I just stumbled upon this post on nairaland,.and I enjoyed it I would like to get your email to follow-up, I think you are really good at what you do.

It's 8:21pm.

Dear friend,

Amidst the Sowore arrest, the busy days I've had so far, my trip to Abuja and diving into real-life marketing activities, it feels great to hold my PC and get into the Nairaland domain.

What have I got in mind today? To be crystal honest, I DON'T KNOW.

But let's see what the gods of copywriting and marketing have in store for my relatively small mind.

Last time, we looked into copywriting from the angle of headlines. And I'm impressed with some of the headline responses I got. Really, I'm happy you all gave it your best shot.

Here's another headline I'm thinking of;

One 3.5Amp fast charger + one bass enabled headphone + one powerful infernoX device that lasts up to 5 days without turning off. And it's all in ONE DEAL.
20% off if you buy the infernoX before 20th December.

We can also take it further like this...

Who doesn't fancy a smartphone that's beautiful to look at while being powerful enough to let you enjoy your whatsApp chat without battery low signs; or too weak to stop you from conquering enemies on PUBG?

Wait.... you could also enjoy the instaLife for days with a full charge. post and upload your best moments, and even delete what you don't like online without those frustrating device hanging issues...

Yup pal, it's all packed in one deal - the 8000MaH InfernoX pro with octa-core (8 new generation processing cores) and a 4GB ram alongside a display that plays Quad HD videos...bla bla bla...

And if you want to take it further, you can do something like this at the end of your copy...

...and if you still don't like this device, we get it! Not everyone loves the latest smartphone, packed with features for your everyday life.

Just tell us in the comment section how sad you are with our product (Yes, we have provided a comment section, because we value your opinion...) and you'll get a response that stops you from ever seeing our product on your device AGAIN(sounds fair?)

But if you love it, We don't see why you shouldn't the first one to get this product in your hands. Since you'll be among the first 1000 people to get the infernoX, we are dropping this device in your hands at a bone-cracking 23% discount. Yeah. whatever makes the customer happy right?

And even though it's not the easiest thing to do considering the discount, we are giving you a 1yr warranty if you encounter problems with your device. That's a guarantee of quality for 12 complete months or 3-6-5 days even if you use your device every day.

The warranty is for everyone. But the full 23% discount? That really depends on you.

(Video of infernoX here)
Call-to-action Button here

So, I just pumped that into the bucket of nairaland. Oh...it's already 8:58pm (I guess I'm too slow with this thinking and typing thing).

But you get the picture of what we are doing here right? Okay, lemme tell you.

We are giving the infernoX life using just words from our head....also creating a picture in the customers' head for what their life will be like with the device.

We want the customer to see what this product is all about even before holding it in their hands. We want them to desire this "larger-than-life" product.

Now imagine targeting this copy to those who want to buy a device next month? Or when their device just got spoilt. BAM! You hit a market for the infernoX!

You must be asking, how would you know?! But friend, I tell you the truth, the 21st century has given us many tools. But that's not our topic for today.

So let's get back.

If you understand everything I did above, then in frank words "you have understood COPYWRITING."

If you still don't, future posts could help.

Now, let me break what I did up there a bit.

See the way I started by mentioning all the simple things you'd find in almost any device you buy today? Earpiece, charger, good battery, etc?

I mentioned them one-by-one as though only the infernoX device has them. And one of the best phrases in that headline followed ...all in one deal.

Everyone wants the best value for their money. And by singling all those items out, you create a PERCEPTION in the heart of the customers. (Established copywriters understand what I mean).

Your future buyers begin to feel like "wow! These guys are giving me a lot for my money...". You get what I mean now? haha...you should.

How do you think people sell simple watches for 10's of thousands of dollars and people still buy. (Oh...one new reason just popped into my head...wow...I won't tell you yet. I will test this idea on a product later and see if it works...I'm really impressed with myself.)

So, that's enough lesson for today right? Err...why do I feel you will say no.

Okay, lemme make all of us happy (myself included). Let me try writing another copy for business software that reduces the workload for smart business professionals. Choi...how will I begin?

Just watch and learn.
(Expect an assignment after this. if the engagement is high, we continue.)

So, business software.

Headline: Intelligent software stops you from working excessively for long cold hours in the familiar walls of your office. Best of all - it adapts to your needs!

Body

One software for the professional who wants to do their best at work and get their favorite ideas working - even in the shortest possible time.

(Do you see how I reintroduce the software again in more mouth-watering words?) Now, let's get on...

Even though it's quite unbelievable (see what I did here?), we've discovered there are only 3 types of business professionals.

- The Smart ones
- The giant-fingered folks
- The respected and distinguished royals

The smart guys know how to get every job done on time and in great condition. Of course, they make mistakes - but are smart enough to correct them before much damage is done.

They have elegant secretaries and well-designed brochures with great clients in their portfolio.

The giant-fingered folks as you may have guessed are the workaholics. They are the ones who shout at the top of their voice behind closed doors. Mostly tired and claim to "enjoy their job".

The respected and distinguished royals are rare to find. They know how to get the job done, and share a lot of characteristics with the smart ones.

However, unlike the smart ones, the royals go for vacations and seem to enjoy life and still manage to deliver unmatchably brilliant results. They are usually everyone's role model (We are guessing you know these ones).

So, you've been working late nights, heating your skin on boiling water and usually get so tired that there's less time for anything. Your eyes are looking so tired from coffee and late nights... even if that;'s not what you want.

You probably want to grow your reputation and build authority as a professional in your industry. And you want to do this without screaming in frustration when there's no one to listen.

Here's how we can help.

One software designed with the business professional in mind, Meant for the giant fingered professional that wants to grow to royal-level and even the smart folks that need more time to do what feels great.

What this utitlity can help you do:
(bla...bla)

Hope you see what I did there? I could complete this copywriting piece to the last and after edits use it to generate millions for any client that needs something similar.

But hey! I'm giving you for free on nairaland. To use it, edit it and MASTER the pattern. Not bad right?

Here's what I want you to do. Find a product or service, anyone of your choice and create a copy for me. Send it to the comment as an attachment. Or if you want to go private, send it via my email. I'll read it and respond to you where it can be corrected.

if I get up to 10 responses, we give it a go-ahead. Sounds good?

Night guys, it's nearly 10pm.

This is actually true, I was recently scammed. I actually doubted the standard of the wigs displayed for the amount. Also the fact that they are always doing a promo of buy 4 for 20k.

It looks real but they are scammers, many people are falling for their scam everyday. Please share your experience and help others.

I like to know how I can get my money back. Please. Share the steps that you took to get your money back.
Career / How To Make Employers Search For You by rita1234: 5:25pm On Aug 26, 2021
Do you know that you can make employers reach out to you with job offers?

Just like how big brands endorse celebrities and famous people, organizations also surf the internet to search for candidates that best fit their requirements. The question here is when an employer search for job candidates, would they find you?

Maybe not, but can you make employers search for you?

Yes, you can.

I know that this is unusual to many job seekers. In the usual setting, you will have to search for jobs, write a great CV, write a cover letter, apply for the position and prepare to convince the employer during the interview.

