Biafra may not have been planned well, but it was a response to people being killed in large numbers by another group. When a nation cannot protects its citizens, then those citizens have a right to opt out of that union.
It was a response not a well planned military and political struggle.

Typical of Africans we want the results of other people but we dont want to work like other people.

If you wanted to break up from Nigeria without firing a shot there is a way to go about it. I am sorry to say that as it is now the people that should lead have their hands in the sweet banga soup.

Majority of the "Igbo" states are not ruled by cow chasing hausa men
nor are they governed by Yoruba Yoruba oyen efemanu tribal marked yoruba man like me.

I hear people shouting we want state police they can always form a voluntary police service that may not need to carry weapons. since we have states it is easier to divide but go and ask your Rulers they want more state  why?

you think the Ijaw will join you and become a second class citizen?

Amongst pure Igbos there is division well I hope your wish come to pass.

I know that language is a temporary arrangement of syllables it changes or dies.

I am not surprised. Kosovo is very different to Serbia.

1) Kosovo is made up ethnic Albanians and Albania supported their armed struggle
2) America wanted to cut the power of serbia because serbia was seen as anti west.
3) Kosova does not have oil like some parts of Nigeria( I know you will jump up and say ehen)
4) Kosovo plained their armed struggle very well unlike some parts of Nigeria where some ambitious soldier just shouted biafra.

Another empty promises. If OBJ could send soldier to Odi to deal with villagers and send high powered soldiers to deal MEND and later resolved to make peace with MEND and CO, why is it hard for Jonathan to make nice with power workers or disband.
? If NEPA would be fixed, there would be no other avenue to steal billions of $$ every year. Chop make I chop = NEPA/PHCN
You are funny, who gave you the concoct of lies. He never sent soldier to ODI. Dont malign the army with your rubish here. If he gave the order who what and where?

Nepa is more organised to rob Nigeria. OBJ found out this bitter truth. I never knew it myself. OBJ MADE IT POSSIBLE FOR US TO SEE WHO THE THEIVES ARE. Why is everybody afraid to spend money on power?
If i gave you $5 billion to do any business in Nigeria you would never put the money into power why? You know the answer. You will buy transformer that wil dissappear? cables that will evaporate? light bills that you will need guns and cutlass to collect your money?
We are a diseased corrupt people but we can change when we say enough is enough.

Even the citizens are not ready to pay light bill.

This is very funny I am laughing in India(thousands of apologies)

The civil service are the CROOKS they kill and make you look like a thief and they get away.

One man cant know everything about the Army, elections, Economy, sports etc, Hence a government works for the interest for the people by working with the quality of citizen it finds close to it in the area it needs advice. If you are interested in saving Nigeria you must move close to government. If not shut up and just die as a coward.

THE CIVIL SERVICE IS VERY AMORPHOUS YOU CANT HOLD THEM UNLESS YOU ARE READY TO BREAK THE LAW IF THERE IS EVEN ANY LAW TO BE BROKEN. WHAT OUR SO CALLED LEADERS HAVE STOLEN IS CHEWING GUM MONEY TO WHAT THE ARMY OF ROBBING CIVIL SERVICE HAVE AND WILL CONTINUE TO STEAL.

THERE IS A COMPETITION TO STEAL MORE MONEY SO THEY ASPIRE TO BECOME POLITICAL POWER BROKERS AND WHEN THEY ARE CAUGHT THEY HIRE THE BEST LAWYER AND PAY JOURNALIST TO SHOUT RULE OF LAW AND POLITICAL VICTIMISATION.

This is not an academic work. Peoples lives are affected by very criminal decision the managers make. Should because we want FDI tell the whole world lies? Yes we lied a lot to ourselves and we failed in the areas we did.

I know we can lie about everything under the earth to seem it good but We have conscience and our children to pass on this lie to. The "rich" of Nigeria want to seem untouchable.

Touch a senior Soldier selling arms to the enemies of Nigeria , he is off the hook
Touch a governor that stole money, goes to Court and seeks a Perpetual injuction
Touch the Children of wealthy , They will reward their kids by Foolishly sending them abroad to study "Nothinglogy"
Touch the Bank Manager , They will go on medical treatment in Dubai or be chilling with girls with private peoples money
Touch the Bank officials, They bring news on the newspaper about the Authority that is trying to correct the wrong.
Touch the Ex Army Generals, They will begin to recruit civlians into small groups(militants) that they use for bunkering and later oil well aquisition.

