech stars from Naija wey don japa come dey live slightly quieter here.

Many graduates MSc. and PhD that won't be employed in professional roles because of the graduate visa.

Engineers, even person wey been dey work with shell for Naija dey manage warehouse work for here now. Omo, from my small experience here so far, so much more can be gotten from talented immigrants if anyone is willing to take a chance on them.
Good points you made.
Even ‘gooder’ is the fact that the UK actually already actively have visa regimes to cater for these very vital sectors. So you see, the routes are already there. Just waiting to be explored and filled by immigrants.

thanks for the reply. Is @ the bolded not what the shortage occupations list, global talent visa and related visas are there for? I havent seen or heard anyone who met the criteria denied visas.

Has the present government blocked immigration of any sorts?
Exactly!
The country needs scientists and engineers: the govt introduced HSMP visa which metamorphosed into Global Talent Visa.

The country need(ed) Care Workers: A care worker visa was introduced (with care worker CoS subsequently sold on eBay & Temu @ Harrods prices.

The country needed Tech talent: Global talent (Technation) Visa was introduced.

The country needed Nurses: The NHS agents & recruiters set up tents in Abuja & Manilla & imported hundreds, nay, tens of thousands of Nurses from Phils & Naija …

The country needed masons & bricklayers: These were added to the shortage occupation list.

The country needed fresh graduates, they reintroduced 2 year post study visa.

The country needed Teachers in STEM subjects: They opened up a route.

The country needed medical doctors: We now all hear & know about PLAB 1, PLAB 2. An NHS trust/GP practice is never complete if there is no Dr Patel or Dr Singh or Dr Oluwole or Dr Ademola or Dr Gurung or Dr Thapa or Dr Rajakpase or Dr Ganeshwaran.

I think the country has tried, and is trying.

I tried to apply now and it is just as you have described. This seems to be a dire situation now.

I need serious advice on this matter.

Any advice is welcome from everyone
I personally know a few people (about 3) who applied for visas ( not PSW) with expired passports. They got the visas.
On one occasion, the system refused to accept Dec 2023 as date of expiration . She entered Dec 2024 just to pass that stage on the application. Then, she wrote an explainer, detailing how she has booked for passport renewal and how the nigeria passport biometric queue is long.
She received her visa.

Is there a reason why full Nigerian one is preferred over the international one?
Seem a bit of an anomaly that you do not have the ‘local ‘ one, yet you are processing the ‘international’ one.

Do you not need to proof that you can drive in Nigeria before you can be given a proof that you can drive internationally?

I beg to differ. Top issues are the cost of living crisis and the NHS. Fewer people care what's happening at Dover . Which poll are you referring to?
You beg to differ?
Yes, you may choose to differ. But you are 1 individual in the Labour Party.
I previous heard Sir Kier Starmer saying that he admits that immigration numbers are too high, and should be cut.

I think the issue is that you are (either deliberately or maybe unknowingly) conflating dingy arrivals in Dover with Airplane arrivals at Heathrow.

The issue of net immigration goes beyond small boat arrivals.

Nigerian students reported to home office, for failure to pay fees.......
Some of them are not helping matters.

Saying he travels to work for 18 hours to pay up his remaining school is a No-No!

Reason: The home office granted him a visa when he showed evidence of PoF, kept for 28 days.

What happened with the funds meant for school fees?

I wish the guy had based his argument on the sorry state of Tinululation of the Naira, instead of this his ‘I’m working 18 hours to pay my fees’ argument.

If the UK was serious about these kind of things, they could use the Belgium or German models of ‘blocked funds’. But we all know they will not.

Instead of quoting one by one, let me just answer here.

She's a student.
Actually shifts have not been forth coming so it looks like she's trying to save for the next fees for fear of the unknown.

I'm willing to pay the 6 months contract I will sign. I was hoping there'll be another approach beside this alternative rent and dialogue (which I have exhausted).
So. If you kick her out now (a student with no shifts for the 20 hours per week). What do you reckon would become of her?
She has no recourse to public funds. She normally would only rely on family for help. You are family.

If you kick her out now, what becomes of her studies?
I know this may be a very unpopular opinion (given what suggestions you have received here), but I am of the opinion that you bear with her. Please. Don’t throw her out to the hyenas. Please.
If she is a masters student, the most she can be in studies is 12 calendar months. Once she migrates to PSW, then you may do as you please. For now, please bear with her.
Or do you want to kick her out of your house, straight back to Naija?

