There are clear instructions in the new testament that the old laws have been done away with. Even the ten commandments was 'reduced' or summarised to two laws which is to Love God and to Love our fellow man.

So if the NT says to do away with the OT why is it still there. And why do preachers use it selectively.

Why isnt christianity based on the whole bible?. Why did God change his mind from the OT to the NT. Why did he go from violent to loving.

PastorKun: The difference between past violence in Christianity and violence as a part of the Islamic religion till date is that in Christianity violence can never be justified by the teachings or way of life of the founder of christianity(Jesus) where as in Islam the founder(mohammed) not only gave lots of violent instructions, he was a man of war and he personally led several battles. This is the example his followers are following today.

However if we choose to say Jesus is the founder of Christianity and there is no violence in his teachings, does this mean Christianity is/should be based solely on the new testament and Jesus's life. Thereby doing away with ALL old laws including the 10commandments in the old testament.

As the founder of the faith as a whole, Christians can choose to follow the example of Abraham and kill in the name of God. And they have. In fact all christians need to do is follow the ways of God described in the OT and they would be violent and justified in it. So why copy a prophet of God and not God himself.

The only reason its not as widespread as Islam's extremities is because the recent trend of Christianity is to pick and choose which parts of the bible they choose to follow.

Very interesting and informative write-up. I too share your disapproval of Islamic radicals, and all religious extremists.

However I don't see why you should stop being sympathetic for the loss of innocent lives simply because they happen to be of the same religious affiliation of the extremists on another side of the world.

You forget that Christianity wasn't always a religion of peace, and if christians weren't always choosing parts of the bible they want to follow, it would still be a violent religion.

I see no difference between the god of Islam and the god of the Torah/Old testament. Abraham was willingly going to kill his son simply because his god told him to. So hows that any different from what BH and ISIS are doing. So if you can say Christianity is a religion of peace, then so can moslems.

So many atrocities have been committed in the name of religion, not just Islam and Christianity but others too. The common denominator here is religion. IF we solve that problem, everything else will fall into place.