The children of the poor live in a place called the truth. Their imagination is limited because those that God appointed to give them hope are squandering the monies and opportunities.

You know it is very funny when we see people jump on the throats of our leaders, when our leader make statements that are factual. In our civil psychology we are made to believe that some people are born to squander our monies and given awards for doing so.

Bank managers have so much power and blatantly misuse the trust of the populace when discovered it should be covered because of investors confidence? It is like your son fails an exam and you pay money for him to be moved to the next class because you dont want him to feel shamed.

You know we can all lie about the banking industry in Nigeria and deceive the world to invest in Nigeria but when the investors come back for their money the truth will come, then the hard line Mr Sanusi is taken would be a small fry compared to what would happen.

I will give you a little history, back in the 80s when we were supposed to invest massively power sector we failed to do so. People did not pay light bills, we were eating the power cake then about 20 years later we are reaping the benefits of our sins. What we would have used 10 billion dollars to do we now have to spend 30 billion dollars. If Ghana or S.Africa was in Darkness you think SOME Nigerians would care?

To build trust and repentance the truth must be told publicly.

The government hand is tied because it will cost money to get on the road map. How much shall you and I pay for the power. Ok if the FG say each State take care of it self how much will the average Nigerian pay that the NIGERIAN LABOUR CONGRESS not say the government is corrupt and that the cost per unit cannot be borne by the average Nigerian. The NLC will hit the street backed by an army of GENERATOR MILLIONAIRE in nigeria.

Not forgetting that the same NLC are the ones that RUN Nigeria in REAL TIME.

IF YOU ARE JESUS CHRIST AND YOU TOUCH NNPC YOU WILL ETERNALLY MEET WITH THE POWER OF THE NLC.

Not until we form a counter group that has no link with government that would say this is how much we are ready to pay and this is how we want to pay THAT WILL ATTRACT THE REAL OPERATORS OF POWER. The government can give one million road map even better than the one on google.

We have gates High up like prison walls yet the churches emulates the people it supposed to lead. Nonsense How many correctional homes or free lunch homes does any of the church give. Some churches rob the people and give SOMETIMES false hope. The wesleys and other missionary schools were sponsored by people who loved God and people.

I am waiting for any religious mission that would set up free home and feeding for the not yet converted criminals in Lagos. There are young people in Lagos that have no help the criminals provide what the church cant and wont provide to them and their loyalty shifts to their Lords.

It looks like you dont anything about the Military so please dont go there.

In the military there is what is Chain of command. Let me Explain.

supposing battalion 555 is attacked troups are to retaliate immediately when command or no command.

If i sent any of you to war and some guy was shooting at you the normal thing for you is to shoot back no question asked that is why you and I pay tax.

Now there are instances where soldiers could be told to hold fire for reasons of Intel so that you dont give your position out.

If you kill a soldier you have attacked the soverignty of Nigeria. You should never attack any soldier.

There was a day I was walking at Night some years back. I saw a soldier jump out and held his rifle, he was 1000% drunk and his hand was on the triger I knew that I hard to raise my hand. He questioned and let me go.

The nigerian Army became more Proffesional not because of peace keeping But because the commander in Chief did a lot of work, some I don’t need to give out here. There was peace keeping in Babangida and Abacha time did that mean coup plotters could not do their thing?

Even if you give this as an excuse why havent there been any coup since he left?

4) Banking sector
5) Army more proffessional
6) Tax collection very effective.
7) Simultaneously spending money on GENERATION, TRANSMISSION AND DISTRIBUTION. Now that is massive and risky but he did it.

The Nigerian people are just funny sometimes I just think we are brain dead. Why do WE think in our widest dream that if we localise a problem we solve the problem? You know I really want this whole Idea of the state going their own ways on power to be materialized then we shall go back. We will see the Astronomical prices on power.

THE ISSUE OF THE NIGERIAN POWER CRISIS IS PRICING. YOU CAN GENERATE ONE BILLION KWH AND STILL YOU WILL NOT HAVE CONSUMERS PAY. JUST SHOW ME ONE PERSON THAT WOULD PUT HALF A DOLLAR INTO POWER WHEN HE KNOWS THAT HE WILL NOT GET HIS MONEY BACK.

Nigerians think that any investor would wait and hope for you to pay light bill when The distribution Companies comes back to the generating company and say the consumer did not pay?

I challenge any one on Nairaland to tell us how he would provide power to all homes if even them dash am Nepa.

ndu_chucks
This is a very bad idea. Governments are not known to run businesses efficiently. Power distribution should be handled by profit motivated corporations who will safeguard the assets and run the system efficiently.