God has been good to you. Yo have achieved (in less time than 3 years) what some of us have not achieved in more than plenty years. You now own your home. Some of us cannot even afford a mortgage even if it is 99.8% LTV.
Please bro, be the earthly Messiah in this sister’s life.

PS: my only exception would be if she is ungrateful and disrespectful to your wife, in that case, a round table nuanced conversation is required.

So we do not have freedom of speech ?
The Hamas terrorists ( mind you, I didn’t say the Palestinians) viciously attacked innocent Israeli civilians, including hundreds of youngsters at a music festival on October 7.

This girl made those statements, glorying the Hamas acts on October 8.

As at the time she was rejoicing at the Hamas actions, Israel had not even decided on next steps yet.

If Your interpretation of ‘freedom of speech’ is to say you are ‘full of joy’ that terrorists attacked, killed, raped and abducted innocent concert goers and killed innocent people in their Kibbutz then something is not right somewhere.

In case you do not know it, glorifying acts of terrorism is a crime, in the UK. This has nothing to do with Freedom of speech. Freedom of speech is not freedom of terrorism.

What is far left ideology? Labour used to be democratic socialism till it moved to the centre where it now sits. It's never been far left.

DEI is creating a society where every single person can fully be themselves within the bounds of the law because it takes all sorts to make a society. Surely there is nothing wrong with that?
A Labour Party that kicked out the first Black MP in the UK history (Dianne Abbott) for what (in my opinion) was a perfectly genuine statement.

A Labour Party that not only opened wide its arms, but has been flaunting & brandishing Natalie Elphicke.

I have said it before, I will say it again. This UK Labour Party is EXACTLY what the APC was in Nigeria’s 2014 election. So much noise. No substance. They are willing to bring in every sort of strange bedfellows, for the sake of winning elections.

Who remembers Adams Oshiomhole saying… ‘no matter how grievous your sins are, once you come to the APC, your sins are forgiven..’

It’s 2024 now. Nigerians are seeing in 4D what the APC is. When (if) Labour takes power in the UK, it will take less than 2 years for folks to realise that indeed, they have/had no solid plans.

Guy the PSW cannot exist without the Tier-4. It’s as an effect of the Tier 4 so it’s pretty much attached to it. It’s more or less a temporary incentive hence the need to speak on not scrapping it because the Tier 4 visa adds financial value to UK universities. If it is scrapped, it reduces the influx of international students, simple.

There’s no mix up, the article is as clear as night and day and a really positive one at that.
Guy, PSW was NEVER massively abused.
What was massively abused WAS the Tier-4 Student Visa. Where folks pay £2,000 deposit. Use fictitious PoF, get into the UK, then abandon their studies. Use the ‘balance’ of the school fees to BUY Health & Care (Carer route) visas.

And the Government plugged that hole.
There was never ever a time that the PSW was massively abused. NEVER.

Whereas your argument holds true that the PSW comes after the Tier-4, they are NOT the same.
The Tier-4, not the PSW visas is the one that funds and subsidises the University fees for UK students.

The two visa are totally different. That letter by the MAC mixed them up… I’m sure on purpose.

I cannot speak for Zahrah29 because I’m sure they have more than enough response for his your very sour bunkum.

In my opinion, the only exposition the letter made was the admission (in public) that the UK depends on ££ from foreign students to subsidise British students.
As to the bitca out ‘no evidence of widespread abuse of the graduate visa by the students themselves’, I honestly don’t think it is new information.

What was being abused (and the Govt rightly addressed that) was the Tier-4 visa itself, NOT the PSW (aka graduate visa). There was a huge widespread abuse of the Tier-4 and the government already addressed that.

Again, in my opinion, the authors of the letter (MAC) somehow decided to mix up PSW & Tier-4 visas, as though they were the same thing.

PS: What I have written here will not make sense to someone who doesn’t understand the clear difference between Tier-4 visa vs Graduate (aka PSW) visa.

That's not necessarily the only circumstance in which a review would not be viable.

Even if you didn't know the COS was fake, but you got it by paying someone or similar means, there won't be a case.

The burden the OP will have is to show that they legitimately applied for an advertised job, sent in their credentials, did an interview, got an offer, did pre-employment checks etc. before being issued the COS. It would be very easy for OP to prove if they did apply legitimately because there'd be an email trail.
This, right here is the Giant Elephant in the room.

I thought I was the only one wondering why the OP was not raining brimstone and sulfur on the issuer of the fake CoS.
Probably because the process of acquiring the (fake) CoS get kurukere movement?
