claremont: I don't see how adopting a western name correlates with 'get far quickly'. I am one of those Africans/Nigerians who have a purely African name. I have never been vilified on the account of my name; on the contrary, I have actually been praised for the richness and cultural depth of my name especially by those who eventually get to know what the name means.
Inasmuch as I believe that immigrants should integrate into some aspects of the culture of their host, an immigrant who chooses to adopt a western-sounding name is not integrating, but rather, he/she is simply succumbing to an inferiority complex.
I'm sure you were just being sarcastic anyway, but otherwise, this is a well-written article. I second this, if they can learn how to pronounce Chinese, mexican and Spanish name. they should also learn how to pronounce Nigerian names, wetin sef |

f8luv87: does community colleges require evaluation too? ooh girl, pls don't waste your time doing any evaluation, they wont even look at it or ask you for it, but if you have a bsc, you can be exempted from writing college readiness exams i.e TSI, (that's for people in texas), don't have an idea of where you are going to. am an immigrant here and am resuming in Houston community college by September, i wrote all the test required and also an English placement test(English is not our first language)but if you wrote SAT and scored 1500+ and above you can also be exempted too, all d best. but it will do you a lot of good to forget a CC and find a university, cause after two years in CC you will still transfer to a uni to do 3 yrs,or four yrs (depending on your course) try and channel your strength to a uni and you can finish in four years or 3 |

samsonbazy: Can d first class graduates in CU can ever compete with second class upper graduates in universities lik OAU,UI,Unilorin, and Unilag?why there is no any CU student has come first or second in inter-campuses debates organised for under graduate Law students and medicine students?why is it easier to gain admission into CU than federal universities like OAU,Unilorin,UI,Unilag,UNN? Rhetorical questions. that is the stupid thing that is worrying Nigerians like you. you think its easier to get admission in CU, you are very wrong my friend. even with 200+ in jamb your admission is not sure (speaking from experience). You are just backward. people will be hating on private schools like say tomorrow no dey. Corruption is every where and you ave not heard every ones story. AND pls don't ever mention UNILAG again, those ones are corrupt to the marrow, they don't give admission on merit again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

lordfamuu: Am I d only one feeling dere is a foul play somewhere? I dnt trust private schools a bit, same tin dey did to waec. Anyway, I'll wait till when dose "first class" products 4rm private unis start making waves in d world's top universities dey are been sent to like deir counterparts 4rm public Unis. Den we will know if dey worth d glory dey are claiming down here. People like you that don't know anything about CU will be talking trash. just cause you cant afford it. 2 years ago CU sent back swarms of freshers who defaulted in their waec. Private counterparts are here to stay, they will make waves in Nigeria and all over theglobe its just a matter of time and they will get there |

I'm not saying he doesn't have a right not to mention his school, for what its worth, the person that asked that question is dim because telling him the school wont change anything as most funding is done by department and not the graduate school per se but still all this equivocation doesn't help our cause really. Witches and wizards. Loool, Nigeria will never change. Same thing here, collected my visa today. Can u believe that my folks asked me to stop going out or visiting people and should never talk about my visa success because of the same witches and principalities nd powers. Its well.
