I applied for a job at standard chartered, did an interview last week. The position is an experience level but I will like to get honest feedback about what it's like working with standard chartered bank, specifically the wealth management department.

Good work environment and mouth-watering compensation and bonuses.

I have a friend that works there.

Did they advertise the experience hire?

I mean removing both the laptop battery and CMOS battery. Newer models laptop does not have cmos so ignore if your laptop is not having a cmos battery and only remove the laptop battery. It will make the cells in the motherboard to discharge completely and reset with time.

It doesn’t get to show the HP at all.

Only the fan starts to roll then goes off almost immediately.

Sorry about the issue that has affected your motherboard. I do not have an idea on the cost due to unavailability of most boards. You can drop the laptop model on this Forum to see if anyone has the motherboard or knows where you can get it. I don’t think it’s possible to replace or fix on-board processor.

The model is

HP EliteBook Folio 9470m

Another alternative is to remove the laptop and cmos battery, then keep the laptop for a month, two or more and then put back the batteries plugged to power and try switching it ON.

I don’t get the part of ‘removing the laptop’. Or your mean removing the laptop’s cmos battery?

If so how can I do that?

It may come back to life after a long period of time.

Yes your IT guy is right.

There’s need to take it to a trusted engineer for proper troubleshooting. Things that can cause system to ON and go off abruptly without booting as follows;

1. If a liquid substance has entered the laptop and penetrated through keyboard or back vent to the motherboard
2. If debris has blocked the processor cooling vent or heat sink
3. Faulty power
4. Defective motherboard
5. Damaged fan etc

So try booting it with battery and if it goes off abruptly, check the cooling vent to see if it’s dusty and blow the dusts off to allow adequate air flow into the processor.

I strongly advise you to take it for repair asap to avoid more damage on the motherboard in case its water that entered it.

A drop of ice from chilled bottle or sachet water can drop in the keyboard and penetrate into the motherboard.

You’re absolutely right.

The engineer showed and confirmed to me that water entered through the keyboard a while ago and thats what caused the issue. He said the processor is affected and we need to change it. However the processor is inbuilt and not the type that can be removed without touching the motherboard, hence practically the motherboard is gone.

Just wanted to confirm from you, is it possible to fix the processor without it affecting the motherboard?
Otherwise do you have an idea how much motherboard costs for this laptop model?

It’s possible the laptop has already had the issue before purchase but you didn’t noticed it at that initial stage. Try to run windows update to see if the system will update recent drivers that may resolve the issue.

HP EliteBook Folio 9470m developed issue last week after after I used it the night before.

When I press the ON button, the system do as if it wants to boot then goes off immediately..

Showed an IT guy in my department and he said it might be power IC and I should show it to an engineer.

Just want to get an idea of what the problem is and what I am to prepare for before taking it to an engineer.