Even if we know that this is the usual job search process for many job seekers, the tables can turn.

You can save yourself the hassle of searching for job opportunities and competing with other job candidates by building your personal brand.

Yes, you heard it right, building your personal brand.

What does it mean to build your personal brand as a job seeker?

Many times when people hear about personal branding, what comes to their mind is an organization. Well, things have changed.

Now, individuals build their personal brand based on how they want to be perceived by others. Some job seekers have discovered the secrets of building their personal brand to stand out from other job candidates.

Building your personal brand as a job seeker simply means putting yourself out there to be easily found by employers.

It is no news that employers these days don’t make up their minds to hire a job candidate just based on the candidate’s CV. Many employers want to be sure the candidate can do what they claim they can do.

When a candidate has built his/her personal brand, it makes it easy for the employer to visit; their website or social media handle(s) to understand what the job candidate can do without so much stress.

Who doesn’t like things that are stress-free and less risky? (lol).

Why do you need a personal brand?

Your personal brand is basically marketing yourself and your career expertise. It shows what you stand for, what you’ve accomplished, and what you’re capable of achieving.

Having a personal brand provides benefits when it comes to finding a new job and staying relevant in your chosen field.

In case, you are still not convinced. You should build your personal brand because:

a. Employers are searching the web to find top talents for their vacant position. Building your personal brand helps you stay ahead of other job candidates so that when your name shows up in search engines they’ll find informative information that shows you in your best light.

b. Building your personal brand helps you show potential employers that you are intentional about your career goals.

c. Your personal brand serves as your marketing tool. You can use your personal brand to tell your own story, show details about your skills and abilities, and explain your core values in a way that you may not be able to in a traditional job-search format.

How can you build your personal brand as a job candidate?

I know you can’t wait to start getting job offers from employers without necessarily searching. Trust me that feeling is heavenly!

Before this can happen, you need to learn to build your personal brand. Don’t be worried, this is easy. We have all you need to know to get started with your personal brand.

How?

Career / See How You Can Apply For Fewer Jobs And Get More Interview Invites by rita1234: 11:47am On Jul 12, 2019
I know you must have applied to many Jobs and may not have gotten an interview yet.

Well, maybe you have to change your strategy. Sending hundreds of applications in one day may not be the best approach to getting an interview invite. Job-search is not a game of numbers, and so it does not follow the rule of the more you do the more you get.

Job-search is an intentional approach, so you have to put in your effort and be particular about what you are doing if you want a change. Just like I said earlier, you have to change your job-search strategy to get a better result.

I understand that job-hunting could be a really trying time that can lead to desperation, and it is desperation that will make you send hundreds of applications in a day. I know it is not easy not to send in too many applications, but this tips will help you send fewer applications that will fetch job interview invites for you:

1. Discover your Career path

I know you must have heard this many times, but this is the first step you need to take to tailor your applications.

I know the first question you would love to ask me is what is a career path? Well your career path is the particular channel you make up your mind to follow when you want to start searching for a job and building a career.

Discovering your career path is about deciding on the particular job field that you would love to grow and build your career in

2. Have a well-Tailored CV

As much as the CV has been emphasized, your CV is a key factor when you are searching for a job. The first contact that a prospective employer will likely have with you is your CV.

So, imagine that your prospective employer’s first contact with you is a poor CV. Most job-seekers love to have a one-size-fits-all CV so that they won’t have to create a new one when applying for a job.

So you may be tempted to use one CV for all your applications so that you can save time and send your applications faster. Using one CV for all your application will most of the time not land you an interview invite.

3. Create an Impressive Cover Letter

A cover letter gives you the opportunity to create an amazing first impression to your prospective employer.

Since this an opportunity for you to tell your prospective employer that you are the best person for the job, then you must do it well to get your desired result.

To make good use of the opportunity, you have to give your prospective employer reasons to hire you for that particular position. You should convince the hiring manager that you are the best person for the job.

4. Tailor Your Application
This is the fourth step to get a job interview with less job applications. Once you have been able to discover the kind of job that you want, created your CV and cover letter, then you can go ahead and tailor your application.

To tailor your application, you can now search for jobs that are within your chosen job field, book mark them then create time to settle down and tailor your CV and cover letter to the jobs that you are most qualified for.

For instance if you find 10 jobs that are around your job field, you will have to select 2 that you are most qualified for, then use the job descriptions of those 2 to create a good CV and cover letter before applying for the jobs.

5. Search for Jobs at the Right Time and in the Right Places

Job-search has a lot to do with research. According to research there are best times for you to search and apply for jobs than other times to reduce competition.

If you are sending your applications when the competition is less, there is a higher probability that your application may gain more visibility than it would in a more competitive season.

Sending in loads of poor applications doesn't work, I have tried it and it failed, until I started being very intentional and critical about the applications that I send was when I started getting interview invites.

I hope you will try this and thank me later. See full details on how to send fewer applications here.

Sample Answers to Andela’s Interview Questions that you may likely be asked

1. Tell me about yourself?

This is a common question, but a lot of people still get this question wrong. See sample answer that can help you answer this question perfectly.

These statements will guide your response to the question;

Talk about who you are professionally
Highlight your competencies
Talk about why you are here

Sample Answer

“I am an innovative software engineer with almost 2 years’ experience in building soft wares. Recently, I led a 5 man team that won the state prize for innovation few months ago. I am someone that thrives in a fast paced environment and I am currently looking for an opportunity to apply my technical experience and my creative problem solving skills at an innovative tech company like this.”

2. What project have you worked on before?

If you are applying for the post of a software developer, then there is a great probability that you would likely be asked this question, so you need to prepare well for this question.

When you are answering this question, you should focus on your process, implementation and final result on the project.

Sample Answer

“In my previous employment, I worked on developing software and website for the state. In order to get the website set up and the software for specific analysis on the site, I found out people that have a good knowledge of what the state wants to achieve with website and got their input on different project at different times.

I also identified different milestones that would be involved in completing the project, and I often went back to treat some bug issues at different stages of the project.

I thing that stood out for me on that project, was the fact that I was able to overcome all the challenges that I encountered during the course of the project, and was able to deliver on time even before the set finish date for the project. That was one of my most memorable projects.”

3. Have you worked in a team, what did the team work on, what was your role in the team and what was the challenge you face as a team and how did you handle it?

When you are answering this question, you should be sensitive enough to know that the interviewer is trying to see how well you can work in a team and to also see if you can thrive in a collaborative environment.

So your answers should emphasize how well you can work in a team.

Sample Answers

“In my previous place of work, I worked in a team of 10 people, and I was the team lead for a particular software project that we were working on. One of the major challenges that I experienced being the team lead for that particular project was that I had to deal with a team member that did not have the same enthusiasm that I had for the project.

Dealing with a particular team member made me take on more responsibility that was not very convenient for me. So at the middle of the project, I had to to call that particular team member and made sure I really explained to him the importance of the project to the company and why it has to be a success. He understood me and started being more result oriented.”

