A woman, Adetomiwa Banks, 26 threw caution to the wind when she decided to settle scores with her girlfriend, Nike Sevrano by using a razor blade to lacerate her face.

The accused was alleged to have used a new razor blade to slash the victim’s face and body for snatching her lover.

The incident happened at 15, Ramoni Oke Street, Itire, Surulere, Lagos where both reside.

Trouble started when the complainant allegedly started dating the boyfriend of the accused. The boyfriend, it was gathered, dumped the accused and started going out with the complainant.

This did not go down well with the accused who picked a quarrel with the complainant for snatching her boyfriend. While fighting, the accused reportedly took a new razor blade and slashed her face and body. She was quickly rushed to the hospital for treatment.

The matter was reported at the Itire police station and the accused was arrested and charged to court for assault.

She pleaded not guilty to the charge and the magistrate, Mr. A.A. Adefulire granted her bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties.

The sureties must show evidence of payment of tax to the state government and one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the accused, the court ordered.

The matter has been adjourned till 17 April, 2010 while the accused was remanded at the Kirikiri Maximum Security Prisons, Apapa, for failing to meet the bail conditions.

A middle-aged house wife, Sherifat Adegoke, has narrated to an Alimosho Grade ‘B’ Customary Court, Iyana Ipaja, how her husband cajoled her into making friends with their landlord’s daughters for him to capitalise on it and started sleeping with them.

The petty trader who resides at 73, Abeokuta Expressway, Adealu, Iyana Ipaja, Lagos explained to the court further how her husband and one of the landlord’s daughters, Joke ganged up and beat her mercilessly with horsewhip when she caught them pants down on their matrimonial bed.

Sherifat, who told the court that her husband’s extramarital affairs with their landlord’s daughters annoys her, claimed that she was ignorant of her husband’s motive when he encouraged her to make friends with them until she started meeting them in compromising positions in their bedroom.

She said she became furious and challenged him one day but was surprised when her husband and the lady, Joke pounced on her and beat her mercilessly.

Her words: “What really baffled me was that the lady joined him in beating me with horse whip.”

The mother of two said that that was not his first time of beating her, adding that her hubby often takes delight in beating her silly with horsewhip.

The aggrieved petty trader stated further that her husband always reacted violently whenever she asked him why he usually got home late in the dead of the night.

Sherifat told the court that she met her husband in 2008 and they got married in 2009, adding that the union was blessed with two children.

She told the court that since she got married to Adegoke, she has never enjoyed peace especially now that their landlord’s daughter had hijacked him from her.

She claimed that her husband started to beat her with belt but later resorted to using horsewhip.

“He always got angry whenever I ask him for money to take care of the family,” she told the court, urging it to dissolve the union and grant her custody of the children of the marriage since her hubby had chosen to fall in love with the landlord’s daughter.

In his defence, Adegoke, 42, denied all the allegations and explained that he did not purchase the horsewhip purposely for his wife, but to checkmate his colleagues who always play pranks on him.

Adegoke claimed that he had never given his wife problems but it was the woman that made the matrimonial home uncomfortable for herself.
