as long as you have been able to reboot your device without issues, i believe you are good to go, the deadboot has no connection to updates, it's all about inability to boot up after rebooting.
If you look at the screenshot down there, you will see the updates which i have already updated without isuess.

Note that this is not the first time, I have been updating the phone since i helped her buy it

Honestly I am not trying to sound like a broken record though I'm hurting badly because I don't know how to feel, but this my babe that I've been dating for the past 2 years hardly calls me. Times without number we have talked about it and she promised to improve but that has not been the case.

She has been online on whatsapp, I am sure she calls other people. I have made up my mind not to call or write to her first and if she doesn't reach out to me then I will just bone and move on gently.

same thing happened to me. I was putting all the effort for us to communicate but this babe doesn't care if we don't speak for 5 days. I complained and complained. Nothing changed. I broke it up last 2 weeks. It was so boring

You can download the latest ROMs from here and update by choosing update package from settings.

A good phone won't pack up even if you don't update. A phone (Infinix note 2) I bought since July 2016 is still working perfectly without any software issue despite no update for more than 5 years now.
I switched to Xiaomi because of updates but I chose not to update my 9t because of fear of the dead boot issue.

Then don't update it. I have given you the best advice concerning mine as we use the same phone. Do what's best for you then
