Full Story Here: http://www.pressoncampus.com/pages/index/PocNews-31 The fear of Boko Haram, it seems, is the beginning of wisdom. That seems to be the prevailing mentality in Covenant University as it prepares for its forthcoming convocation ceremony. On Friday the 29th of June, the Christian mission varsity will, for the 7th time in its history, release its 400 level students {Eagles as they are popularly called} to the world in a grand ceremony. Our sources inform us that in order to avert an attack from the militant sect, the university plans to restrict the population of would-be attendees by allowing granting to the ceremony through special invitation cards. Going by this measure, each graduation student will be given an invitation card which will allow access for only two (2) people. The students will also be given one (1) car permit each for their visitors. It is also being speculated that the closing time for the ceremony will be fixed at 5pm at which time, all attendees will be expected to vacate the compound. The Living Faith Ministry, the Christian mission behind Covenant University, is no stranger to attacks by Boko Haram. Its members have been targets of suicide attacks that have taken place in the Northern part of the country. If these reports are valid, it will be interesting to see how these policies will affect attendance on that day. The implications will also be felt on the amount of time one will be able to spend with well wishes and friends. The hardship to be expected by these measures will only be dwarfed if by any stroke of bad luck, an attack does occur. We wish all the graduating “Eagles” the very best and we are hopeful that the convocation ceremony will go on as planned, hitch-free. |
Covenant University Expels Students Over Homosexuality Full Story Here: http://www.pressoncampus.com/pages/index/PocNews-33 Two 400 level graduating student have been expelled from Covenant University following investigations which revealed that the students were engaged in homosexual acts. The girls in question have eloped from the varsity campus following speculations that the school authorities planned to expel them. No one at the moment knows their whereabouts as the girls did not go home to their parent’s houses. Their troubles began when speculations started running rife about their sexual orientation. It is reported that the “couples” were often seen hand in hand and sometimes dressed in similar clothing while in public. They are also said to have been spending their nights together in the same room even though one of the girls is resident in a different hostel. These allegations led the school authorities to search the personal belongings of the girls for incriminating evidence. The search effort produced a mobile phone {Mobile communication devices are banned items in Covenant University} which contained messages incriminating the girls. There is a second aspect to this report which includes a third party. Apparently, one of the girls involved in the scandal was in a relationship with another student. The third party in question had recently being jilted by her lover who had found a new romantic interest. In a bid to expose her ex-lover as a cunning, unrepentant cheater, she hacked into ex-lovers email account and found evidence that the ex-lover in question was involved with yet another fourth party. The jilted lover printed the emails as evidence and sent a copy to unsuspecting “new catch”. The document, by sheer bad luck, found its way to the hands of the authorities whom promptly summoned the girls for questioning. The students were all 400 level undergraduates on the verge of writing their final exams when their troubles started. They would have been part of the graduation ceremony scheduled to take place next Friday [The 29th of June]. |

When the jaw_jawing has run its course, it will be time for war-warring...He forgot to mention that the ibos were neglected and their fate resigned to the market forces at Alaba Market...while our benin daughters are stranded in italy and russia |
From a zero, nameless, unimportant organization to an internationally recognized group...All because the Nigerian police brazenly murdered and executed innocent pple in the name of security. I remember watching the Al-jazerra video and the police was conducting house to house raids..Next thing u know the pple were lined up on the streets and shot! Nigerian police you did this!!!! |
Who knows maybe Jonathan is the worst president we have had. Maybe it doesn't matter too that people have forgotten that Nigeria has held captive by murderous, corrupt military rulers for more than 30 years. Yet, let us not forget one thing: the situation of events that brought Jonathan to power. It was only yesterday that YarAdua died...let's us remember how the North kept the VP in the shadows, how Dora kept fumbling on words because she too was kept in the dark, how some pple kept the president hidden and claimed it was he who signed the bill, how the word cabal became common place in our vocab...I can go on an on...the point I am trying to make is these enemies of Nigeria haven't died yet. If you will give an incumbent president that king of trouble what is to stop these people from trying to destablize the polity or to rubbish the name of the man in question? Who is sponsoring Boko Haram? Boko haram is all around me" what did the president really mean by this statement? People may ask, so why doesn't he rat them out? In my opinion, I think Nigeria is too diverse for that kind of response. How do single out a cabal of offenders from a particular tribe without raising brows or heating up the polity? It takes a man who doesn't give a shilt about consequences. The man isn't perfect and I think he means well...Have we all forgotten so soon? The reason we rallied around him during the election? Pray for your president. Pray for Nigeria |