4. Can we see some of your works online?

To answer this question successfully, you need to prepare for the interview before hand. You should always have something to show online. Even if you have not worked in a company before as a software developer, you can embark on personal projects. This will help emphasize that you are actually who you say that you are.

Approach to Answering this Question

There is no need to talk too much when you are answering this question. All you need to do is to simply respond to the request as polite as possible and also go ahead to walk them through the features of what you have created.

You should also be enthusiastic to answer any question that you may be asked regarding the works that you have shown them.

5. What do you understand by Andela’s EPIC value and what does each value mean to you?

To answer this question correctly, you can start by stating the full meaning of the acronym EPIC, the relation of the entire values to Andela and give your opinion on what each of the values mean to you.

Sample Answer to part 1

“First of all, I understand that the word EPIC is actually an acronym which stands for;

E - Excellence

P - Passion

I - Integrity

C – Collaboration

Just as the acronym implies, I believe that these values that this company have held seriously and for a long time as well.

Sample Answer to pert 2 of the question

E – Which stands for ‘excellence’ is a mindset for me, even if it means to do things well and with care, I believe that excellence is a mindset that people have to put to be able to achieve desired result in any project. I also believe that excellence is what makes a person or organization stand out among others.

P- For me I believe that passion is one thing that is needed to thrive in any position and also needed to achieve set goals. For me I also believe that passion is one thing that anyone that wishes to succeed will have to find and for me I think that is what I have found with technology.

I – Integrity is a core value for anyone that has something to protect will have to acquire or build. Integrity is something that will help you build a name or brand in whatever field that you find yourself in.

C – Collaboration to me is achieving greater result. I believe that everyone has something to offer or to contribute, so creating a synergy with everyone in a team is a way the team as a whole can move forward and achieve collective goals.

Career / How To Get An Internship Position In Top Companies Like; Shell, Chevron, Pwc Etc by rita1234: 5:13pm On Jun 19, 2019
We know that getting a job in Nigeria is a serious business especially when you don't have the required experience.

It is not uncommon that a lot of people in Nigeria believe that it is impossible to get a job in a multinational or big company by merit. While this is not true, we also understand that great opportunities don't just land on your lap. So you could be fantasizing a great deal to think that a great opportunity will just come and meet you when you are sleeping.

If you prepare yourself and position yourself in the right place, getting the right opportunity is something that will surely come. I was amazed when I found out that many Nigerians working in tops companies actually got their jobs by merit.

I interviewed 37 people like that, and it shocked me to find out that people can actually work in shell and other big companies without knowing anyone there. The amazing thing about the interview I had with them was the fact that they shared with me how they got their jobs in these companies.

You can look at some of the tips that they shared with me here

I have been waiting for a comprehensive reply to Daddy Freeze ideas on tithing, and I am so glad that someone has finally responded to him. If you are not a strong believer Daddy Freeze's ideologies can drag you down your christian ladder.

It is very important for you to guard your mind and your faith. I understand that it may not be easy sometimes, but the bible talks about encouraging one another in christ.

I have always loved to share my thoughts on tithing with people, but when I saw this one, it was a dream come true to me, this blog did justice to this subject a great deal.

I would love you to read this tithing post here and share your thoughts with me in the comment section.
Career / See Why Many Nigerians Can’t Find Jobs by rita1234: 2:24pm On Mar 25, 2019
Have you wondered why many Nigerians find it difficult to get jobs?
Looking at the level of unemployment in Nigeria, it is obvious that there are so many unemployed people in Nigeria. The question is why can’t these people find jobs in Nigeria?
To give an answer to this question, MyJobMag carried out research on job-seekers to know how they are searching for jobs and guess what we found out:

See our findings:
Most job-seekers in Nigeria use social media to search for jobs
• A good number of Nigerians are unemployed
• Networking is one of the most effective ways to land a job in Nigeria
• Getting the right qualification is a step to getting employed in Nigeria
• The institution you graduate from has little to do with your employment status
• People in industries like; education, NGO’s, banking, ICT and healthcare are more likely to get employed faster.

See more about our findings:
How job-seekers search for jobs in Nigeria:
Have you thought of “you” being responsible for your unemployment? Well, maybe not. Technological advancement has changed the way people search for jobs now.

A survey by LinkedIn shows that 39% of job –seekers use social media as their number 1 job-search tool. The survey also shows that 75% of hiring managers report looking at LinkedIn profiles to learn about a candidate’s background.

Looking at the survey, we discovered that 74.8% of job-seekers search for jobs online (through social media, job boards, company career sites, and niche job boards).

This means that the traditional job-search medium like newspapers and posters are gradually going on extinction.
From the survey, it is quite obvious that online tools are the most effective and popular job-search tools that can help you land a job in Nigeria. So, if you are still searching for jobs on newspapers and posters, then maybe you are responsible for your employment delays.

Looking at the data above, it is obvious that social media is the next big thing when it comes to job-search and talent hunting.
Why 90. 5 million Nigerians are unemployed
The numbers are overwhelming, but the question is why are so many people in Nigeria unemployed? We surveyed over 1, 500 employed Nigerians to find out why they are employed. 61.19% revealed that they are employed because they are qualified.
From the data, we were able to find out that some Nigerians are unemployed because they are not qualified. Do unemployed Nigerians think they are not employed because they are not qualified? Maybe not.
We surveyed over 2000 unemployed job-seekers to understand the reason they think they are yet to get a job in Nigeria, see what we found out;

• We found out that 33.2% of unemployed job-seekers think they are unemployed because they don’t have connections.
• 24. 9% feel that they are unemployed because there are too many applicants.
• Only 4.5% of job-seekers are unemployed because they are not qualified.

Average first monthly salary of an employed Nigerian
Have you wondered how much you will end up earning when you finally become employed in Nigeria?
Based on our survey, we discovered that the average first monthly salary an employed Nigerian Graduate will likely earn is N47, 223.
We understand that you may wish to know your worth by discovering how much you stand to earn at the end of the month when you finally secure a job in Nigeria.

To help with this information, we carried out a survey on employed people in Nigeria to discover how much they earn as their first salary.

Least Used Job-Search Tools in Nigeria
Based on our survey, we have noticed that there are some job search tools that are least used by job-seekers in Nigeria. Looking at the environment that we live in as Nigerians and the recent technological trends, there are some job-search tools that may likely not work well here.
Based on the survey that we carried out, we noticed that very few employed Nigerians got their jobs through newspapers and niche job boards. So what does this means?

It means that these 2 job-search tools below are not very effective in Nigeria. Want to know why?

1. Newspaper: From the recent trends in technological advancement and the coming of the internet, there has been a great reduction in the number of people that depend on the traditional press for the dissemination of information.

Based on our survey, only 3.637% of employed Nigerians got their jobs through newspapers. This means that searching for jobs in newspapers is a practice that is gradually going on extinction.

So if you are depending on newspapers to get a job in Nigeria you may likely be missing out on some great stuff.

2. Niche Job boards: From our research, only 1.29% of employed Nigerians got their jobs through niche job boards. It is obvious that niche job boards are not so popular in Nigeria, and as such very few people use them.
So, if you are looking forward to getting a job through a niche job board in Nigeria, then you may consider losing out on some opportunities.
Looking at the job market and the information from the survey, we are quite aware of the fact that the rate of unemployment in Nigeria is pretty high, but the question here is what can we do about it?

