Nairaland / General / 'no Passport Materials In Nigeria' by Richbee(m): 7:37am On Jan 27, 2017
A friend of mine called me some months ago from one of the Asian countries. He said he was planning to come home to renew his int'l passport. Ha! I was perplexed. because u want to renew ur passport u wan waste over half a million naira! He explained that he has been to the Nigerian Embassy over there and they said they can't do it. He travelled to neighbouring countries, still the same thing. I was just disappointed. In this age and time! So I decided to call the immigration office with a number I got off their website. To my dismay, the responder said I wasn't allowed to call this number. and I am like, why then did u put it up? I finally decided to go to one of their offices to make enquiry. Only for me to be told that 'Nigeria presently have no passport materials' Haaaa!!! that was a killing moment. Was just speechless. Abeg where are we going in this Nation. I don't know for sure if what they said is true. but if it is the truth, then its truly pitiable.

Who else is watching/did watch the documentary film? I'm not that old to authenticate those accusations but if what they saying is true, I don't think I'd want such person as a leader.

That documentary gave me the shivers...

Older peeps amongst us should help verify these findings.

Jokes Etc / A Girl's First Time. by Richbee(m): 8:44pm On Dec 17, 2013
As you lie back your muscles tighten. You put him off for a while searching for an excuse, but he
refuses to be swayed as he approaches you.
He asks if you're afraid and you shake your head bravely. He has had more experience, but it's the first time his finger has found the
right place. He probes deeply and you shiver; your body tenses; but
he's gentle like he promised he'd
be.
He looks deeply within your eyes
and tells you to trust him-he's done this many times before. His cool smile relaxes you and you open wider to give him more room for an ease entrance. You begin to plead and beg him to hurry, but he slowly takes his time, wanting to
cause you as little pain as possible.
As he presses closer, going deeper, you feel the tissue give way; pain surges throughout your body and you feel the slight trickle of blood as he continues. He looks at you concerned and asks you if it's too
painful. Your eyes are filled with tears but you shake your head and nod for him to go on.
He begins going in and out with skill but you are now too numb to feel him within you. After a few moments, you feel something bursting within you and he pulls it out of you, you lay panting, glad to have it over.
He looks at you and
smiling warmly, tells you, with a
chuckle; that you have been his most stubborn yet most rewarding experience.
You smile and thank your dentist. After all, it was your first time to have a tooth pulled.
MAN PEOPLE ARE CREATIVE.
Health / How To Achieve Weight Loss By Yourself. by Richbee(m): 3:51pm On Dec 02, 2013
The healthiest way to lose weight is neither crash diets nor bursts of exercise. The body likes slow changes in terms of food and exercise.
For example, someone who hasn't exercised for years shouldn't rush into running miles a day or pounding the treadmill. Not only will the struggle to do so leave you feeling disheartened and demotivated, you're also far more likely to injure yourself and set your fitness levels back further.
The same goes for people who suddenly start starving themselves. Diets that severely restrict calories or the types of food 'allowed' can lead you to be deficient in the nutrients and vitamins that your body needs.
So, if you need to lose weight, what should you do?

Energy needs and weight loss

Your body uses food for energy. It stores any excess energy as fat. This means if you eat more food than your body needs for daily activities and cell maintenance, you'll gain weight.
To lose weight, you need to get your body to use up these stores of fat. The most effective way to do this is to:
reduce the amount of calories you eat
increase your levels of activity.
This is why experts talk about weight loss in terms of diet and exercise.
Introduce changes gradually
Small changes can make a big difference. One extra biscuit a week can lead you to gain 5lb a year – cut that biscuit out of your diet and you'll lose the same amount.
You're also more likely to stick to, say, swapping full-fat milk for semi-skimmed or making time for breakfast each morning than a diet that sets rules for all foods.
You should think of weight loss in terms of permanently changing your eating habits. While weight-loss goals are usually set in term of weeks, the end game is to sustain these changes over months and years, ie lifestyle change for life.

