Third Mainland Bridge

The Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) has said that installation of street lights on the Third Mainland Bridge will be completed in April. Making this known when he spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), an engineer with the agency, Mr, Oladimeji Abayomi, said in Lagos Wednesda   that contractors handling the project were currently tracing the faults and clearing them.

He said that more lights would come on every week until all the faults were cleared. “The contractor is on ground, the work is ongoing. They are tracing faults underground and laying cables.

“When you are tracing a problem, you may meet a bigger one that needs to be solved. Anytime from March or April this year, the work would be completed,’’ he said.

He decried the power outages and outrageous billing system, which he said, was the bane affecting the lights on the bridge. Abayomi explained that the agency relied more on generators to power the lights from five different substations in the state.

He said the agency had to continue to supplement Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) with generators pending when its plan to change to solar energy materialised. Minister of Works, Mr. Mike Onolememen, had in October 2012, directed a team of engineers to tackle electrical problem on one of the expansion

HealthRe: Lagos Shut Mile 12 And Ketu Markets Over Abuse Of Sanitation Law by Reyspin(m): 10:07am On Jan 23, 2013
Drock4christ: In its strides to keep a healthy and sustainable environment in the state, the Lagos State government has shut down Mile 12 and Ketu fruit markets for not keeping to the state sanitation law.

Commissioner for the Environment, Tunji Bello, noted that both markets were closed for their flagrant abuse of the state environmental sanitation law and indiscriminate loading and off-loading of goods on the main road, thereby creating traffic bottlenecks for other road users.

According to him, there were inadequate toilets in the markets, while traders in the markets pollute the surrounding environment with human wastes.

He pointed out that the closure of the markets became inevitable after several unheeded warnings to forestall epidemics and other health hazards in the state.

Tunji Bello reiterated the fact the Government’s policy of not allowing traders reside in the market was still in force, adding that markets were meant for business activities and not for residential purposes and that converting markets for residential purpose would evidently have untoward consequences on the environment.

As conditions for the reopening of the markets, Commissioner Bello hinted that all illegal structures within the market must give way; traders in the market must make further commitment for patronizing the PSP operators and not cart pushers.

He also said that the traders must be prepared to re-organize the loading and off loading of their goods in such a way that would ensure free flow of traffic on the road.

“The traders in these markets must ensure their environment is clean, clear the adjoining road of street traders and make adequate provision for toilets to eradicate open defecation and urination, as well as sign an undertaking to abide by our sanitation laws before their markets can be re-opened” he noted.

The Commissioner further sounded a note of warning to all markets in the state that after several warnings and stakeholders meeting with respective market executives across the state, the state Government will not hesitate to shut down more markets if they refuse to abide and religiously observe the state sanitation Laws.

He also reminded Lagosians that global climatic weather conditions has become so unpredictable, as such, Lagosians should properly dispose their waste through LAWMA and authorized PSP operators.

NBC are jokers... They still get aired on Cable Tvz in Nigeria (even MTV On STV 6PM)... Banning this song wont work, just lay down stiffer measures for any Television station that intend airing in Nigeria about the kind of Contents you want them showing and time limit...Any Television Station that errs should be dealt with.

okpara ugo: Nobody is defending GEJ, his priorities are most times distorted. He once didnt have shoes but today 1billion is small for his feeding in one year.

This is actually the behaviour of all Nigerians. That is what our leaders represent, they are from among us, they forget their roots once they get there. But i dont see how a delapidated hostel with a Rector/V.C. and dean of students affairs will start attrcting GEJ's blame. Even in sectors with excess budgetary allocations, what we see is embezzlement by government officials who should utilize these funds for the common man.

The problem is, how do we change this mindset of public funds embezzlement huh
Yes ooo.. There is a great disconnect between our Leaders and their roots..even the ones with humble beginning... We all come here to criticize but when given the chance to Govern/lead we go do like say we no even know the plight of the masses...

PoliticsRe: Your Thoughts On Jonathan's Comment At Police College, Ikeja? by Reyspin(m): 12:52pm On Jan 19, 2013
Sincere 9gerian: This report by Punch is most likely false, mischievous, fallacious and ridiculous.

Punch is a WELL KNOWN opposition news media organisation. As I post this comment, I'm watching Channelstv Sunrise programme. One of the presenter (the male) confirmed that he was there live and commended the president for coming, though he said if not for the Channelstv exposee, the president wouldn't have come.

Most importantly, the Channelstv owner, John Momoh, was there live and accompanied Mr president all thru. Mr president couldn't have allowed him to accompany the team if he saw something wrong in what Channelstv had done.

The Channelstv that started all this reported Mr president's visit very well and nothing of such was contained in any of their report. Channelstv has been beating its chest since yesterday for triggering what led to Mr president visiting the police college.

I must also add that if indeed Mr president said those things in the same context as Punch and Nations (another ACN media house) reported, then Mr president erred in my opinion. No effort must be spared at exposing any rot ANYWHERE in the system, provided security of the nation will not be breached. Everyone must be held accountable.

The reality is that there's so much incompetence and nonchallance in the public sector. Most times even the SIMPLEST of things (as little as dusting of ones table or cutting of grass) are left undone because of govt property mentality.

Whatever, is the case, the police college will not remain the same again.
Cant you guys read between the lines? Channels TV aired the mess, the President visits the mess accompanied by Channels Television owner. If you have been watching Channels Television lately you will know that Channel Television is now JoMomoh Television.

This is all propaganda from the On-set...

PoliticsRe: Patience Jonathan Heading To Spain For Treatment - Saharareporters by Reyspin(m): 10:40am On Jan 14, 2013
infotrust: Nigerian First Lady, Patience Jonathan, is scheduled to visit hospitals in Germany and Spain in a few days, according to medical sources in Abuja.

Mrs. Jonathan, who returned to Nigeria last year after a prolonged stay at a German hospital, is officially headed for Spain but our source said she is scheduled for medical treatment in Germany to ready her fit enough so that she can attend an African First ladies event scheduled for Addis Ababa later in the month.

Since her tumultuous return from her extended trip abroad last year, Mrs. Jonathan has remained largely marooned inside the Presidential villa only attending few public events and church services in Abuja. Although SaharaReporters fully reported on her medical excursion in Germany throughout her absence from Nigeria, she claimed not to have been in a hospital.

Our source said the First Lady has been struggling with a variety of ailments that have refused to go away, some of them being complications relating to the surgery she embarked upon during her medical trip abroad.

Concerning Mrs. Jonathan’s trip to Spain, it is known that she had previously attended "health farms" in the Malaga area of the European country. It is there that a former Nigeria First Lady, Stella Obasanjo, tragically lost her life in a cosmetic surgery operation in 2005.