To get and make the few jobs accessible, hiring managers and job-seekers alike are to discover the job-search medium that works, how it works and to better make good use of it.

I hope you found this information useful as a job-seeker in Nigeria. You can click here to see full survey report. Don’t forget to drop your comment if you do disagree with any fact stated above.

Career / 3 Important Things To Consider When Making A Career Change by rita1234: 4:10pm On Feb 12, 2019
I know you hate your job.

In my previous job, I worked as a data entry officer even if I could not even remember why I accepted the offer. At some point along the line, I noticed that I was almost getting frustrated with the job, and I wasn’t finding fulfillment in what I was doing.

So most times I could not even sustain my interest in the job, I made lots of errors that kept me under so much pressure. At that point, I knew I had not found my dream career and it was time for me to make a career change.

Do you want to know what I did?

I know you want to. What I did was simple; I just considered these three factors:

Before I go on to tell you what the factors are all about, I will love to share with you what I discovered about career change now.

What is Career Change?

Career change is simply one’s movement from a particular job field or group to another.

I used to think that career change is the same thing as a job change, but I discovered that they are two different things. Unlike its counterpart, career change involves a whole new direction while job change is simply moving from one job to another which can be in the same job field or company.

To make it clearer, I would like to give an example; imagine someone works in a particular company as a salesman, and after a while leaves the job or gets promoted and becomes a sales executive. What just happened is that the person just changed his/her job.

On the other hand, if the person leaves the sales/ marketing as a job field altogether and gets a job as web developer, then at this point you can say that the person has changed his/her career.

Knowing what career change is all about, I think it is now time for me to let you know the 3 factors I considered that made me find job fulfillment again.

3 Tips to Consider When Making a Career Change

1. Why Do I Want to Change my Career

Before you even think of changing your career, you should take the time to ask yourself this one important question “why do I want to change my career”. This is the first factor I considered when I was changing my career, and asking myself this question helped me discover a lot about myself.

Asking yourself why you want to change your career is very important because it actually serves as a moment of self-reflection and introspection for you. Knowing why you are doing something helps you stay focused, understand what you are doing better and also helps you make better decisions.

It is very necessary for you to get clear on the change you want to make and how you want to make it happen. Changing your career is not a decision you want to make hastily, it is something that you think through over and over before doing. It is common for people that are frustrated doing a particular job to decide to change a career. One thing you should take note of when you are thinking of changing your career is to understand the reason why you are doing that. Make sure you are not changing that perfect career because your boss is difficult to deal with or because you work in a toxic environment. Your decision to change your career should be based on tangible reasons that will have an effect on your career life as a whole.

Always consider your future career life and even the present whenever you are thinking of changing your career. You need to consider some of these before thinking of a career change:

• How will going into a new career affect my career life in the future?

• Is there something temporary about this present job and career that is making me want to change my career?

• Have I just gotten tired of what I do presently?

• Is this job too problematic for me?

• Do I just want to try something different?

• I there any growth path in my current job?

It can be really pressing to change a career especially when you are experiencing an unpleasant situation in your current job. Before you decide to make that career change, you should take the time to think about the cause of the situation. Surprisingly, the situation may not be as bad as it is if you did not contribute to it. Sometimes, your lack of efficiency or lack of skill-set can make you frustrated in a job.

It is quite normal for you to want a quick way out of a terrible situation, but you should also be able to consider the effect this situation will have on your career life as a whole.

2. When Should I Change my Career and How Ready am I?

This is one question that usually pounds on the mind of anyone that is thinking of a career change. It is impossible to give a plain calendar date as to when to give up on your career and look forward to a change.

When I first started hating my job, I did not know when I should change my career path until I felt really boxed up in a cage. I remember I had a reminder that alerts me every 5 minutes, it was that bad that I couldn’t wait for 5 O’clock every day. At that point, I knew it was time for me to change.

Although situations differ, you should not wait for it to get that bad before you look for a solution. Always make sure that your situations are as a result of the job and not you. I have always wanted to be a part of a building process, something more like creating something, but my former job kept me in a position that made my hands were tied. I could not make good use of what I had, so I knew I was wasting my time doing that job and I decided to go.

I may not be able to categorically pinpoint when you should change your career, but I think these suggestions can give you some signals as to when you should change your career.

You can change your career when;

• You feel extremely stressed: If your work imposes a great deal of pressure on you, and even probably health challenges, then maybe it is time for you to change your career.

Doing a job that doesn’t really work well with your body’s configuration may not be the best option for you. If you find out that you have little or no time at all to rest, and even if you manage to rest, you are only trying to freshen up to continue the work, then that might be an obvious red signal.

• Your work is the opposite of you: If you are doing a job that doesn’t represent you at all, then it could be the right time for you to change your career. Doing a job that is opposite of you don’t always have to do with you not performing well on the job.

It is possible for you to be very good at the job that you do and at the same time hate doing what you do. It is really hard to get fulfillment doing something that you don’t like to do. If your job makes it mandatory for you to undertake some responsibilities that you may not enjoy doing, then that is a signal that you are in the wrong place.

• You feel it is only your compensation that is keeping you: It is quite common for people to say “I will remain in that job because of my salary”. I have heard a lot of people say that many times, but the truth is once you start feeling like the only reason you are doing a particular job is the reward you get at the end of the day, then you should consider changing your career.

It is important for you to understand that your happiness and career satisfaction is often times more important than the compensation you get at the end of the day. It could be surprising that what may bring you happiness may pay off well enough later on.

• If you feel your time and talents are being wasted: If you feel that you are not making good use of your talents or if you feel like you are wasting your time doing what you are doing, then it may be the time for you to change your career.

That feeling that you are doing less when you are supposed to be doing more can make dissatisfied and even hate your job. Once this feeling starts coming up consistently, then it may be a signal that you need to change your job.

After taking a look at the possible situations that will help you know when you should change your career, you will also have to consider how ready you are to make that career change. This will help you determine if the career change is right for you.

A lot of factors are involved in making a career change. To successfully change your career, you will have to make sure that a lot of things are in place before you can seal the deal about making a career change. You may have to ask yourself these questions:

• How long will it take me to learn the new profession?

• Am I ready to start from the beginner’s level in my new career?

• Is there any growth possibility in this new profession?

• How well does my personality fit into my career?

• How flexible will it be taking up a new career?

• How well can I survive with the transition?

These are the questions you will need to ask yourself to determine how much you are ready to give up to change your career.

3. What are my Alternative Career Options?

The main reason why you are changing a career is to derive satisfaction and ultimately move forward in your career. Before you think of changing your career, you should take the time to find out what you want to achieve in your career years to come.

If you are thinking of making a career change, then you should consider going for a career that will help you achieve your career goal and interest. When you have finally decided to change your career, then you should consider other career options that will help you find fulfillment in what you do.

I know that the big question now will be how will I know the career options I should consider?