Increase your activity levels

Someone who increases the amount they exercise, but maintains the same diet and calorie intake, will almost certainly lose weight.
No matter if you hate gyms – even light exercise, such as a short 20 minute walk, will be beneficial if done most days of the week.
Every single time you exercise more than usual, you burn calories and fat.
There are lots of ways to increase the amount of activity you do. Team sports, racket sports, aerobics classes, running, walking, swimmingand cyclingwill all improve your fitness levels.
Find something you enjoy that's easy for you to do in terms of location and cost. You're then more likely to build it into your routine and continue to exercise, despite inevitably missing the odd session through holidays, family commitments, etc.
Get out and about at the weekend. Leave your car on the drive and walk to the shops. Try to incorporate longer walks into outings to the park, coast or countryside and take a picnic, so you're in control of what you are going to eat that day.
Every extra step you take helps. Always use the stairs instead of the lift, or get off the bus a stop before the usual one and walk the rest of the way.
Use commercial breaks between TV-programmes to stand up and do exercise, or consider using an exercise bicycle in the living room while watching your favourite programme.

Reduce your calorie intake

What is overweight?
Doctors use BMI to assess weight.
A BMI of 18.5 to 25 is healthy.
If you have a BMI of more than 25, you're overweight.
Over 30 is obese.
Over 40 is morbidly obese.
To calculate your BMI, you'll need to know your weight in kilos and your height in metres, then follow the example below.
1. Multiply your height by itself, eg 1.7x1.7= 2.89.
2. Divide your weight (eg 80kg) by this figure.
3. 80 ÷ 2.89= 27.7.
27.7 is the BMI.
If you're overweight, you can't continue with your current eating habits if you really want to lose weight.
It's not possible to reduce body fat while eating lots of food, cakes and sweets. This doesn't mean you can never have any treats, but you need to learn how to limit these foods to small quantities – say, for special occasions.
In terms of weight-loss, you can get your body to use up existing stores of fat by eating less and making healthier choices.
This doesn't mean crash diet (anything less than 1500 calories), which usually ends up with you either getting weaker or giving up in desperation. Quick-fix diets can lead to a yo-yoing effect of drastic weight loss followed by weight gain, resulting in a vicious cycle.
There are no shortcuts to losing weight in a healthy and reasonable way.
Eating 300 to 500 calories less per day should lead to a loss of between one and two pounds per week. This is a realistic target. It may seem slow, but it would add up to a weight loss of more than three stone in a year.
Fatcontains the most amount of calories out of all the food types ( protein, carbohydrates), so a good way to achieve this is to cut down on fatty foods and eat more wholegrain bread, fruit and vegetables.

Below are ways to reduce calorie intake without having to alter your diet significantly.

Replace fizzy drinks and fruit cordials with water.
Swap whole milk for semi-skimmed, or semi-skimmed for skimmed.
Eat less lunch than usual. For example, make your own sandwich and limit the use of margarine or butter and full-fat mayonnaise (store-bought sandwiches often contain both).
Stop taking sugar in tea and coffee.
Have smaller portions of the food you enjoy.
Avoid having a second helping at dinner.
Cut out unhealthy treats – such as confectionary, sugary biscuits and crisps between meals.
Cut down on alcoholintake.
All these things will influence your health in a positive way.
Finally, don't be tempted to skip breakfast – or any meal to lose weight. While skipping a meal will reduce your calorie intake for that hour, it will leave you much hungrier later on.
Not only are you likely to overeat to compensate, but you'll often make bad choices to fill the gap: a cereal bar is not as healthy as a bowl of cereal or as filling, leading you to 'need' something extra for lunch.
Irregular eating habits also disrupt your body's metabolism, which makes it harder to lose weight in the first place.

Politics / Commercial Drivers And Conductors In Lagos To Start Wearing Uniforms. by Richbee(m): 10:02am On Nov 15, 2013
Recent development in Lagos state has it that as from January 2014, all commercial drivers and conductors are to be on a particular uniform.

