ABUJA – The meeting of the National Executive Committee, NEC, of the All Progressives Congress, APC is about to commence.
The meeting is the first since the landslide victory of the party in the last general elections that brought it to power, both at the center and in 22 out of 36 States of the federation.

The party had been enmeshed in crisis following the national assembly leadership election on June 9. And every move by the national leadership of the party to resolve the crisis had apparently failed, hence the NEC meeting.

Already, the national chairman of the party, Chief John Oyegun has arrived his office, waiting for other dignitaries and chieftains of the party who have the rights to attend.

President Muhammadu Buhari, the senate president, Dr. Bukola Saraki, the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the 22 governors elected on the party’s platform are among the party officials expected to attend the event.

Meanwhile, the road leading to the national secretariat, venue of the meeting has been cordoned off by a combined team of Army, Police and the Department of Security Service,DSS.

Upon his arrival, the President is expected to take a military salute at the outer entrance of the secretariat building proceeding to the hall. The meeting, however, is expected to be stormy and decisive as matters confronting the party are so weighty.

…President Muhammadu Buhari has stated that his
government will recover funds stolen by the past
politicians and bureaucrats of the past
administration in the country.

He stated this when speaking at a meeting with the
Governors in the Presidential Villa in Abuja today .
“The next three months may be hard, but billions of
dollars can be recovered , and we will do our best, ”
the President told the governors .

He warned that the days of impunity, lack of
accountability and fiscal recklessness in the
management of national resources are over in
Nigeria . “ There are financial and administrative
instructions in every government parastatal and
agency. But all these were thrown to the dogs in the
past.

“Honestly , our problems are great , but we will do
our best to surmount them, ” he stated .

Expressing surprise that the governors had tolerated
the atrocities allegedly committed with the Excess
Crude Account since 2011 , President Buhari
promised to tackle the issue decisively .

The President declared that the payment of national
revenue into any account other than the Federation
Account was an abuse of the constitution , adding
that what he had heard was going on in many
agencies and corporations, particularly the NNPC ,
was clearly illegal .