I can’t tell categorically tell you what career options you should consider, but there are some factors you will likely consider to know what kind of alternative career you should go for. Your options can be broad or slim depending on your skills/abilities or experience. People that are vast may have a wide option when it comes to a career change, but people that are more streamlined to what they do may have a slimmer chance.

The tips can help you determine your career options:

• Examine your skill set

• Take a list of your interest and abilities

• Examine your experience in the different field aside from the one that you are doing now

• Make a list of occupations you want to explore

• Do in-depth research on the career options that you have chosen (find out what you need to excel in this job field)

• Identify the goals you want to achieve and how they fit into the new career

• You can consider talking to a mentor

Changing your career is far more than changing your job role or merely changing your job environment. If you are thinking of changing your job, then be sure you are doing it for the right reason. Even if you are changing your job for the right reasons, then you will need to research more about the job field and be sure it will worth the change.

If you are about to change your career, then these 3 factors will help keep you on the right track while you are trying to take the next step in your career. Are you confused about how to write a cover letter for a job application?

This guide will show you how to write the perfect cover letter for a job application. We also included a sample cover letter template to help you get started faster.

With our well-crafted guide, you will learn:
-What a cover letter is
-About the perfect guide to writing a cover letter
-How to structure and format a cover letter

What is a Cover Letter?

Before you start writing your cover letter in the first place, it is important for you to know the aim and purpose of a cover letter in the first place. A cover letter is a document that provides additional information about your skills and experience which is usually accompanied by a resume.

The cover letter provides details about why you are qualified for a particular job. Never make the mistake to think that a cover letter is another copy of your resume, you should rather see it as a sales pitch that will help you get an invite and afterward the job.

The cover letter and the application letter are slightly different because an application letter can stand alone unlike the cover letter that is usually accompanied by the CV. However, it is commonplace for the cover letter and the application letter to be used interchangeably in our society. So when you are asked to submit an application letter as a requirement for a job application, then you can submit the cover letter.

A Guide to Writing the Perfect Cover Letter

These are really simple cover letter guides that would help you get interview invites faster than before:

Heading

A good cover letter should have a heading which usually appears at the beginning of the cover letter. When writing your cover letter, ensure the heading matches with that on your CV. The heading should include your present residential address, phone number, and email address. Always remember to align all text to the left margin.

Example;

Your Contact Information;

Your Name

Your Address

Your City, State Zip Code

Your Phone Number

Your Email Address

Date

Employer Contact Information;

Name

Title

Company

Address

City, State Zip Code

Heading (For email cover letter)

When creating an email cover letter, the format for the heading is slightly different from the hard copy cover letter. When you are writing the email cover letter, the subject of the mail is simply a statement of your intent in applying for a particular role. Unlike when writing the copy cover letter, the heading is simply the subject as explained above – without contact address, e-mail etc.

You will need to use a strong subject line that will give the hiring manager the first impression of you.

Write an Attention Getting Introduction (First Paragraph)

The first paragraph of a cover letter is one of the most important aspects of the cover letter because that is what the recruiter or hiring manager will see first. To write a good cover letter, you should start your introduction with a greeting/salutation. You should start your cover letter salutation with Dear sir./madam./Mr./Mrs.

You should be very careful not to address your hiring manager wrongly when you are trying to greet. You should take your time to research the hiring manager to find out his/her name, but if you can’t do that, then you can simply address them as “Dear Hiring Manager”.

Another information you should add to your first paragraph is introducing yourself. After greeting the recruiter, you can then go ahead to introduce yourself. Introducing yourself doesn’t mean you should tell the recruiter about your life history, you should rather introduce yourself by telling the employer the position you applied for and how you learned about the position. Always remember to keep your introduction short and straight to the point.

Sell Yourself to the Recruiter (Second Paragraph)

Since the cover letter is a marketing tool, then you should seize that opportunity to sell yourself to the recruiter/prospective employer. The second paragraph should more or less be a response to the job description, which gives you an opportunity to convince the hiring manager that you are a good fit for the position.

To properly sell yourself to your hiring manager or prospective employer, you should tell the hiring manager how your skills, previous experiences, and abilities will enable you to meet the company’s expectations. Using words or phrases from the job description in your cover letter can help you sell yourself better.

See Yourself in the Company (Third Paragraph)

In the third paragraph, you have to go a step above selling your skills and abilities the hiring manager. This paragraph has to do with you being a part of the company’s vision. The purpose of this paragraph is to make the hiring manager see how well you fit into the company. This paragraph will require you to carry out a research about the company and its vision.

This paragraph will help explain how you fit into the company structure and how you can help push the company forward to achieve its goals.

Anticipate the interview (Closing Paragraph)

In the closing paragraph of your cover letter, you should restate in a way the skills that make you a good fit for the job and why you would love to work for that particular company. You should also state that you would appreciate the opportunity of an interview/employment discussions. Anticipating the interview will help you prepare better for the interview.

It is also important for you to explain what you intend to do to follow up and how you intend to it (you can tell them that you would send them a mail in one week if you don’t hear from them. Always remember to thank the employer for considering to read your letter.

For email cover letter, the closing can be quite different. You are expected to formally sign off when writing an email cover letter. The sign off can include your contact information or your email signature after your valediction.

Example: Sincerely,

Rose Samuel

Data Entry Manager

Facebook/LinkedIn handle (if necessary)

001-005-6676 (telephone number)

How to Structure and Format Your Cover Letter

Have you thought of structures or formats you should use in your cover letter? Maybe not, but they are really important. Aside from the actual content on the page, the overall structure and format of your cover letter give an impression of you to the hiring manager.

You should also structure and format your cover letter in such a way that it won’t be sifted out on the ATS (applicant tracking system). Since some companies use the ATS to sift cover letters, then it is important for you to format your cover letter. Since ATS usually work based on keywords, then having the right keywords on your cover letter is key. By directly responding to the job description and using phrases from it to describe yourself and skills can help you optimize your letter for the ATS.

General Cover Letter Structure and Format

These are few tips to help you format and structure your cover letter:

Fonts

When you are choosing a font for you tor cover letter ensure to keep it professional and simple. It is not advisable for you to use extremely fanciful fonts for your cover letter. It is better to stick with simple and professional fonts like Arial, Calibri, Verdana, Times New Roman etc. using fanciful font may not make your words clear enough to the recruiter or the ATS.

You should also use size 10 – 12 points for easy better readability. Using a bigger font size will make your letter look unprofessional and a smaller size may be difficult to read.

Alignment

The alignment of margin should be uniform throughout your document. You can use “1- 1.5” margins, they are always safe. Using the proper margin prevents you from having a cramped up content. Then on alignment, it is advisable to align your content to the left.

Align your text left and use standard 1-inch margins all the way around. If your letter is spilling off onto a second page, first reread it and see if there’s anything you can cut. If you can’t cut anything, you can consider shrinking the margins to ¾” or ½”, but avoid going smaller than that so your cover letter doesn’t look squished on the page.

Spacing

Good spacing is really essential for the readability of your cover letter. Spacing your cover letter well will help your hiring manager read it easily. Make your cover letter single-spaced, it is good to add a space between each section of your cover letter.