What GJ needs to do is to sell the distribution assets to corporations (preferably joint ventures - proven US/UK/China distribution companies with Nigerian partners) and let them run the distribution system.

Governments, whether state of federal are incapable of running the distribution system efficiently.
@Ndu chucks

Very funny. I will ask you one question if I give you 1 billion dollars to invest in any nigerian sector would you pick power. Nigerians keep deceiving themselves believing we can eat our cake and have it. If you look at power sector there is no single Nigerian millionaire. When Ghanaians were paying light bills and spending money on their developments Nigerians were busy buying Generators.

@gbawe

Obasanjo is the only Nigerian president that was ready to battle the power problem I owe my understanding of the power problem to his attempt to solve the problem. He spent massive monies on power. I know because of obasanjo that if I generate I trillion kw/h and I don’t have transmission and distribution I am the biggest joke of the millennium. If I gave you 1 billion dollars you will NEVER invest in power sector he spent so much because he wnt an instant solution OBJ was ambitious the Nigerian power industry was 200 years backward.

If you increase or liberalize the price of power kw/h you will not need all this noise making.

THE ISSUE IS THE PRICE. netotse HAS ALREADY MADE THIS CLEAR.

Notice
That we have not moved into tribal politicking on this thread. I believe Nigerians dont like Corruption even though it their father doing it.

Now see again the use of the word SELECTIVE

The EFCC conveniently chose to 'overlook' this order even though it upholds that of Odili. Big question is WHYhuh Why the selective justice? Why the double standards? In the peculiar case of Ibori, why the haste? Why the desperation? Why the unnecessary use of maximum combined federal forces & international instruments to hound this man? Critical thinkers would easily see that there is more to this bizarre drama than meets the eye. This whole thing is a throw back to the Obasanjo years when the dictator used the EFCC (sometimes in cohort with UK Met police) to hound, intimidate, and selectively persecute political enemies - all in the name of fighting corruption
So it is Obj now controlling GJ to pursue Ibori?

I am here My primary 6 certificate brain tells me that Road built by contractors is over several 100% inflated. What I am saying if you looked at the long term maintenance cost and the over inflated cost on the building of the road in the first place, you will see it is no where near what people will be paying when your road sector is a business.

i will rather go to other roads in lagos so that lcc can drop their rates. Are you kidding me.
Ok I have seen this work in singapore There are 2 things that come to mind for a commuter in singapore it is time and money. They have so developed that bus delay is less than a minute and routing can save or make you loose money. Singaporeans have a saying it goes like "Ah you say you like singapore is a fine country right, yes it is a fine country because we pay plenty FINE"

The same Road companies will pay Taxes and employ people that will also pay tax. Well you can discard my primary 1 advice by bringing in Julius berger and other companies that will be told to inflated the cost of building the road so that they can collect 10% at the side. Our civil is the most corrupt part of the citizenry. Keep believing that Nigerians are not out to make money. There is nothing wrong in making money but let the state government make the rule. I support the Toll fee it is better.

Common sense is very absent in the minds of many.
BusinessRe: What's Happening On The Lekki Axis? by rethink: 3:01pm On May 13, 2010

I am 1million support of the tolls. I will tell you why. Right now you have Lcc/high tech monopoly right? Just what you need to do is give other Road companies the chance operate in Lagos. Dont forget that for any money they make they are suposed to pay tax.

Set up more road companies if  and when there is competition nobody will tell Lcc to reduce their toll fee to 10naira. Road business is now a business it is no more social amenities like that because the business is growing and it need the real OPERATOR to get into it. Let them charge 1 bllion dollars that is their reward for their business Idea. Now what to do is bring in the competition everywhere in lagos.

If you tell the State Government to step it will destroy the future willingness for any body to put one naira in investment.  People and BANKS get into business because there is money to be made.

I will tell you something I personally experience.

In singapore it is a heavily tax country. The road/transport system is very organised. The rich are heavily taxed so they account for every dollar they spend. Now I noticed that in S'pore if a little modicum if what just appears to be a crack on the road, people are there to break that part of the road and rebuild it. I wonder how they do it. I think that have road inspectors .

You will regret it and the same people will call you thief if you dont dance to their ways.

Run away from inflated contracts and Let the people to use this to make money for themselves. Government should just make the rules and atmosphere for a DATABASE REVOLUTION.
