The Ogbomosho community and the country at large have lost an illustrious son.
RIP!
PoliticsGeneral Benjamin Adekunle Is Dead. by retepmurt(op):
Retired General Benjamin Adekunle, popularly
known as ‘Black Scorpion’ is dead. He died Saturday morning in Lagos according to his
wife, Folake. Born in June 1936 in Kaduna, Adekunle served in
the the Nigerian Army from 1958-1974. According to Wikipedia, Adekunle who served in
the Congo crisis and the Nigeria civil war assumed
command of the Lagos Garrison as a substantive Lt.
Col. “When the Nigerian Civil War erupted in July 1967,
Adekunle was tasked to lead elements which
included two new battalions (7th and 8th) – to
conduct the historic sea borne assault on Bonny in
the Bight of Benin on 26 July 1968 (carried out by
Major Isaac Adaka Boro’s unit). “This happened after the federal government
gained confidence of most south western ethnic
groups as a direct result of Biafran push to mid-
west state and probe into Western region.
Adekunle was promoted to Colonel after the Bonny
landing. “ The 6th (under Major Jalo) and 8th (under Major
Ochefu) battalions of the Lagos Garrison
subsequently took part in operations to liberate the
Midwest following the Biafran invasion of August
1967. The 7th (under Major Abubakar) stayed
behind to hold Bonny. Because Major Jalo’s Unit was seconded to Lt. Col. Murtala Mohammed’s 2nd
Division, Adekunle was left with only the 8th
Battalion at Escravos. “ He was therefore, protested to Army HQ and got
the Lagos garrison upgraded to Brigade status
through the creation of the 31 and 32 Battalions
(under Majors Aliyu and Hamman, respectively).
This formation, combined with elements of the
Lagos garrison along the eastern seaboard, was officially designated the 3 Infantry Division. However, Colonel Adekunle did not think the name
“3 Infantry Division” was sensational enough nor
did it project the nature of the unique terrain in
which his men had to fight. Therefore, without
formal approval from Army HQ, he renamed it the ”
3 Marine Commando (3MCDO).” The “Black Scorpion” as he came to be known, was
easily the most controversial, celebrated and
mythologized figure in the war of attrition that laid
the foundations for Nigeria’s contemporary crisis;
and threw a wedge into the national fabric.http://thenationonlineng.net/new/general-benjamin-adekunle-is-dead/

NYSCNYSC Speaks On #4000 Fee For Printing Call-up Letters. by retepmurt(op): 6:38am On Sep 11, 2014
NATIONAL Youth Service Corps, NYSC, yesterday, explained that the N4,000 fee imposed on prospective corps members for printing of call-up letters on-line was for services and infrastructure to be deployed by the collaborating firm.

Director General of NYSC, Brig-General Jonhson Olawumi, said the money was neither for the scheme nor the corps producing institutions as it was being alleged by some quarters.

NYSC, in a bid to improve its operations in line with global cutting-edge technology, went into partnership with a private company, Messrs. SIDMACH Technologies Nigeria Limited, for the full computerisation of the mobilisation process.

EducationRe: Best Nigerian Universities For Studying Medicine by retepmurt(m): 6:33pm On Sep 04, 2014
Afghanistan: Forget that Unilorin o. I was a medical student there and I must say its really overrated. Insufficient classroom, poor conditions, poor structures and also, the lecturers. Majority of the lecturers no sabi anything as most of them are doctors who were just hired to take up lecturing to fill the gap. Imagine the HOD of a department who cannot speak good english and he calls himself a graduate of MB;BS and has a PHD in anatomy only to miseducate students in anatomy. That's why its very difficult to find professors there. Only a few professors. Another problem is the issue with departments. The college of medicine in unilorin don't have enough departments. They don't even have dentistry, physiotherapy, radiography and so on. Even nursing was just recently established. Despite all these, they keep on withdrawing students anyhow, destroying their careers all in the name of medicine. You just have to make the best of everything in this life and try to be successful in all endeavours. Just believe that you'll make it and with hardwork, you will.
Best Regards.
See lamentation(Ekun Jeremiah). You mst be one of the students withdrawn from unilorin medical school as a result of poor academic performance. One does nt need to possess the wisdom of a Solomon or the sagacity of a Daniel to conclude that u ve been 'injured' by this Medical school.

SportsCartoon Of The Day:Samir Nasri Eats The Sour Grape by retepmurt(op): 3:10pm On Aug 11, 2014
Samir Nasri further endeared himself to Arsenal
fans prior to Manchester City's Community Shield
clash with the Gunners on Sunday. "I just think the abuse I get is stupid," he said. "I'm
not an Arsenal fan, I am not from London. To be
honest we are players and we are just looking at
what are the best interests for us and our careers. "When Manchester City came for me it was the best
choice to come here. Since coming to City I have
won trophies and I have a better life so I am really
happy about everything. "If the fans can't move on it's too bad. I am not
trying to have a problem with that. They do what
they have to do and they love their club. "They see that as a treason or that I betrayed them
but it's not that." Nasri was met with boos from the Arsenal faithful at
Wembley and it was the Gunners who had the last
laugh, coming out on top with a comfortable 3-0
win.www.goal.com/en-ng/slideshow/8597/1/title/cartoon-of-the-day-august
