there is freedom of association.it was mimiko yesterday,it can be imoke or anybody today, even Jonathan tomorrow. |
The governor of Cross River, Senator Liyel Imoke, who moved the seat of government to the national secretariat of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in protest against the November 1 ward congress elections held in the state, is expected back in Calabar yesterday, 14th Nov. Barring any last minute change of plan, Imoke is expected to make a state-wide broadcast announcing his decampment along with his “PDP Family” members to the All Progressives Congress(APC) as well as comment on allegations leveled against him by his predecessor, Mr. Donald Duke, at a recent public forum. However, impeccable sources within the Imoke confidants, say he may “only carry a handful of his remaining supporters as many have become wise to the fact that his ship is fast sinking and have therefore jettisoned him.” The governor and the chairman of the party in the state, Ntufam John Achort Okon had, shortly after the ward congresses, announced their satisfaction with the outcome of the exercise, describing it as free and fair. However, when it became obvious that the result was actually not in their favour, Imoke moved the entire machinery of government to Abuja, lobbying to get the national secretariat to upturn the result of the exercise. Sources disclosed that Imoke lost the battle of getting the national secretariat to cancel the results of the ward congresses, even after he had attempted to lobby them with the sum of N500 million, which was outrightly rejected as the officials who conducted the exercise in the state insisted that the results turned in were authentic. Not even the intervention of a high ranking chieftain of the party from the South-South zone could turn things in his favour against the will of the electorates. The bribe attempt has been denounced by civil servants in the state as a misplaced priority, especially as they are yet to be paid their October salaries, midway into another month. Sources at the treasury disclosed that N100 million cash was withdrawn from the state’s salary account during the Abuja trip. The irony of the situation is that even when the governor was in Abuja trying to get his way, major stakeholders of the party, made up of the 18 local government council chairmen, House of Assembly members, some governorship aspirants and chapter chairmen of the PDP had, in a communiqué at the end of a meeting they held, applauded the governor for superintending over a free and fair ward congress across the state, frowning at any attempt to effect an alteration. The governor, we learnt, was irked at the action of the stakeholders and has called them to order. Unfortunately, the state-owned media outfits and some national dailies had reported the story conspicuously. As usual, the state chairman of the party is at the receiving end of the governor’s wrath for not perfecting the art of putting the party’s and governor’s interests in order, “by hook or by crook.” It was gathered that the chairman was threatened with a sack from his juicy position should the national secretariat of the party fail to reverse the result in their favour. Some loyalists of the governor have been making derogatory statements about the leadership of the party at the national level on account of their refusal to do Imoke’s bidding. They accused the national secretariat of taking side with some aspirants. Provoked by this ugly accusation, the national secretariat of the party directed the closure of the party’s secretariat in the state. As at the time of filing this report, the Murtala Mohammed Road secretariat is still under lock and key, with security men keeping watch. On interrogation, one of them revealed that they were under strict instructions not to allow anyone, not even the chairman, enter into the building.http://www.newspunch.org/breaking-gov-liyel-imoke-of-cross-river-sets-to-join-apc/ |
mcquin:I am not interested in any political party bt the personality of my next president irrespective of his/her political, ethnic and religious affliations. The present one is clueless with paucity of ideas. |
decode55:It was a northerner that reduced fuel pump price from 70naira to 65naira bt a southener increased it astronomically to 97naira. It was a northerner(cbn gov) who removed the 100naira atm charges bt a southerner re-introduced it. I am a southerner and i want to witness a change for once irrespective of where my president comes from. Anyway being a beneficiary of this present insensitve and clueless govt,u can say whatever u like to promote ur benefactor. |

Anything goes under Jonathan Government.I am nt surprised. In the history of health sector in Nigeria, none of the previous governments has acceded to this bt wen the leader has paucity of ideas(cluelessnes),wht do u expect? Health sector wil surely be in disarray. Seriously,it is only in Nigeria, the medical Consultants see themselves as small gods in the hospital. As such every dick and harry wants to become a consultant.Govt spends so much money on training Doctors.Other health professionals too feel cheated with this, they are jst like 'spectators' in the health sector. The doctors are being paid while under training and they stil want to collect specialist allowance after becoming consultants. The residency training shd be restricted to only teaching hosp and the arrogance being displayed by the consultants as being the alpha and omega of health sector shd be checked forthwith. |

Buhari seems to ve the support of the masses especially from the north, the impediments are his age and the erronous belief the he is a religion bigot. Tambuwal is youthful,he has the suppot of the elites(including obj i think),he may be acceptable to the christians. |
As the APC presidential primary appproaches, which of these two candidates(Tambuwal/Buhari)can give Jonathan a run for his money.APC has to field a candidate that wil be acceptable to Nigerians irrespective of their ethnic and religion affliations.Who between the two candidate shd APC present? |
kudos |
Government shd be proactive this time around 1.Get auto analysers for lab investigations, also the doctors in lab wil be helpful 2.Recruit some CHEWs to replace nurses and with house officers on ground. 3.Recruit plumbers, drivers and electricians on contract basis 4.patients purchase drugs outside the hosp. With these on ground and the committment of the Doctors, our hospitals wil run normally with little or no hitch. |
Ileya!

US wants her prediction that Nigeria may go their separate ways by 2015 to come to pass. Seriously,we need an ex-military person at the helm of affairs to nip this insurgence in the bud. |

Police dare not do such in Nigeria. |
South African police have launched an investigation into corruption allegations linked to President Jacob Zuma’s $24m state-funded upgrade of his house, according to parliamentary papers. In a written police response to lawmakers published on Monday, police confirmed that a probe into accusations that the leader misused public funds to refurbish his house in the rural village of Nkandla “has been initiated”. Zuma, who was re-elected in May, has insisted that he had no knowledge of the work on his home, including the construction of a swimming pool, private clinic and amphitheatre. His government has insisted all the refurbishments were security related. The issue has become a lightning rod for criticism of Zuma’s administration, which is seen by many South Africans as tolerant of corruption and incompetence. South Africa’s national assembly erupted in August with lawmakers chanting “pay back the money”, demanding Zuma return the millions of dollars spent on his home. Opposition leader, Mmusi Maimane, of the Democratic Alliance said “now the police must do their jobs”. Maimane and other opposition politicians had called for Zuma to be the subject of a criminal investigation over the issue, and have demanded he resign. The public ombudsman Thuli Madonsela in March ruled that Zuma had “benefited unduly” from the construction, ordering him to pay part of the cost. Zuma has faced both political and public wrath of the excessive spending, in a country battling rampant unemployment and inequality.http://www.punchng.com/news/south-africa-police-probe-zuma-for-corruption-2/ |