Length

You should not have more than 3-4 paragraphs on your cover letter. Try to keep your cover letter to a single page, to achieve this, you must make sure you are able to communicate the essential information in fewer words.

File Format

Your cover letter should be saved in compactible file formats, the file formats should be one that can be easily downloadable. Sometimes hiring managers make use of the applicant tracking system to sift cover letters, so it necessary to save your documents in a compatible format (either word or PDF). You should take note of the name you give to your document, you can rename them to something that is more specific. You can use this format of first name - last name - cover letter (e.g. John – Peters – cover – letter.doc) to make it easily recognizable for the person viewing it.

Edit and Proofread Your Cover Letter

It is very important to proofread your cover letter to be sure there are no errors before you attempt to send them out. It may sound small, but small errors can ruin the whole cover letter. You can read it over and over again or ask a friend to help you go through to make sure there are no errors. Career / Job Search Mistakes To Avoid In 2019 by rita1234: 2:26pm On Dec 21, 2018
Why do you think you still do not have a job yet?
You probably must have thought of things like; “Maybe it is because I don’t have anyone to help me”, “I think I studied the worst course ever” or “I think I am not just lucky about getting a job at all”. These are the thoughts that will come to your mind first, but have you ever thought of “you” being the culprit here.

You can make your job-search period more stressful and longer than it is supposed to be, even if you don’t intend to. Not preparing for a job search at all or showing up late for an interview are little mistakes (you should avoid in 2019) that can stop you from landing your dream job. So if your job-search has lingered for a long time, then you should definitely avoid these job-search mistakes

Before searching for a job
1. Failure to choose a career path
Many job-seekers are desperately in need of a job, so they tend to be comfortable with any job that comes their way. Not choosing a career path can make your job-search really confusing.

2. Not choosing a career path that best fits your interest and skills
Searching and applying for random jobs that you find anywhere is one job-search mistake you should avoid as a job-seeker if you want to have a more tailored and focused job-search.

3. Not preparing for a job search at all
Many job-seekers don’t know that searching for a job is a job on its own. Before you go ahead to search and apply for jobs, you should make sure you have discovered your career path, created a winning CV and an attention getting cover letter.

Resume/CV Mistakes
4. Writing a generic CV
Every CV should be tailored to the particular job that you are applying for, rather than creating a CV that is meant to fit all purpose. A CV that is tailored to meet a particular job description will get more attention.

5. Stating unproven claims (things like I was the best marketer in the industry)
When you make claims like; “I became the best marketer in the industry” that are proven can work against you during the interview section. These kinds of statements can raise the employer’s expectations that you might not be able to meet up to during the interview.

6. Being unprofessional with information on your CV (using annoying email address)
Your CV is an official document that should be treated as one. Every information you give on your CV tells a lot about you, you should be careful to give professional information that the employer needs. Giving unprofessional email address like “hotsexybaby@...” may give the wrong impression about you.

7. Creating a very wordy CV
what your CV does basically is to tell your prospective employer that you are the best person for the job. Recruitment officers have loads of CV’s to read, so creating a wordy CV will not help the process at all.

8. Using cliché’s in your summary that don’t relate to the role
Recruiters see thousands of CV’s on a daily basis and they can easily tell when a job-seeker uses a random summary. The summary on your CV should represent who you are and how you are the best fit for the job.

9. Making your CV unnecessarily Scanty
Your CV should be targeted at giving the right information and impression about you. Formatting your CV to show only scanty bullet of your personal and career information is not good enough. Your CV is your marketing tool and as such should be treated as one.

10. Creating a poorly organized CV
How organized or how disorganized your CV is tells so much about your personality. If you have issues formatting your CV, you can seek the help of a CV service for a well formatted CV.

11. Having too many typos in your CV
Having too many typos shows that you are unorganized, careless and that you don’t pay attention to details. To help you eliminate typographical errors on your CV, you should re-read several times to make sure there are no error.

12. Stating an objective at the beginning of your CV
Some hiring manager’s see it as not relevant at all. According to experts, recruiters have approximately 8 minutes to spend on a CV, and you don’t want to spend time with irrelevancies.

13. Adding salary and negotiations to your CV
Adding a salary range to your CV shows that you are not really interested in the in the company or the job, that you are just interested in the money. It can also mar your opportunity of negotiating your salary properly.

14. Adding Images and logos
If you are not applying for a job in the media or an audition, then adding an image or a logo to your CV may not be really necessary. If you are not very good looking adding an image to your CV may be to your own disadvantage.

15. Leaving unexplained gaps in your CV
When you have employment gaps in your CV, you should always explain the gaps and not leave your prospective employer wondering. Leaving unexplained gaps can mean that you were ideal during that period. Employers want hard working and innovative employees.

16. Saving your CV in unsupported formats
You should always save your CV in supported formats that can easily be opened. A CV should be saved in formats like PDF and word document. Using special file format to save your document may not be the best option.

17. Adding reference without request
You should only add reference to your CV if it is requested by the recruiter. Adding a reference to your CV without permission is can make your CV unnecessarily wordy.

18. Writing your CV in third person narration
Writing your CV in third person narration makes it sound objective, more like you are not the one applying for the job. You should avoid using words like; he, she, it, they, him, her, them, his, her, hers, its, their, and theirs. You should rather use words like “I”.

19. Including hobbies and interests that are not related to the job
There is no point for you to include hobbies and interest that doesn’t relate to the job description. You should only add interests and hobbies that will emphasize that you are the best person for the job.

20. Lying about yourself on your CV
Giving the wrong information about yourself on your CV will not land you the job. Since you eventually look forward to getting an interview invite, then you have to give only information that you can defend.

21. Not including important information on your CV
You should never leave out important information on your CV, because that is what the employer will use to contact you. Information like; your telephone number, email address, etc. should not be left out of your CV.

22. Putting incorrect contact information
Before sending out your CV, you should make sure you include all the relevant information on your CV. Putting incorrect contact information, email address etc. may hinder employers from contacting you.

23. Not including keywords
Keywords are the phrases or words used in your CV that the ATS software will pick up. Including keywords in your resume will help it get noticed fast. The keyword you use on your CV should include adjectives like; diligent, hard-working, punctual etc. and verbs like delivered, achieved.

Cover Letter Mistakes
24. Restating your CV/Resume
Your cover letter should not be another copy of your CV. Your cover letter is an opportunity for you to show that you are the best person for the job.

25. Focusing too much on what you want to gain rather than what you want to give when writing your cover letter
When writing your cover letter, you should not write it in a way that it will speak so much of what you want to get from the company rather than what you will bring to the table. Your cover letter should be a summary of what you bring to the table that makes you the best.

26. Grammatical errors
You should always avoid making grammatical errors on your cover letter since your cover letter is your marketing tool. You can use grammarly.com to help you eliminate such errors.

27. Using a generic template message that doesn’t relate to the role
You should be specific when you are tailoring your cover letter to suit a particular role. Using a generic cover letter when applying for a more specific job role is one mistake every job-seeker should avoid.