Industrialization?? So will a serious commitment to fighting corruption, state autonomy, Justice and freedom...etc. And light |
That's Nairaland for you...just type in Igbo and people automatically assume you are referring to the tribe in a derogatory sense...who is therefore the bigot? What is it about the ibos that necessitates this bigotry? |

See full interview @ www.pressoncampus.com "The overly strict rules however, made me withdraw from social gatherings and people, making me practice more and improving my skills, but, it killed all enthusiasm regarding school issues..." Your Alma-mater, Covenant University, placed a high importance on entrepreneurship studies for its students. At the same time, it enforced some of the strictest rules on social behaviour. How did both factors affect you musically while in school? Entrepreneurship to me is the base of existence. What CU taught me was to have a business approach to everything I did and that has really helped me to manage my music career wisely. The business man will ask," How can I reach a lot of people with the minimum cost?" As a musician, I ask a similar question too like, " How can I be successful and reach the world with the least effort?" I think it falls along the same lines. The overly strict rules however, made me withdraw from social gatherings and people, making me practice more and improving my skills, but, it killed all enthusiasm regarding school issues. When did your big break come, musically? It was a gradual process into people's consciousness as opposed to a Big Break. In 2009 I participated in the Hennessy Artistry series. That put me on stage in front of a lot of people and that was an introduction. We followed that with the More You video the next year which increased my fans significantly. We dropped the album in 2011 and dropped That Stupid Song in 2012. After each milestone achieved, the number of Bez Music lovers increase significantly. How important do you think starting early is, for persons hoping to build a career in music? Starting early in a music career is great and quite important. It gives you time to make your mistakes and grow musically, while you're growing physically, mentally and emotionally too. It sets you apart because you would have had more practice time than someone who decides to start up now. You need to realize though, it always starts as a hobby or discovered as a gift. It is nurtured and later evolves into what you and I enjoy. That takes time. Having passed through the school phase, how valid is that argument parents make about not letting our passions distract us in school? Is it better, in your opinion, to face your studies while in school and completely ignore your passion until you are done with school? Don't ignore your passion, don't ignore your studies or academics. When we were in elementary school and high school, we did a lot. We had soccer clubs, basket ball, music, chess, etc. These things build you up into a well rounded individual. It should be the same in University. Participate in your passion and build it, and at the same time give time to your school work. It's all about planning your time wisely. Besides, the brain has an enormous ability to learn a lot of things at the same time, we never just take advantage of it. How big did you really think you'd become when you consider that fact that even the likes of Asa weren't that prominent during your time in school? What were your aspirations considering the fact that Nigerians were not yet used to 'Afro soul'? Well, I actually thought I would be the first of my kind of genre and cash out on the monopoly [lol]. I believe in what I do, and I believe there's a market for everything, when done and packaged properly. I'm not even big yet. With more time, more material, more opportunities, I'll become very huge. Who has had the biggest influence on you musically? My family has had the biggest influence on me musically. My dad introduced me to the guitar and how to play it. My sisters introduced me to singing and performing on stage, and they introduced me to their friends who were musicians who further had an impact on my music. So you see, my family created this chain reaction that has brought me here and still is taking me through this musical journey. What is the most difficult thing you've had to go through musically? The most difficult thing as a musician is wanting a lot like: great shows, great sound, being able to tour, being able to carry your whole band, and a lot of other dreams and not being able to get it at the moment because of lack of finances. But what I did realize is, they all come through eventually, but at moments you can't have them but really want to... It's a difficult thing to go through. What are you working on presently? I'm working on new material now. Something different from the first album, but not entirely different. Also I'm getting ready to leave to New York for a mini tour of key venues in the city. I'm really looking forward to the opportunities the gigs will bring. What would your word of inspiration be to that young person reading this? Discover your purpose in life, stick to that purpose and have God guide you to fulfilling that purpose. Super Sun. |