Not only that, the state government ordered that a driver or conductor can only be allowed 8 hours of work thereafter he retreats for a break and hands the steering to some other persons to continue to day's work.

How freaking hilarious can it be?
I'm kinda neutral on this ground. I'll just fold my arms and see how it unfolds.

What do u think of dis?
Politics / Just Where Is Nigeria Heading To? by Richbee(m): 4:04pm On Nov 14, 2013
Hello y'all.
I just have a piece or two to unveil. The eaglets of Nigeria were rewarded wif cash worth 2million naira by the president and also titled 'officers of the Niger'. Yeah, I saw no wrong in that cos for real, they made us proud.

Not until I heard people, notable Nigerians saying that the money was too small and I was like... huh? This morning, in the news, it was said that babaginda gave them anoda 20m and some landed properties. Imo state govt, rewarded the players from his state that were on the team.

It got me thinking. Just for playn football all these?
When was the last time we had a reward for academic excellence in our country?
They complain sayn that they don't trust the youths of our days because most aint ready to open the books? How can? When all that our leaders do is to push the attention of our young ones to the things that aint essential.

We have the best graduating students from federal universities receiving prize worth #10,000 and I say to mysef, hws deceiving who? Scholarships are awarded and are paid after a year. busuary worth 5k are given to students if they are even lucky. Industrial training funds for I.T students are paid years after graduation.

The education of a nation is very paramount and its the duty of the govt to encourage this.

I aint sayn these rewards are wrong, all I'm sayn is that I fink there should be a balance in everything.

Food / Gluten Intolerance: An Effect Of Consumption Of Wheat And Wheat Produce. by Richbee(m): 6:22pm On Nov 07, 2013
I'm actually not here to scare anyone, but more like sanitize the general public of recent happenings and discoveries.
Gluten is the protein found in wheat and other grains and is hugely responsible for the rise in form of bread and other confectionaries, thus making it one of our daily consumption.
However, researchers have discovered that a situation called 'gluten intolerance' has prevailed, in that the body no longer accepts gluten for digestion and thus leads to other scenario that causes discomfort to the body.

Symptoms include diarrhea, bloating, muscular discomfort and joint pain, abdominal disturbances amongst others and it cuts across all age group.

The only solution to this is to maintain a 'gluten-free' diet and that is exactly what the united state government are trying to implement.

The funny thing is that we Nigerians, always find ourselves living the western dream. We have cassava flour that can do just fine for us, not to talk about its numerous benefits which includes having a low glycemic index which in turn reduces the rate of obesity and other NCDs' (non communicable diseases) and we outrightly rejected it.

Cassava bread is the only solution to this and now that we have the 'high value cassava flours' we can actually sit back with no fear and consume this product.

FIIRO and other agencies are working tirelessly to ensure the reduction in 'gluten intolerance' prevailance and its up to us to decide to the switch or not.

Ciao...

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Actress Kerry Washington,
who was nominated for an Emmy for her role in
the ABC television drama "Scandal," was named

People magazine Executive Editor Elizabeth

sense.
"There has been a trend this year in lady-like
fashion and I think she is almost single-
handedly responsible for it," Sporkin said in an
interview.
Although Washington nabbed the best dressed
title, Lawrence, the winner of this year's best
actress Oscar for "Silver Linings Playbook," was
cited as having the best high fashion style, and
actress Jessica Chastain, the star of 2012's "Zero
Dark Thirty" had the best red carpet style,

Solange Knowles got top marks for style risk-

Actress Emma Stone, the star of "The Amazing

The celebrity magazine said it compiled the list
after getting input from its editors, its 42 million
readers and fashion directors and bloggers.
The magazine also looked back at fashion
moments of the year, citing actress Sarah Jessica
Parker's haute punk mohawk headdress by
designer Philip Treacy at the Met Ball in New
York and first lady Michelle Obama's bangs,
which she has recently grown out.