28. Writing a long cover letter
Your cover letter doesn’t need to be unnecessarily long. It should a have a focus and be straight to the point. You should go ahead and sell yourself in a concise manner when you are writing a cover letter.

29. Focusing more on your soft skill rather than related skills
When you are writing your cover letter, you should focus on adding skills that are related to the job description. Making a list of your soft skills is just making your cover letter unnecessarily wordy and irrelevant.

30. Including unnecessary information
Adding unnecessary information like; your name, educational background etc. when writing your cover letter makes it wordy and irrelevant to the post that you are applying for.

Career / 7 Key Questions You Need To Answer Before Your Job Search by rita1234: 10:27am On Nov 23, 2018

The adage ‘penny wise, pound foolish’ is the case of many job seekers today.

Yes, it is wise to send out CV’s in search for a job, but it is wiser to take your time to prepare before doing that. For example, for a particular role posted on our job site, we have over 950 CVs submitted.

To be sincere, job-search could be a really frustrating process; from the anxiety of preparing for an interview to the uncertainty of getting any job at all.

I know all you want to do as a job-seeker is to just keep sending those CVs after which you hope and pray you to get an invite.

That’s not bad at all, but do you know you can save yourself some amount of job-search stress; make the process less tiring and more productive? I know you are surprised, this is how it works:

When you just hurry into job-search, you will definitely leave yourself open to lots of mistakes that might cost you your dream job or even thwart the effort you have put into the job-search process.

The right approach to searching for a job is knowing exactly what you want. Knowing what you want helps you to be focused, and appropriately position yourself for the right kind of opportunities.

Job-seekers often make lots of mistakes during their job-search that can even cost them the chances of getting a job. Relax, take a deep breath and consider your answers to these 7 key questions before you begin your job search.

1. What job would I like to do?

If you can provide an answer to this question, then you can say that your job-search battle is half won, because your answer to this question will serve as a foundation on which other answers will be built upon.

The major mistake most desperate job-seekers make is not having a choice at all. It is not okay to just be carried away by the fact that you don’t have a job and need one and because of that you just want to apply for any job opening you come across regardless of the field or your interest. You may think your interest doesn’t matter, you just want to work and you can do anything. The truth is that you cannot do anything or better put you cannot be interested in anything.

If you by mistake find yourself in a job that you got with your mindset of ‘I can do anything’, down the line you will definitely find yourself struggling with your job that will even lead to job dissatisfaction at the end of the day, then why get the job in the first place.

We know what it feels to search for a job, but notwithstanding, you need to look beyond the frustration and look at the long-term plan for your career. Just like we said earlier, the job-search process could be easier depending on your approach to it. The key to building a successful career path is knowing what you would love to do, it is fundamental. So before you even start applying for any job at all take out the time to outline what you love to do, this will help you discover your career path.

If you are finding it challenging to answer this question, you can follow the follow these guidelines and ask yourself these questions:

-What is that one thing I can do any day at any time?
-What are the things that I can easily with little or no supervision?
-What do I find interesting?
-What is that one that one thing that I will feel good doing even without being paid?
-What am I passionate about?

These guidelines will help you discover what career path you would love to pursue without necessarily hunting for any job.

2. Am I qualified for the position?

After you must have found out the kind of job that you are passionate about, then this should be next question for you to tackle. It is one thing to love and be passionate about something, and it is another thing to be qualified.

So before you even think of applying for a job online or anywhere, you should be able to access yourself to know if you are even eligible to apply for that job in the first place. ,Usually when a job vacancy is posted it comes together with a job description that states the qualification, experience and all. So when applying for a job don’t ignore the job description and send your CV regardless, make sure you pay attention to details to see if you fit in or not. There is no need applying for a job that you know you are not qualified for because that could be a total waste of time.

If you are passionate about a particular job field and you find out that you are mostly not qualified for the jobs openings you see, it is not a time for you to feel bad about it, but it is time for you to either work towards becoming more qualified or search for other job opportunities that don’t require that level of qualification. You can look at getting the following jobs if you are fresh graduate seeking to build a career path:

-Be on the lookout for volunteering jobs b. Search and apply for internship opportunities
-Search and apply for entry-level jobs

The qualifications required to get this kind of job is usually basic and they are quite accessible than other kinds of jobs.

3. Can my CV get me an interview invite?

The answer to this question can determine to a large extent if you are going to get a job or not. The moment you understand that your CV is your personal branding and marketing tool that is the moment you really start searching for a job. You should be able to look at your CV and admit that you just don’t have a CV for the sake of having it, but you have a CV because that is what you need to convince the employer that you are the right person for the job.

You really need to be able to believe in your CV, but you can’t believe in your CV if you know that it is not good enough. If you have looked at this question, and have come to the conclusion that your CV cannot get you an interview invite, then the right thing to do is not to feel down about it, but it is for you to look out for ways to make your CV appealing enough to get you an invite.

Even a professional CV will still require some tweaks here and there to fit into a particular job position. To align your CV to fetch you the job you want you can do the following:

-Take a critical look at the job description for that particular job
-See how the job description matches your skills, qualification, and interest
-Make sure you infuse some keywords used in the job description into your CV for that particular position.
-Follow up on the latest CV formats and adopt the one that best suits the job you are applying for.
-Use a CV rewrite service

4. How prepared am I for the interview?

Rather than going for an interview because you have an interview invite, consider going with the mindset that you are going to let the employer believe in what you have to offer the company. You should be prepared to get hired even from your interview preparation process.

Your going for an interview should be purpose driven at all times. Instead of just going and standing the chance of not getting the job, it is better for you to prepare for your interview. Since you know that this is the opportunity you have to land your dream job, then you should be ready to take advantage of the opportunity by preparing for the interview.

Preparing for an interview before the day of the interview will help you gain confidence that will even help your performance during the interview. You can prepare for an interview by doing the following things:

-Research for top interview questions and answers
-Use a job interview checklist to test your level of preparedness
-Research job interview do’s and don’ts to make sure you are on track
-Research the job role and the company

5. How can I fit into the new work culture and environment?

It is important for you to understand that getting a job is one thing and thriving and remaining productive within a work environment is another thing. You need to look at the work culture and environment of the company you would want to work for and see how well your personality fits into the culture and environment.

You should be able to know if you enjoy working in a smaller organization or a larger one. Would you thrive or get stressed out working in a high-tasking and pressured environment? Would you like to take a job that gives you the opportunity to interface with customers or would you like to work interfacing your work tools alone? These questions are important to help you find out the best kind of environment you can be most productive in.

You should also take your working style into consideration when searching for a job. Examine yourself to know if you can work in a team or if you would rather prefer to spend long hours working on your own. These things are very important because they have a way of affecting your productivity and your general mindset towards the job.

6. What can I offer?
This is one question that you will have to answer at one point or the other during your career journey. The moment you can identify the unique thing that you bring to the table that is when you start becoming confident about your relevance to a particular company. Before you even apply to a particular company, you should take your time to research about the company’s goal, vision and even their areas of weakness, then you can figure out what you can offer the organization to achieve its goal.

