a massive student protest which started a little over 10pm last night in the university of ibadan has continued into the morning. the students are protesting over incessant power outage at a time when when examinations are scheduled to begin. irregular power supply has been the hallmark of the prestigious premier university for sometime now. power supply from phcn (the power regulating body in nigeria) has been erratic over the last couple of months, almost to the point of being non-existent. the school authorities in a bid to augument the power supply it gets from the power regulators, provides generator light for its students for about 4-5 hours in a day. yesterday, the 22nd of april, the power balance was titled when the students decided that they deserved better living conditions and began protesting against the power status quo. the protest which began at about 10pm yesterday has gained momentum as the protest spilled over into the morning. school activities have come to a halt as the protesters ensured that no classes would be held. ironically, the light came up this morning just as the protest picked up pace and has not gone off since. it will be interesting to see how the school authorities react to this present predicament...and we can assure you that we will be paying attention as the events unfold.

Eva Alordiah needs no introduction. Even before her appearance on the BET Cyhper, she was already commanding a follower-ship of over 7000 on twitter-no small feat if you consider the fact that she had only one major single out at the time and a 1 minute appearance in the video to Cartier’s Owo Ati Swagger Remix . At present, Eva is unarguably one of the hottest and most sought after femcees in West Africa- the result of hard work and a die-hard drive to succeed. We got a chance to get the diva-femcee to speak on her rising fame, here is what she had to say: You had what is perhaps the biggest international exposure following your appearance at the BET cypher. How have you been coping with the aftermath? Oh that's been real good to have! BET has had their tabs on me since then and I'm only too grateful to have that. The fans have been supportive as always, every fan-mail, fan tweet, fan comment kinda propels me, y'know? The BET cypher is what the BET Hiphop awards is all about and having to represent Nigeria on a front like that was just a huge blessing. People who know you from your days in Bowen say you never picked up a mic in school and they never knew you could rap. How did it all start for you? Apparently you've been talking to the people 'who think they knew me'. Right from day one in Bowen University, I was on stage. But back then, I was a dancer. Choreography was my thing. Dancing was something I did throughout secondary school so as soon as I entered Bowen it was like the first thing I wanted to showcase. I'm not one to brag or go about flaunting stuff when I'm not sure about my steps. Becoming sure about Rap was after I dropped 'I dey Play' with Tha Suspect. And that was around early 2009 which was pretty much my final year. I did a couple of school shows and that was it. Then I graduated. In retrospect how important do you think it is for someone to pick up early in their passion in life? Very important! Infact, right now from experience, I have a blueprint for my unborn babies, God bless them (laughs). I picked up a lot at a pretty age and that's what I'm banking on now. At about 5years old I was reading books that were bigger than me mentally. I think my folks noticed and encouraged me to read even more! I was such a novel freak at the time. So it was no surprise when at 11 I was writing short stories straight off my head and my Dad was even looking to get me published. At 13 I fell in love with Rap and began to get myself involved in Music and entertainment. I was a photography model from 15 till I was about 18. Right after secondary school at 16, I found a deep love for Makeup and Fashion and I drowned myself in everything I could learn at the time. That was when I began to learn to sew and work with Makeup professionally. At that age I also got involved with Movies cause I really wanted to be an actress. I filmed a couple of episodes for a series and decided I wasn't quite ready. Long story short, fast forward to today and all that has played out really well and found a balance in my life today. I'm a Writer, Fashion designer, Makeup artist, Music artiste and entertainer. People ask me if thats not too much to handle, truth is they all work hand in hand to propel me as a young lady. I do my makeup myself for my photoshoots, video shoots, events and appearances. My knowledge and experience as a model influences my visual works today, I can't possibly do music without a good sense of Fashion and I write music; Me sef! I dey try oh! When you picked up a career in rap, you chose what is perhaps the most treacherous terrain for a career-woman why is that? Well, I think Rap chose me. Even as a choir member as a child, I never had the best voice so I couldn't possibly come out being a Beyonce or Waje. I love Rap. There's just something so soulful about Rap and Hiphop that its difficult to deny the kind of satisfaction I derive from being able to express myself musically through Rap. Plus, I get some pretty good reviews about my shit so I don't think I'm that bad. Women are sometimes limited to the things they can rap about and that in a way limits their audience. What do you like to rap about? There's no limit to what we can say normally so why should there be a limit to what we can rap about? I'm very outspoken. I have always being a 'I have something to say and I'm gonna say it' kinda girl. I remember just when the GIGO EP was released, I got a lot of reviews on the song 'Ehhhh' featuring XVol. I think a lot of people were amazed at how explicit it turned out. I mean come on!! A girl's gotta say what a girl's gotta say right? There aren't any limits, the only limits are those we present ourselves, and me? I ain't given myself no limits so I'm straight. How did you folks react to your decision to rap? My folks have always been one to respect your personally decisions. They don't impose anything. My Dad's only concern was my schooling cause I pretty much started a music career in my final year. I mean, the nigga's paid a load of cash for a Private University education right? So the plan was to finish school and finish well then I could do whatever I wanted. All I had to do was stick to the plan.So we good Do you think femcees are getting the respect they deserve? Well, we are beginning to demand it now. So I guess it would all fall in place soon. .....Continued on http://pressoncampus.com/pages/index/PocNews-17

News reaching us from Covenant University has it that the varsity authorities have barred students from wearing the Shamballa Bracelet. Shamballa bracelets are a symbolic hand ornament with links to Buddhism. The bracelets serve as a reminder to an ancient Buddhist prophecy which foretell a time when the 25th Kalki King will emerge from Shamballa to save the human race from war and the dark forces of the world and usher in a worldwide Golden Age. It is unclear at this point if the reason(s) for banning the wearing of the bracelet has any connection to the Buddhist prophesy or if the school authority is worried about the band's connection to Buddhism as a religion. What is clear though is that there are almost certainly no Buddhist in Covenant University and the reasons why students seem to have a knack for the bracelet is because it has become a fashion trend seen on the likes of American rappers, Rick Ross and Lil Wayne. Other fashion items and accessories banned in Covenant University are Denim Jeans, bogus earrings, leather pants, mobile phones, "worldly" CDs, laser pointers, fashion/hiphop magazines, colored hair, Afro hair, mini skirts and a whole range of myriad outfits Source: http://pressoncampus.com/pages/index/PocNews-9
