NEWSNigerian govt rubbishing human rights, must produce citizens secretly detained – Amnesty Int’lPublished on August 30, 2017 By Wale Odunsi

Global rights group, Amnesty International, AI, has accused the Nigerian government of secret and illegal detention of several Nigerians.

It insisted that the situation was total disrespect for fundamental human rights of the victims.

AI said it expects government to produce all those in its detention and charge them to court if there are allegations agains them.

The body said this as details of the charges slammed against 16 top Nigerian Government, Army and Police officials before the US District Court for the District of Columbia by lawyers of 10 pro-Biafra activists, emerged.

AI, on Tuesday, said that the enforced disappearance of persons, which is being perpetrated by government agencies, is prohibited under the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance, to which Nigeria is a state party.

Amnesty Int’l via a statement by its media manager, Isa Sanusi, in commemoration of the International Day of the Disappeared, called on the government to release details and whereabouts of all those it held or holding.

“Many families of the victims of enforced disappearance spend painful years searching for justice, truth and reparation but are ignored or misled about the fate of their relatives.

‘The authorities must do the right thing now by releasing all of them or disclosing information about their fate or whereabouts”, the statement quoted AI Director in Nigeria, Osai Ojigho, as saying.

Amnesty International said its research showed that most enforced disappearances take place in the conflict-ridden North-east of Nigeria where young men are often seized by the military after being accused of affiliation to Boko Haram.

The organisation said it obtained details of men, women and children who are victims of enforced disappearance in other parts of Nigeria.

According to figures provided to Amnesty by the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), at least 600 of their members’ whereabouts are not known since the clashes with the military in December 2015 in Zaria, Kaduna state.

The figures showed that more than 350 people are believed to have been unlawfully killed by the military between December 12 and 14, 2015.

Amnesty quoted the families of some of the victims who told the group about their painful ordeal of years in search for justice.

One Malama Zainab Isa told AI that her husband, Abdullahi Abbas, and their six children’s whereabout or fate is not known since the night of December 14, 2015, following the clashes in Zaria.

“He sells books at the Husainiyyah where the clashes took place. All six of our children were with him that day. Up to now we don’t know their fate.

“We don’t know whether the seven of them are alive or dead and no one is giving us any information that can ease our pain,” the group quoted the woman as saying.

Amnesty also quoted Ibrahim Aliyu, whose three brothers’ whereabouts or fate is not known since 2012 after arrest by state security services.

“Before my three brothers disappeared, we used to contribute money to support our extended family.

“Now without them, the burden is entirely on my shoulder. I have to do everything; take care of their families and provide for our mother.

“Our mother is now perpetually ill, because she thinks a lot about my brothers’ fate. Sometimes, I feel I can’t bear the pain anymore,” Aliyu added.

AI urged the Nigerian authorities to investigate all cases of enforced disappearances and bring all those suspected of criminal responsibility to justice in fair trials before ordinary civilian courts without recourse to death penalty.

“In addition, the authorities must provide full reparation to victims and their families, including compensation, rehabilitation, restitution, satisfaction and guarantees of non-repetition.”

“We call on authorities to investigate cases of enforced disappeara

The same US that supported Boko Haram by refusing to declare them a 'terrorist' group by Hillary Clinton.
The same US that started the propaganda of Bring Back our Girls which did not bring back any of the Chibok but succeeded in demonizing GEJ
The same US that supports ISIS in Syria by bombing Syrian Army and helped Alqaeda to take over Libya after lying that Gaddafi was killing his own people.
The same US that is still in Afghanistan fighting 'terrorism' for 16 years where Taleban has also resurfaced and Trump just announced a fresh massive deployment of troops.
The same US that was in Iraq when ISIS overran Mosul and Tal Afar and it took the Iraqis about 20,000 dead or wounded to recover Mosul last month.
The same US that has sanctioned and have threaten Venezuela with military action over a local political crisis because of their oil.

US has no moral right to tell us about Boko Haram as they have never succeeded anywhere in defeating terrorism

Meanwhile Nigeria just placed an order for 12 over priced piece of junk prop jet called Embraer A-29 Super Tucano aircraft at $600m ($50m each) to fight BH, same plane that was sold to Turkey for $21m recently.
Even western analysts have called the sale a rip off
ok if you say usa is evil then watch the people they visit in Nigeria when they send thier evil diplomat go and check each time they come to Nigeria it the northern governors and evil politicians they meet

They're now renting coalitions from SE and SS to come and show solidarity with them when the genuine people from their tribe could not come out to welcome their rag brother when he came back after 103 days medical exile. They also used the opportunity to continue their cry of a drowning man about the fraudulent and forceful unity. I don't know what they mean by "what ever it will take to keep Nigeria one" but what I know is that what ever they mean by that, we are fully ready for them, Biafra must stand no matter what it may cost, go tell that the raggy president.

Isn't this insanity

If you think that this country would be united forever, then you need to have a second thought. The agitation didn't start today, it's was Buhari that pushed it to this level due to his lack of foresight. Sometimes I wonder the kind of advisers he has. The person that advised Buhari to arrest Kanu deserves to be thrown inside the ocean for being a bad adviser. I am sure its the same person that is asking him to arrest him again .This time around would be total expulsion because even Ohaneze is now backing him.

There is nothing like hatred for others, what they are doing is lawful It's we Africans that are painting it black as if it's a crime.
Black man black mentality.

Igbos must be free so as we Yorubas whether my muslim brothers like it or not, I don't give a damn.

Re-arresting Nnamdi Kanu A Mistake Govt Must Avoids - Eastern Consultative Assembly (ECA)

Eastern Consultative Assembly, has warned that Nigeria will never recover from the consequences that would arise should the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu is rearrested.
The body stressed that it would be a miracle for Nigeria to survive should the IPOB leader, who commands millions of follower is rearrested.
In a statement by its secretary, Evang. Elliot Ugochukwu-Uko, the assembly described the first time Kanu was arrested as a mistake which Federal Government must avoid.
The statement reads partly, “For close to two years the world has been regaled by series of childish mistakes by the Nigeria Government, as regards to the manner the FG has handled agitation for self determination.
“The decision to re-arrest the most popular Easterner alive today in the believe that nothing will happen, is a very costly mistake, there will be consequences, from which Nigeria might never recover.
“Arresting him in October, 2015 was a big mistake. Denying him bail was another mistake. Executing his followers in cold blood in Aba, Onitsha, Asaba and Nkpor, a much bigger mistake.
“And now re-arresting a man who commands the fanatical following of millions of angry young men will definitely spur grave surprises for us all, head or tail, Nigeria will never be the same after Kanu’s re-arrest.
“This press statement is not addressed to the hard-hearing FG and its sectional defense and security network, whose minds are already made up, but just for the records and attention of the international community.”
The assembly further warned that rearresting Kanu while Arewa youths and Fulani herdsmen work freely will “spell doom for Nigeria.”
“Any attempt to re-arrest Kanu, especially without arresting the quit notice givers, genocidal song writers and herdsmen-murderers will spell doom for Nigeria.
” May the world never say nobody told them. Those plotting the re-arrest of Kanu do not know how deeply divided Nigeria is at the moment. It will be a miracle if Nigeria survives this re-arrest agenda.”
