FamilyRe: To Marry Or Not To Marry by Reverend(m): 2:32pm On May 09, 2006
To commit yourself to somebody does not require a piece of paper or a ceremony! Do not be pressurized into marriage because of religious superstitions or that you believe living and sleeping with each other outside of marriage is a sin! It is not!

Respect and love for one another is the key!

I know of many people who have lived together as man and wife for many years who are happy and would not change it for the World. Then again I know many others who are in tragic marriages unable to part ways becuase of the stigma.

Think very carefully, if it is for the dress, the cake and the presents then don't do it! It is cheaper to go out and buy them without the wedding.

If you are being pressurized into it for moral reasons then do not run into it before thinking carefully before making the commitment.

Do not forget, there are allot of things that marriage will not necessary bring you. Happiness is one of them!

Christianity EtcRe: Is Bible The Word of God? by Reverend(m): 11:44am On May 09, 2006
Everyone can benefit from the gospel of love. The first commandment to love God with all one's being is essential. So is the ode to unconditional love by St. Paul in 1 Corinthians 13.

However, following an idealized figure implies more often than not silencing the intellect, making way for a faithful but blind belief.
Even so, faith should be respected, unless it affects the well-being and even lives of other people.

In the case of Christianity the common fallacy that the bible represents the word of God has led to destruction of valuable historical records of early Christianity, persecution of heretics, Jews, homosexuals and witches. It has introduced weird distorted notions, not surprising for peoples of ancient times, but unfitting in our modern age with its unlimited access to knowledge.

The old and new testaments are a product of myths that originated in times that hardly anything about our physical world was known. The fearsome circumstances made people cling to godman-like figures. The Jews projected theirs onto one tribal God: Jahweh. Early Christians created Christ, who undertook to redeem the sins of mankind, or at least of those who placed trust in him.

It is surprising that hundreds of millions of Christians follow blindly outdated biblical commandments. They are prepared to sacrifice everything, even their lives, for their belief. The only sacrifice they are not prepared to make is to use their common sense - their God-given intelligence - to spend a few hours, may be days, to investigate the roots of their faith.

In this respect they are not guided by their churches either. Details of how the bible came to us are hardly given by Church leaders. Amazing discoveries of the Dead Sea Scrolls or the lost gospel of Thomas, which may well be the oldest one we have, and which gives quite a different view of Jesus' sayings, are not being discussed.
Scholarship has already established centuries ago that it is untenable to maintain that the bible is the word of God. But their findings were hushed up by the churches which fear that it might undermine their sway over the minds of believers. A great deal of attention is paid to the translation of what is termed the original text. This has the appearance of a diversionary tactic to draw away attention from the fact that we have no original text but only poor copies of written traditions.

I have three illnesses:-

Normality
Liberalism
Free Thinking

I understand that many people do not suffer from these and I really hope they never find a cure!

Maybe if your soul is expensive I could purchase it on a credit agreement. I will give you my soul (or part of it) as collateral smiley

I didn't become a Christian by force of anyone, and all the armies of the world who have tried have neither been able to put an end to Christianity,
They do not need to put an end to Christianity! There are more people killed in the name of religion than any other reason. Thou shalt not kill seems to be very liberally interpreted.

People seem more shocked by pre-marital sex than the fact that millions of people die each year through religious violence.

Back to the original question 'Price of Your Soul'? Maybe you should advertise it on Ebay and then you will know it's real market value smiley

The oil is not the key to the future, but it would definitely make a difference if the income was spent now building up the infrastructure of Nigeria and creating Jobs. Unfortunately, nobody will give up the rights to the oil, so your idea of splitting the Country up is a bit of a pipe dream I am afraid.

Botswana has maintained one of the world's highest economic growth rates since independence in 1966. Through fiscal discipline and sound management, Botswana has transformed itself from one of the poorest countries in the world to a middle-income country with a per capita GDP of $10,000 in 2005. Two major investment services rank Botswana as the best credit risk in Africa.

Diamond mining has fueled much of the expansion and currently accounts for more than one-third of GDP and for 70-80% of export earnings. Tourism, financial services, subsistence farming, and cattle raising are other key sectors.

On the downside, the government must deal with high rates of unemployment and poverty. Unemployment officially is 23.8%, but unofficial estimates place it closer to 40%. HIV/AIDS infection rates are the second highest in the world and threaten Botswana's impressive economic gains. An expected leveling off in diamond mining production overshadows long-term prospects. Life expectancy at birth: total population: 33.74 years - male: 33.9 years - female: 33.56 years (2006 est.)

Yes actually I do have a problem with it. It is just plain idiotic and I can not see your reason for doing such a thing other than you may not understand English or be able to write in English.

The rules of this forum state:-

PROPER ENGLISH LANGUAGE ONLY
Please use standard, proper, and clear English at all times when publicly discussing topics on the Nairaland Forum. Avoid the use of Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, local 'pidgin', or other languages on the forum. If you find it necessary to express yourself using any of these other languages, then you must provide a translation in clear, proper, standard English so that those that don't understand the language you have used would still be able to enjoy the forum.

AIM FOR MAXIMUM CLARITY
Always aim for maximum clarity when composing content for the Nairaland, and try your best to adhere to all of the widely acknowledged Internet Posting Guidelines: avoid unecessary use of all caps, punctuate properly, break your posts into short paragraphs, use clear English (no slangs), et cetera. High quality writing will be rewarded and low-quality writing will be penalized!

ALWAYS POST ON TOPIC

Off-topic or worthless posts will also be strictly penalized! We want our forum to be well-organized.

Just to post one word in a thread is worthless and pethetic. Try posting less and writing more!

I do not want to be overly critical of you, but why do you troll this forum and find the need to make one word replies?

What is the point in writing 'nice' in this thread. Why don't you try to string a few words together into a sentence for a change and give an opinion on the subject of the thread!

I have noticed your one word posts in most of the threads. What is the point?

Look what happened in ex Yugoslavia. General Tito created Yugoslavia out of Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia and Montenegro which prospered during his rule.

Once he died it all started falling apart. Then the killing started! Seperating people on the basis of their tribal loyalties is very dangerous.

Give people security, a decent place to live, a decent Job, a decent wage with good health care, modern infrastructure and a fair and stable political enviroment without corruption then 99% of them would not care if it was the British or Nigerians running the Country!

What price Independence? Look at the mess that has been created by Nigerian hands!