Instead of merely listing virtues in your CV like; result oriented, hardworking, team player, and so on which anyone can do, you should rather think and focus on some more tangible values that you add to the company like; letting your employer know some instances where you showed great qualities, and what sets you apart from other candidates applying for the same position.

7. What do I aim at achieving in years to come?

You should decide on your reason for applying for a particular job even if you have not gotten the job yet. You should also be able to understand your purpose and why you will wish to work in a particular place. Career / Five Tips To Managing Work Stress In Nigeria by rita1234: 2:07pm On Oct 16, 2018
You are stressed! I am sure you will be totally perplexed if I tell you this to your face because you would probably wonder what could prompt me to make such a conclusive statement. The truth is working in Nigeria is associated with stress. According to a study carried out by Bloomberg, the result revealed life as toughest in Nigeria.

A report from the News Agency of Nigeria stated that about 7 million Nigerians suffer stress and depression. You may wonder how true this is, then let’s figure it out! Our buses hurry out of their shades in early hours to meet the myriads of people who lazy out of their beds because of the persistence of their dreaded alarms. We wake long before the cock crows and sleep just before we pass out. How possibly can anyone doubt this? The rate of job pay in comparison to the job done is low. Only a few Nigerians even know their worth based on the work they do.

‘All work without play makes Jack a dull boy’ hardly works in Nigeria because we work so hard and still remain so smart. So smart that we think we can outsmart stress by getting the best jobs. However, stress is not a norm: it leads to depression and reduces the life expectancy ratio. I am sure that by now you won’t blame me for the first sentence I made. Don’t get me wrong, you are not supposed to panic if you are stressed and that is because we’ve got you covered. In this article, we will discuss 5 simple tips on how to manage work stress and still remain very productive in Nigeria.
What is Work Stress All about?

Many Nigerians often confuse stress with a challenge, but they are two different things. A challenge occurs when you are faced with a problem that when solved will ultimately increase your knowledge capacity and problem-solving skills.

On the other hand, work stress is the stress that is often generated from work. Many times work stress is generated from unexpected pressures and responsibilities that are not in correspondence with the person’s knowledge, skills, or expectations that reduces one’s ability to cope. Work stress can lead to deteriorated health and decreased productivity.

5 Tips to Managing Job Stress in Nigeria;

1. Schedule Your Day for Energy and Productivity

One of the most effective ways you can manage stress is to schedule your day and not merely jumping and shuffling tasks as they come. Properly planning your day to include launch times and time for work is a good way to reduce stress to the barest minimum. Most people think that working all through from 9 – 5 is the way to go about planning your day. It would surprise you to know that the more hours you spend working the less productive you would become and the more stressed you would be.

Taking out time to go for lunch or even taking a walk around will help you regain lost energy and increase productivity. When you plan your schedules at the beginning of the day that is when you can actually fix the time for lunch and relaxation. Failure to properly plan your activities for the day will leave you chocked with tons of task that you will hardly have any time for relaxation at all.

2. Eliminate Interruptions

Many Nigerians are faced with the self-imposed stress that comes as a result of a very high level of interruption. A large number of workers in Nigeria are really distracted by themselves or entertain distractions or interruption from other people. The more you engage in irrelevant activities that would distract you or entertain any form of distraction from other people the more you pill your task and other relevant things you have to do.

To reduce and manage work stress, learn to focus on your task for the day and other activities that will help you relax and regain the energy that you must have a loss in the course of your work. Many workers in Nigeria spend their time chatting or doing things that are exhausting and at the end will find it difficult to complete their task for the day. Pushing all your task to the end of the day before completing them can put you under unnecessary stress that you would have avoided at the beginning of the day.

The less interrupted you are, the more relaxed and productive you would be.

3. Learn to Delegate Duties and Seek Help

Managers and supervisors find it really difficult to trust their subordinate enough to delegate responsibilities to them. A good number of managers would rather burden themselves with all the task when they can delegate these responsibilities to someone else. Not assigning responsibilities will leave you with a heavy task weight that will result to stress in the long run.

You achieve greater results when you assign duties to other people because you would be left with more energy to supervise and manage them, and their collective effort will definitely increase productivity.

As our definition states; work stress comes as a result of pressure that people face in their jobs. To reduce the rate of unexpected responsibilities and pressure that may come from the job, it is important for you to reach out to others when you are faced with any form of difficulty in your work before it generates to stress.

A good way to reduce stress at work is by delegating duties, and also seeking help when needed in order to avoid frustration and depression.

4. Avoid Unnecessary Reactions and Concentrate on Positive Actions

It is quite easy for us to react to situations that pose any form of challenge to us at all. The funny thing is that when we react to these kinds of situations it will pose some form of stress on you. Our reactions to a particular situation can affect and blow up the whole situation beyond the limit.

Often times, when people are faced with different forms of challenges or situations at work they simply feel that the situation is out of control, and the moment you start feeling that way, that is when your reaction will begin to stress you beyond the situation. The best approach to take when dealing with your actions in a particularly challenging situation is watching out for your response to the situation. You can avoid reacting negatively in a challenging situation with these tips;

Identify that a challenge is a challenge when faced with one; this will help you accept the reality and look for ways to tackle the challenge
Point out aspects of the challenge that you fix; this gives you a sense of confidence that everything is in control and that you can fix it.
Identify aspects of the situation that you cannot fix; sometimes this is one of the most challenging parts, but identifying them can sometimes even help you realize that the problem is not huge as it seemed. You can also seek help from your colleagues that you know can help you with solving the problem.

5. Prioritize your task

As important as planning your schedule is, it is also very important for you to prioritize your task for the day because it keeps you organized. For many people that work under the supervision of a manager or a supervisor, it is advisable for you to prioritize your task in order of importance.

When you arrange and organize your task for the day in order of importance from the greatest to the smallest it will help you avoid the anxiety that can lead to stress at the end of the day. Once you start performing your task for the day starting from the least important to the most important, you will end up putting yourself under the pressure to finish your task for the day because you would have to send your report to your superior.

Always prioritize your task in descending order to avoid becoming stressed at work.

Note

If you are already so stressed out at work and look forward to seeing how you can stop being stressed rather than avoiding it, then I am sure these steps would help stop the stress;

a. Take a deep breath and slow down with whatever you are doing
b. Stop worrying about things that you can’t do or things you are trying to do. Calm down and concentrate on how to figure it out.
c. Tell yourself that nothing is worth being stressed about, this will help you stay calm while looking for the solution.
d. If you have become really stressed, you can take a time off to do a meditation or an exercise. This will distract you from the present worry, give you time to relax, and help you address the stress with a better approach.
e. Taking out time to pray about the situation stressing you out could be relieving, helpful, and reassuring as well.

Conclusion

The truth about working in Nigeria is that it is packed with stress, and being a developing country it is quite difficult for you to totally eliminate factors like traffic, health care availability amongst other factors that can result in stress. So the best approach to dealing with stress in Nigeria is to look out for means to manage and reduce it.

If you have tried all the suggestions above and still feel stressed at work, they may be it is time for you to think of a career change or better still look for jobs in your most preferred location to avoid being stressed.
